POE is just a freemium game. The amount of different currencies and things you need to upgrade is like a mobile game. And endgame doesn't really support creativity either, since most people will follow a cookie cutter build just like d4. If you don't follow a prebuild you'll get your ass kicked until you submit in the long run.

On the inventory, it is still the same inventory from POE1. You'll see it if you start playing.
The unidentified itens have a proper use, besides tentalizing you with what it could be. In POE1, you can sell combinations of itens to the npcs to get specific usable itens in return, so you could for example sell an item with 3 sockets of each color connected and the npc would give you a stone that randonly changes the color of the sockets in an item. With unidentified itens you can gather a set of chest, boots, gloves, helmet, belt, rings and necklace and sell it to the npc for a Chaos Orbs, which randonly changes the atributes of an item and that the players use as currency.
POE2 is just becoming its own separate game, because the design choices for the combat wouldn't mix with POE1, but the decade plus learning experience with player feedback is added in full in POE2.

I strongly reccommend watching (and maybe reacting to) the full keynote presentation which starts about 2 hours into the Exilecon 2023 day 1 livestream, because this playthrough video has been sanitized for standalone consumption. You'll get a truckload more information about both PoE2 and PoE1, and a lot more insight into the mindset & attitude of the devs, as well as the dynamic between them and the community.
If what you see has you interested, I strongly reccommend catching a ride on the upcoming league for PoE1, as opposed to waiting until PoE2 comes out. PoE has a metric f**kton of content, and most of it will be ported over to PoE2 in some fashion. If you try to dive into PoE2 headfirst without any PoE background, I suspect you'll feel like you're lost in the Library of Alexandria...though you'll probably feel like that in PoE1 anyways.

They could at least hide the furthest 2/3s of the tree at first and have an option in the settings or even in the corner of the skill tree to reveal it all if players want, best of both worlds.

I think they should have an option when they log in new player or returning/veteran players and in the new player experience is different with more tutorials and more in depth with skill gems etc.
I doubt a new player uses pob but if they do they shouldn’t have any issues looking at the tree which is again where 99% of new players quit. Then a new player looking at ssf and ruthless its like what are those especially if they come from diablo or torchlight etc

For the skill trees, they should just lock it down to the area you're in, like the first 5-10 levels you only have a single branching path to follow anyway, so you don't need to see the entire tree, then at level 10 expand the view to the next 10-20 nodes, then the entire tree.

PoE can indeed be intimidating for new players, and the fact that in the early game, rerolling is quite expensive, was a drag for me on my D3 years, aside from the fact that my PC couldn't handle it haha But I went for it this last league while waiting for D4 and now I'm 100% sure it's worth it and it's the far superior competitor. The end game is incredible and the leveling/building/theorycrafting is amazing once you start understanding the mechanics!

So little innovation in the genre. I've only looked at Poe in the last couple weeks because of my disappointment with D4. It's certainly not perfect either, but there's so much new to learn, I can see how it would keep people entertained for years. Can't wait until Poe2 drops. It takes ARPGs to a whole new level.

There are a LOT of differences between POE and POE2, so if you decide to go try POE now, you should check out some vids on basic mechanics like skill gems, gear, passives, currency, crafting, etc. and once you get to end game it's another whole new ballgame. I hope you try it out. One last thing. POE vets always say "You're first build will always suck." So, best to treat it like a really long tutorial and experiment, and then reroll once you think you have a handle on it.

You put those maps into map-device to open em up, there is a LOT of different maps. They go from tier 1 to 16 and you can make them even more challegning (and also rewarding) by crafting them with crafting currency before you start them. all that is a tip of an iceberg, there is MUCH more to it. POE is a GREAT game. BTW The Atlas of maps has it's OWN HUGE skill tree that you can use to increase your farming strategy. IT'S LIT! (Cull means kill, If you have cull below a certain health pool, you can insta kill the target, also applies to bosses, btw)

Cull is terminology, like the one found on Culling Strike support gem, that is essentially an execute. If a monster (including bosses) is below a certain health threshold (typically 10% of their life or lower) a hit will "cull" the enemy, killing them instantly. Some builds run a cull setup where they take a skill and support it with culling strike support. Their main skill does all the damage but when the boss is low, this cull setup skill will execute the boss.
The buff on the top left is the counter for power charges. There are many ways to generate power charges- in the video, he used killing palm which has some kind of power charge on kill (more specifically on cull) mechanic. In PoE 1 power charges give 50% increased critical strike chance per power charge. Some skills expend charges to deal extra damage or different effects (in POE 1 there's Discharge) and PoE 2 there's this new skill.

    28:00
note that they never said that comet cost a lot of mana instead they say that the cast time is long so it takes "long" to cast though it is still quite fast
28:20 spirit is a mechanic introduced in poe 2 bcz in poe one there are several, and i mean a LOT of passive buff skills and auras, those are skills that work by locking your mana(they reduce your max mana to activate), those buffs are normally pretty strong so most builds lock 80~95% of their mana pool with a slither of mana left, enough to cast the class main dmg skill, and every class plays like that.
Most builds juggle that amount of sealed mana and keep enough unsealed to cast their main spells, this doesn't really make classes slow, since you have close to infinite mana regen anyways, it only matters if you seal too much and can't cast your skills bcz your max mana is not enough to cast.
Spirit is a new resource pool with the only job of being sealed in order for you to activate those passive buffs, it is kinda dumb to make a 2nd resource wich only job is to be sealed for those passive buffs BUT it is still an improvement over the old mechanic of sealing mana, at least the devs recognized the problem of optimal play for all classes was to seal the maximum amount you could just bcz those buffs were so good

Not sure if you picked up on it in the presentation, but the core of PoE with the skill gems lets you use ANY skill on ANY class. You can be a Cyclone (Whirlwind) Witch or a Fireball Marauder if you really want to, you just need the right attributes. No singular cookie cutter build for the class like Diablo. The passive tree is shared between all classes, they just start at different sections. And later on there are smaller trees (Ascendency) tied specifically to your class to help you specialize in up to 1 of 3 sub-classes per class.

Cull is a PoE skill that executes any monster including bosses once they hit I think 10% HP. On the PoE passive Tree, Diablo 4 basically took PoE's skill tree and took out all the lines that connect the nodes and put them on a grid with shapes. If you look at the Skill tree as = Paragon board you will have a basic idea of what the nodes do. PoE does have some Cool Down's, but they are generally 1-3 seconds long, some special like summoning a golem for instance can have more like a 4 second cool down.

Go in without a build for your first character in poe, just pick one damage type like fire, cold, physical or whatever and try scaling that. Should help w getting overwhelmed from trying to follow a build guide, lets you focus on the core mechanics like skill gems, links, auras, etc. Plus most build guides have you lvl w different skills and switches to the actual build around mid game. For the passives tree use search bar for your dmg type and life nodes then fill in what you need like life/mana leech, or whats on the same path to dmg. Resistances are mandatory and certain acts have more of one dmg type then others like act 1 has a lot of cold dmg so switching gear for certain bosses/areas can help. You will eventually hit a wall where the cost to respec is more then just starting over then follow a build.

If you do start playing POE, and I do HIGHLY recommend it, find a build guide and choose a SIMPLE build. Whether it's a minion build, Righteous Fire, some of the bow builds, Totems, or whatever, make sure it's something that isn't overly complicated for your first character and attempt.
Also, don't let the passive tree overwhelm you. The reality of the passive tree is it's both far simpler and complicated than it looks. For example, if you do a minion build, the safe thing is to get life nodes and as many minion nodes as you can, and with the search function you can find them easily. Conversely, if you are doing a Fireball build, you don't need to worry about melee damage, cold damage, or whatever else, and that massively reduces the nodes you ACTUALLY need to take.
If/When you get to endgame, don't let the Atlas Passive tree overwhelm you. Each cluster and node exists so you can CHOOSE what content out of the many different endgame systems you want to engage with. Once you've experienced a little bit and find the ones you like, focus on those and you'll be totally fine. Again, it looks complicated but the Atlas tree truly is vastly more simple than it appears.
There are a LOT of builds that are friendly for new players, and some of them have such an insane following that people have created dedicated websites for specific builds each league, like Righteous Fire.
Finally, always remember that in POE, uniques are NOT always better than rares, and there are VERY few uniques that are superior to a rare alternative. Unlike Diablo, don't worry if your gear is made up of all yellow items, those genuinely can be the best out there. Don't worry about figuring out crafting, I'm 4000 hours deep and still don't fully get it.
