Congratulations to the singers and band for an incredible performance!
The thing that I find the most touching about the whole Space Battleship Yamato story is that, at least from my American point of view, the fighting spirit of the Japanese people was so fierce in the 20th century wars, and the Yamato a symbol of might and terror to Japan's enemies. In this story, the Yamato is resurrected and the fighting spirit of Japan goes on a well-nigh suicidal mission against tyranny and oppression and becomes a symbol of hope and salvation for the whole world. There is love still in the world, and it is to be found in all nations. This is a great story, I wish it was more popular in the West.

This harks back to an era where even a children's cartoon series had very professionally written music. Three of the scores are particularly spectacular:- 1. Infinite Universe -- this performance leads with it. 2. Space Battleship Yamato (Theme) -- This performance anchors with it 3. Scarlet Scarf -- not here but arguably the most memorable song of the series. -- BTW, there's a remake of the series called Yamato 2199 with modern anime graphics... IMHO, it's better than the original although slightly different in the ending (no spoilers here; go watch it if you want to know the difference).
Dwight Looi, I love "Scarlet Scarf", too. Ryoji Kawakami (the main male vocalist on this video) sometimes performs it (Click the link below). ruclips.net/video/ThTVSTUA3fo/видео.html I've not had any chance to watch new series by now, so thank you for refraining from being spoiler(^ ^)
@@retcapt Regardless, Japan needs to drop the JMSDF bullshit. With 22 submarines, 7 AEGIS DDs, 31 other DDs, 4 flattops and a bunch of other ships she is the 3rd largest Navy in the world. It's time to call it what it is... Nihon Kaigun (日本海军). Looking forward to the first fixed wing carrier sometime in the late 2020s -- maybe it'll be two ships called the YAMATO and the FUSO named after... well... historical Japan.
@@dwightlooi Well, she's a navy from every point of view. Regardless of the name, the essence of the Maritime Self-Defense Force has been gradually approaching the Navy. It is the Japanese Constitution that has hindered its progress and will hinder it in the final stage, unless it won't be changed. I personally think that a constitutional revision in line with the times is necessary. And now I think it is high time to do it.

Holy shit. I just noticed that the vocal group is the same as the video where a smaller orchestra of the JMSDF (then wearing their white uniforms) did the same medley. Looks like the main vocal guy dot a promotion since then.
Always remember that this whole series is based off of the sacrifice of the actual ship Yamato and her crew during the world War. I believe not a single sailor refused to go on the last and ultimately futile mission. They went down fighting to the very end against overwhelming odds and as heroes to their country and it's people. May we never have that ever happen again.
Dennis Swartz, thank you for your message! Yamato in the real world fought her last battle in a operation with no value in military sense and was sunk deep in the ocean with its numerous crews. Although some say they died in vain, I suppose not. The desperate battle symbolized the termination of the Imperial Navy of course and at the same time impressed the world the indomitable spirit of Japanese at national crisis. It can be said that it was truly a tragedy, but I believe that the impression it left on the world has protected post worldwarⅡ Japan and the Japanese spirit (Yamato spirit) itself. Therefore I admire their ultimate devotion and also think we must pay every effort to avoid another desperate tragedy. Thanks again(╹◡╹)
RocketGuardian, thank you for leaving your message! "They are not just ships", that's for me, too. I really can say that I could feel something valuable from them.

When I was young I liked to see this movie very much, with love from Thailand.
I can still sing the English version Starblazers up to this day.
I wasn't aware the original Japanese version until 2019 remake
emancoy, thank you for your message! I'm afraid many Japanese don't know the English version of Star Blazers. Could you tell me the lyrics?
@@retcapt We’re off to outer space
We’re leaving mother Earth
To save, the human race
Our Star Blazers
Searching for a distant star
Heading off to Iscandar
Leaving all we love behind
Who knows what dangers we’ll find
We must be strong and brave
Our home we have to save
If we don’t in just one year
Mother Earth will disappear
Fighting with the Gamalons
We won’t stop until we’ve won
Then we’ll return and when we arrive
The Earth will survive with our Star Blazers

Xanthegreat4 ah! I really understand your feelings on this masterpiece!
"Uchuu Senkan Yamato" made me decide to become a naval officer to defend my homeland Japan(╹◡╹)
MOST IMPRESSIVE! AWESOME!!! The Japanese.Navy did a.wonderful job!
This is great, all the best from Poland.
This harks back to an era where even a children's cartoon series had very professionally written music. Three of the scores are particularly spectacular:-
1. Infinite Universe -- this performance leads with it.
2. Space Battleship Yamato (Theme) -- This performance anchors with it
3. Scarlet Scarf -- not here but arguably the most memorable song of the series.
--
BTW, there's a remake of the series called Yamato 2199 with modern anime graphics...

2:06 We are here for this.
