New sub here , over from Nomadic Fanatic and Jax man. Firstly, I’m so sorry about your fur baby. I watched one of your other videos before this one ( 10 things we learned..) and I saw her in that one. Little cutie pie. I remember when one of our dogs died I couldn’t get out of the bed for 2 days. I was broken-hearted. 💔. Secondly, enjoyed your video and looking forward to following you.
Thanks so much for coming by. We loved meeting Eric and Jax. Super cool guy. The loss of pet is always hard. We left our campground early because I just couldn’t walk Scrappy their where Chewie used to walk. We really appreciate your words. I think it’s harder because this is our first pet loss as full timers and we spent so much more time with her. And now I’m glad we did. Enjoy each day, Alice
Dang guys. I had tears when Alice said y’all lost one of your pets. We had two dachshund and we lost one last year. She loved camping and riding the pontoon boat. Love to y’all Almost had tears when I saw how much y’all spent on living full time. I will just be a weekend warrior.🤣 Thanks for sharing
Steve, fellow dog owners definitely understand. You can see why we didn’t say anything before. It still hurts. The money? To each his own. Not everyone stays where we stay or lives like we do. Someone told me their campground budget was $1,500 🤣 Thanks again for your words, Alice
Robbie, awesome. It was great meeting Eric and playing with Jax. We are a totally different kind of channel. I hope you find something interesting on our channel, Alice
That is pretty good for dining out! We hope to eat more at home and less out! That is a good goal to strive towards! That is not bad for entertainment for a whole year! We think that is pretty good! We like souvenirs and we like the magnet idea! Also maybe a T-shirt every once in a while from a really cool place! We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Chewy! We lost an older dog a few months ago and he had a lot of medical expenses too! Fur babies are such a huge part of our lives and it hurts so bad when they pass! Thanks for sharing y'all's costs! It was a very helpful video! ~ Shion and Matthew
We used to dine out more. Maybe when things get back to normal, we may go out more. Again, we used to spend more on movies but not for a long time. But we do like to hike, bike, canoe etc. Magnets are great because they are small, lightweight, and pretty inexpensive. I’m trying to only buy from National Parks or a super special place- replacing some other shirts I already have. Losing Chewie was the hardest thing we have done. I think this loss is harder because we spent more time with her as full timers. We really appreciate your words. Thank you, Alice
This is exactly why we do these. We researched for years but until you are really doing it, you don’t see the actual costs. Part of it is the strange times we are in. Some things would have been cheaper. Alice
Great Video and very useful information. I would suggest that you need to budget more for RV maintenance and repairs. You will have more "one time" costs as you continue to improve and upgrade your RV. It's a never ending process (and money pit). LOL
My wife and I just discovered your channel this weekend and are enjoying all the content you have provided. We are thinking of doing exactly what you are living today in 4 or 5 years. We've started a book to start making notes and planning for our big moment. Your experiences are so informative, and we thank you so much for the details. You two are so awesome!! Thank you!!
Planning is the key, we started planning in 2018, tons of notes, and spreadsheets. 4-5 years will give you lots of time to have a successful full time launch, good luck. Larry
Internet is definitely an issue for many now. Larry plans on making a video about our new system. It wasn’t cheap, but so far it works better than others. But there’s no guarantee. Good luck, Alice
Pepper, I agree. I just feel we need that safety net, but Larry doesn’t have an income to protect anymore. I guess he feels he’s not worth the money anymore 😂 Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents I think the life insurance would protect you if something happens to Larry. Assuming at that point in your life you would not continue the same life style and may have to go back to sticks and bricks quickly.
Love watching you guys! I am 56 and about to pull the pin as well. We will not be full time but intend to do at least 4 months a year out and about. Your videos are awesome. Just watching your annual spend one and I had to laugh. You can never take the Canada out of a Canadian! How I can tell is that your holding your papers on a hockey practice whiteboard eh!
Scott, 😂 You are so right. Even though we were in Florida, both our kids played roller hockey and one played travel ice hockey, eh! 🤣 4 months sounds like a great plan. We just didn’t have a way to keep a large home and travel. Good luck to you guys. Glad you enjoyed our silliness. And remember, sharing is caring- share our video to like minded folks 😉 Alice
So sorry to hear about your puppy (I call every dog we owned our puppy). Thank you so much for the informative video and providing personal information about your expenses. We started full timing about the same time and it is nice to hear others full time RVer's stories. We are in Michigan this winter (Brrrrr) because our grandsons who have special needs are doing school virtually and this is too much for our daughter to do alone. We have learned so much about extreme cold weather camping. Hope to be back in the desert in Arizona this next winter boondocking like we did in January/February 2020 for about a month. We fell in love with the desert and it was great. You may find out you love the desert too.
Donna, thank you and we appreciate the understanding from other dog owners. We called them our pups too. It’s been a tough year. I’m glad you can help with your grandsons. We hope to check out the desert some day. Keep warm, Alice
Richard, thank you for understanding. We have lost dogs in the past. But living full time in an RV seemed to make the loss so much harder. I’m so glad we still have Scrappy. 🐾 ❤️ Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Rub Scrappy's belly for me and give him/her a kiss for me from Jacksonville. BTW, been following you guys for a while. I am retired military and my wife retired from her job yesterday after 26 years (insurance adjuster). I cried with her when she boxed up her computer and work phone to mail back to the company. Like loosing a family member. It was part of a plan hatched about 3 years ago to pay off home, get rid of debt, semi-retire, and move back home to Delaware to be close to family. We sold our home and close on 3 March (fingers crossed). We are in our mid 50s and look forward to finding a small, manageable home close to family, and purchase a small RV. We want to take week long trips exploring Virginia and the Civil War sites. Thought about going full time but we both believe we need a small home base. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey. Enjoy your vids. Congratulations for living a dream very few folks can achieve.
Richard, it does help to still have Scrappy. It seems we have a lot in common. It was really hard for him to quit. Felt weird. One of the things we were supposed to do while traveling was look for a possible hone base. We are still looking. That’s why we are keeping some stuff in storage. We will probably end up doing long trips and having a hone base. Thank you so much for your understanding. And good luck with all the big changes you are going through, Alice
REALLY great video, guys. You are the 1st RUclipsrs hubby and I found as we started researching FTRVing - we’re planning to sell our house and get on the road FT late spring. So sorry to hear about Chewy - I could hear how hard that was and you were brave to talk about it on video. It made me cry 😢 Hope to see you out there one day!
Ronda, I hope we continue to provide useful info about this lifestyle. Good luck with the house sale. And thank you about Chewie. When you live full time with a dog, it really adds to the loss. I tried not to cry, but it still hurts. Thank you. We hope to see you, too, Alice
Thank you for sharing! My wife and I are a couple years out from hitting the road and seeing what others are spending really help fine tune our budget. Your goal of $3800 per month is what our goal is too. Thanks again!
Came from Eric Nomadic Fanatics channel. Love the channel! PS- Ditch the high life insurance, don't need any extra reasons for our wives to kill us off! 😂
I’m glad someone agrees with me, some days I think she will kill me without the insurance incentive! Haha. The insurance was originally purchased to protect our young children, they are grown now. Thanks for coming over, Larry
Sorry to here about your dog. I know how it feels to lose a dog. I list my dog 10 years ago I had to put him down. He had mud to issues. It’s hard. No I’m losing mom to Parkinson’s. Glad to hear that you will be cutting back on more expenses. That’s hard to do too! But when you know it needs to be done it has to be done. I have faith in you both you can do it. Hopefully will power will help. That would be great to do a video on how the internet is and works. Thank you fir this video it will help me to put myself on a budget. It’s hard to do. Thank you for the video stay safe and travel safe. See you soon.
Sherri, losing a dog is hard, especially when you live in an RV full time with them. I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Larry went through something like that with his mom. The stress caused some health issues so make sure to take care of yourself, too. Thanks for being a loyal watcher. We really appreciate it. Take care, Alice
Thanks for this video! Great information. I was surprised at how much you spend on storage. I got everything I wanted to keep to fit in my car when I left Georgia. Now it's in my RV. I left stuff in a very small storage (10X5) for my kids but they picked it up- so I don't have to pay on it anymore.
Oh I wish we could do that. We were in one large house for 23 years and collected heirlooms and antiques from several generations. We are slowly getting it down. Great job downsizing, Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents I had some antiques and still have a few heirlooms and gave some to my kids. I was married 30 years and have five kids. It took me 9 months to sell, donate, give away, throw away and sort out. I couldn't buy my RV until I sold my house, paid off my debts and paid cash for a used RV! I love the info on your channel. ty
I love it. Definitely helps me with my family goals. A lot of people will like this. Others just dont realize how much it costs to own something. Thank you for sharing!
Well done!! I think that $700.00/month for campground fees seems reasonable to me especially if many are in state/provincial parks....which add so much to the overall experience.
Thank you. Yes. I think some people think it’s high compared to RUclipsrs who boondock out west for free. It’s definitely reasonable. Less than our previous mortgage 😂 Alice
Great video! Wow! I SHOULD know what our 2020 costs were, but honestly I'm not 100% sure I WANT to know, lol! I have not been on top of that and I'm sure within the next 2 weeks I'll be having a few panic attacks. So sorry about Chewy! I was ugly crying with you, although you handled it so well on the video hun! Always thinking of you guys! 💕 Definitely don't get rid of the life insurance. - Leanna
Oh and after speaking with several of our clients over the last week, they are so glad they did the solar and lithium install because it saved them during the storms of TX! So, there are so many reasons to do it.
Leanna, I know looking at the numbers is scary- especially if you had a lot of repairs. Thank you so much for all your support through our loss. I’m still tempted to steal your little Mohawk cutie😂. It was hard and still us hard to deal with- especially when we put ourselves out there in the public. The life insurance is still in debate. 🤗 Alice
Thanks for the video!! I really enjoy them! My wife and I are going to go full time too. I smiled when Alice called your truck a big butt truck. We have the same truck, Ram duly, my wife calls it’s wide hips and doesn’t like driving it ether. Looking forward to more of your videos. Cant wait to see your solar install and your internet system. My wife works from home and teaches software applications at a law firm. So we are really interested in a good solid mobile internet. ALL of your video have been point on for us!! We also enjoy state parks too! So please keep doing what your doing!😁
Michael, sounds like we have a lot in common. Tell your wife I park it far away when I drive the truck and I have never towed 😳 Larry needs to do at least part 1 of the solar just showing what we have and how we use it. Connectivity is so important. Yes. That is another video he needs to make. But I think he put links in the description of what he bought. Alice
I agree def keep life insurance, maybe lower the amount. Thanks guys for sharing your 1st year expenses, it was really detailed. I’m like Larry, I count every penny🤪 Yep it frustrates Mike sometimes but in the end he always says he’s glad I do. Soooo sorry about Chewy, I cried right along with you Alice when you told us. Our two fur babies are so special to us too🐶🐶❤️
Lisa, another vote for lowering but keeping insurance 😂. Larry does a great job keeping track and it is helpful. I really did try to do it without crying but there was no way I was going to say it all over again. Thank you for understanding. I’m glad we still have Scrappy, Take care, Alice
Larry has a dry sense of humor. I really chuckled when he said if we cut back on T shirts. A few years ago I got rid of a lot of clothes. I figured I only needed 14 days of each type of clothing as I do laundry.
Sue, he does tease me. Believe me, I got rid of a lot of clothes. Honestly, he bought more shirts than me because he had very few casual shirts. We shall see about my shirts. I do have my own charge card 😂 Alice
Great job on the video. We are going on 6 months full time. Started in September 2020. I am tracking our cost as well. You are correct that the first year has a lot of start up costs. I budget around $3800 per month but only have made that once so far. Also no solar yet...
The solar definitely tipped the scales. But for the lifestyle we want, it’s worth it. We can camp in places others would pass up because it’s no power and stay longer. Thanks for understanding about set up costs. Alice
Nice break down. Curious about what is the value of items in storage. I also think that if people got rid of storage instead of paying they could save that money to buy new items.(value vs storage cost) Of course I know it depends on someone's plan. For example how long it will be until you get a home base. Ps so sorry for the loss of your baby.
Alice and Larry, This video was SO helpful! Thank you so much for all the tips! Alice, what are hiking pins? I need to know more about this :) Another question: How long is are you? We are 32ft and wondering if we can fit in state parks. Bummer about insurance, but it's so important to have. Alice your knee!! Can't wait for Larry's RUclipsr steamer video :) Alice don't look at this next comment please, this is for Larry. Larry If you need to get rid of some of Alice's tee shirts I can send you my address :) She has great taste haha. Loved your video!! Have a great weekend!
Kathy, sorry. You were “unapproved” for some reason 😂 I’m sending you a pic of hiker pins. You definitely need to collect them how much you hike. You can fit 32’ better than our 35’. Life insurance is still in debate. You are the first to notice my knee- biking error 😫 I read the comment for Larry. Maybe I won’t send hiking pin pics 😉 Thanks. Happy Hiking, Alice
I watched a couple of your older videos for the first time yesterday. You guys are great, love the content. I hear you talking about your RA struggles, and that you are gluten free. I would suggest trying Keto/intermittent fasting. It works! do your own research and see. take care, Jim
Hey Jim, thanks for compliment and the tip on keto. I have considered intermittent fasting, my physical therapist recommended it but I haven’t tried it yet. Larry
I did the storage thing at the beginning but with time I couldn't remember most of the stuff I had stored away. Then, I calculated what I was paying for storage and the cost of replacing the items in storage if I went back to a sticks and bricks. And soooo... bye bye storage and saved a lot of money this way. What is wind alert? Great video!
Most of what is in storage is irreplaceable- antiques, family heirlooms, photos. But we are going to get it down to one at least. Wind Alert is an app so he knows wind speed- it’s to know when there is good wind for kite surfing. Alice
Thanks for sharing. We know that finances are personal. The dettails in the description were very cool! The details were nice! We got a qnap as well. We are enjoying it, but we still have a home base. I am curious how you manage the NAS from a trailer. Which video editing software do you use.
I have my Nas connected to a cellular based router connected by 1gb Ethernet through an 8 port switch, works awesome. I am upgrading to a 10gb setup when I upgrade my computer this year, can’t get a ryzen 5950 cpu or an rtx3070 graphics card, all sold out. I use Adobe premiere CC for video editing, I learn something new with each video. Larry
Thank you for doing these types of videos. I really appreciate the details you give. It is very valuable to those of us working to make the transition. Looking forward to Larry’s internet video. Did you do a solar install video? Safe Travels.
Michael, thank you. It’s not a fun video but we think it’s useful. No solar video yet. I keep bugging him about it but other stuff keeps coming up. And we definitely need to do internet. But he wants more time with it for more data. Alice
Bill, it’s the toughest thing we’ve gone through since going full time. It seems harder than when we lost dogs in the past. Thank you for your understanding, Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents We are seriously thinking about going fulltime next February, when I turn 65. I worry about managing things with 3 dogs. They 12, 10 and 5. So I'm not sure how long the oldest one will be with us. I know its coming.
@@billblong6578 Bill, that’s a tough one. All our other dogs are buried on our old property. And when Chewie died, it was the worst. I think because we had so much more time in a small space with her. Just something to consider. Alice
Very interesting to see the breakdowns here. Do you think the costs would come in similar if the RV trip was less permanent, say more of an 18-24 month National Parks trip as opposed to full-time RV living?
Joe, our costs were higher than a lot. Plus we had a lot of one time costs we wouldn’t do if we weren’t full time. But if you aren’t full time, you have to have a place to come back to. Hard to compare
Thank you for sharing this info. My wife and I travel in our rig 3 months or so a year. One of the main reasons we got it was so our two dogs could travel with us. I had to stop the video for a few when Alice started talking about Chewy. Our dogs are family. So sorry for your loss. That seems like a lot of life insurance. You may want to lower the amount or cancel but you need to reflect on what Alice will need going forward.
Thank you for understanding about Chewie. I really tried not I cry. We have lost dogs before, but living full time in an RV with your dog and than losing her is so much harder. I agree about the life insurance- we are still “talking” about that one. Thank you again for your kind words, Alice
I dropped my term insurance at 60. I follow Dave Ramsey teaching. The goal is to be at a place where you are self insuring yourself when you pass. 401k investments and such. I enjoy your channel.
I have had that policy for over 25 years, mostly to protect the kids, they are grown now. I may get a smaller, cheaper policy to replace the 500k policy. Larry
My policy was level term until 60. 500000. At 60 premium went WAY up. Just depends on your full financial picture. You can take your current premium and add to if possible and invest in good growth mutual funds. You are around 57 guessing. Pull up a investment calculator and you can get an idea what your growth would be. 10% is a good rate of return to use in the calculator. Saying all of this, I would keep the term as long as the premium is the same.
Jackie, remember to take the categories that match the lifestyle you want. Some people prefer boondocking out west and spend little money on camping. We would rather not. We want to be in Florida in the winter to be near our kids. Alice
Thanks for all the information, I have and will keep my life insurance at a lower amount as a safety net for my wife. Plus keeping what you have is much cheaper than getting a new policy later due to age and health. If you can even get one.
My husband wants to know when you plan on doing your video on the internet router you mention? We are planning on taking a year off as of July 2022 to travel Canada & the US with our (currently 9 years old) daughter, and the video on how much you spent was really useful as we plan our trip. Thanks for doing this - I would say the investment in RUclips was worth it!
Nicole, funny you should mention that. Our next video is all about our internet. Larry shows everything we used and what we are using now. So tell hubby he better be the first one to comment on Sunday 😂 Alice
I am planning on full time camping also. We are just 4 mo. Away from retirement. I saw your cost for living but what do you have for income coming in. I have a 401k and social security for money, and at least 70,000 in savings. Do you think that this is enough to live comfortably. We only have a cat for a pet. We live pretty comfortably while at a home. I have been watching a lot of you tube for being a nomad. I am still getting our camper ready to be self sufficient as long as I have good income coming in, to up grade our camper. We test all of these upgrades by actually camping, and confirming that they work. Last thing to get is solar. So a lot of the start up expenses will already be done. Just basically how much income do you have every month to maintain your expenses?
We have some savings and some money left from house sale, we need to get our yearly costs under 40k per year to make it 60s when we will start drawing , 401k money. But we will need to bring in 12-20 k a year from work camping, doing some consulting from my old job, or RUclips or a combination of the 3. We will take the next year to figure it out. There are lots of ways to make money on the road if you have a good internet connection. Larry
Video is very helpful. Hoping to go FT in next year or so. Sorry to ask silly question, but what does "hunkerdown" refer to in the camping fees category? Thanks!
When the campgrounds shut down for Covid-19 we had to find a private property to “hunker down” until they opened again. I should have named it differently, good luck with your full time plans. Larry
So you got rid of an appreciating house to buy a depreciating truck/trailer. So where is the money coming from when the truck/trailer needs replaced. Or……when you decide to end full timing and have to put roots down again…..what is the retirement plan?
man, that laundry adds up. I guess one should have a washer/dryer when full timing? Also $400/mo for insurance is no pocket change. As Larry said, live insurance is to protect potential loss of income. Perhaps keep a lower amount (~ $100k) of coverage just to have it?
Hans, you don’t think about laundry until you have to “pay” for it. We don’t want a washer and dryer- too heavy and lose Larry’s closet. That’s why I want a portable to wash a few things and hang dry. We are trying to get in touch with the insurance agent- they don’t call back when you want to lower or get rid of it seems. Thanks for the ideas. Alice
Don't worry Larry I know most of that cost is Alice. lol I think dropping the memberships you don't use is a good idea. We dropped most of them except Escapees. I really like that one. We are going to be staying in one of their parks in a few weeks. When you go to these places you got to see some stuff though. Nothing wrong with enjoying yourselves to a point. We still do this. Larry doing Laundry. First man point lost. Just some to TX we have no propane. That will drop your cost. Great point. Stuff happens in this lifestyle. Just part of it. Yep and Thousand Trails and Encore are going to be much harder in FL now with the new membership. Good luck next year. I think it will be near impossible. I am getting about done with TT. Yes I hope to see that diesel fuel go up. We got to get y'all out of FL more. lol There is so much more to see. FL is great for the winter though. My leas on is learned on that. Alice let take Larry out. I will do it for 5th of that money. lol If you can get that down to 1 unit and not need climate control get a building and put it on the land in TN. Money saved problem solved. We can talk about it when you visit. Y'all are great with your pets. We miss Chewy and love Scrappy. Glad we got to take care of them some. Starlink come on baby. We have really cut back on eating out just because the food sucks most of the time. Would rather eat at home anymore. Yep I love my solar setup. It helps a ton. Congrats on one year. All that money y'all got no budget is needed. We do appreciate the effort though. lol I got me a sugar moma to do whatever I wont. No budget needed. lol Great video y'all.
William, I should heart this comment 😂I thought you were on my side? Actually, Larry spent more than me. We did reup with TT for the travel north and if we get stuck and need a place. They should open up more soon. Hopefully next year it won’t be this busy. Now. We have talked about these man points 😉. Lots of people are saying to keep the life insurance. We shall see. We do want to leave Florida but we are sure glad we are here this winter. But we like being near the kids for the holidays too. I seriously was thinking of putting a shed on your property- that would be awesome. We will talk for sure. It’s still hard to talk about Chewie. We really love that you guys have been there for us. We are planning on hooking up in May. We need a chat. Thanks for everything, Alice
P.S. My husband has celiac disease and has to eat 100% gluten free so I feel your pain there. Eating out is almost impossible so we always stock up on all our gluten free items before we hit the road on our months-long RV trips. BTW, did you know that the cost difference is a tax deduction in our USA income tax system? (Not sure about Canada) Now, you may have a new item to track for your taxes, haha!
Gluten free is expensive. Plus for his RA, we eat less red meat and try to buy organic. I’ll ask about the cost difference. He might like having a whole new column on his spread sheet 😂 Thanks for the tip. Alice
Yeah. The first year full timing is always the most expensive as far as setting up. Other years your biggest expense is Maintenance of your rig and truck.
Exactly- many people don’t seem to get that. Don’t you spend more the first year you get a house? We appreciate hearing from someone who understands. Alice
Good info. I’ve many observations & opinions. Typically in a biz where mobile equipment is concerned you calculate your expenses by translating to a cost per mile or CPM. This CPM becomes your gauge or thermostat fir the past & future. Real expense from past while forecast of future. IMO the perception I have from listening to the words spoken, 3rd person reasoning & body language combined with a forecast of just a $300 per month reduction I’m just not seeing true commitment. Even so, maybe try to run numbers against logged mileages to better understand the true CPM. This can be eye opening & very revealing. $75,000/12,000 miles is $6.25 per mile. Very high. Cheers!
Next 12 months will be very different, we are tightening our belts now that I don’t have an income. No more huge purchases. I will look at the cpm idea in our spreadsheets, Larry
Gary, so you understand. It still hurts. We adopted her when she was six but didn’t find out until later. Maybe she would have lived longer if we got her on medication sooner. We think she was 12. So you must have taken care of your dog to have it live so long. 🐾 ❤️ Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Yes we got him at 6 months He was a pure bred Yorkshire terrier. His passing was only 9 days after we rushed him to the vet. We woke up that morning, and knew something was wrong, and the vet said he was getting fluid in his lungs because he was in heart failure. His passing was one of the hardest things we went thru. Our home is not the same, always seems like there is some thing missing.
Try looking into term life insurance if you need it. For myself I only pay $161 semi annually. Later on we will drop it as I will have enough money to be buried. We have it on both of us.
@@DownsizingMakesCents Alice if you get a price from them, the more ins you add the deeper your discount will be. They have several options for payment that saves money too. We have our vehicles, homeowners, TT (only seasonal), and life ins.
You should look at Visible phone service owned by Verizon. Completely on line phone service but it’s as low as $25 a month unlimited everything including hotspot. Trick is buy an iPhone from them using give a good rebate on them and use it as just a hotspot. I did and my bill is $25 a month and stream the Roku and cheap. Works well!
Marc from Grand Adventure did a very popular video on the Visible plan. We will prob get a phone on that so we have access to the verison network. I can’t believe the plan is that cheap, thanks for sharing. Larry
It was actually a lot more, it is equipment we purchased to make the videos, 4K cameras, 40 tb nas server to store footage, audio recorders, drones, etc. I have listed the major items in the description and how much each cost. We didn’t NEED to buy all this stuff to do a youtube channel, I love learning all this stuff and new technology. We are working hard to make each video better than the last one, and part of that is the quality of the raw video and audio files. Larry
I have a gp7 and gp9 with the media kit. The gp9 with the media kit and built in extra mic is great for general vlogging. We keep ours on a selfie stick thing, that also has a built in mini tripod. Lar
@@DownsizingMakesCents awesome, Im looking at getting the Rode Go mic because Id like a wireless mic so I dont have to yell at the camera when Im not right next to it hah
No - keep life insurance, lessen the payout amount. It's important that if Alice doesn't have a good income, life insurance could pay off any debt and still provide her with an income. So sorry for your loss of Chewy 😥🐾😥 - losing a beloved pet leaves a huge hole in your hearts. Wow, $3,800 - that's a chunk more than my current income.
Ruth, we are still deciding on life insurance. You make a great point. Thank you for your condolences. It is tough, especially when you living with the dog in an RV full time. We have lost dogs before. This was the hardest. We are spending less than we did before we were full time. Like we said in the video, even in the full time lifestyle, there are many ways to live it. In fact, someone told me their camping budgets is almost triple ours. Thank you again for your kind words, Alice
Money spent on storage is wasted $$. Over the year or (years) you can re-buy all that stuff new. Store or save only photos, precious documents, etc. This can be, and should be, at a relatives place for security.
We don’t have a relative that can store the amount of photos we have from generations. We’d like to make them digital. We did some but ran out of time. Alice
That’s easy right now, we have no income except the very small amount that we get from RUclips. We are living on savings right now until we figure out what we want to do when we grow up, haha. Larry
Does you healthcare budget cover just ACA premiums or total out of pocket including deductible and copayment? I ask as we are maxing out out HSA account for the next 10 years to cover deductible and insurance cost during early retirement.
Yes, there is no way we could afford the insurance through the ACA without the subsidies. Our income now is very low now that i quit my job, so we qualify. If we make more money that the ACA allows we would have to pay back part of the subsidy after we do our taxes next year. Larry.
You have me worried that I don’t have enough income to live full time in my RV! I am disabled and living on my SSI, but it’s just me and my 2 cats. I don’t have the memberships that you do for discount camping. Also, I recommend maybe reducing your life insurance, not dropping it altogether.
Cindy, there are people that live more cheaply, but boondocking is the cheapest and not much here in Florida where we want to be holidays near our kids. Plus we spent a lot on set up costs. And there are two of us. We are still deciding on the life insurance. Thanks for coming by. I hope you find a way if that what you want. First, start keeping track of what you spend every month. Count every penny. Good luck, Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents - I do count pennies. I am supporting a teenager right now in a house, but will be sending her off to college and going full time after she graduates. It’s so hard to know what expenses to anticipate in a new life.
That is true, especially when it will go down to one. Maybe until she leaves, pay for items for your separately. At least you will know that budget. Alice
David, the cost is all the video gear really. I do think some of it is listed in the description. Go pros, audio, etc. Good question. Hopefully nothing will break again and need replacing, Alice
I have been using quicken for over 20 years, every penny we spend goes into the program. It’s easy once you get all your accounts set up to download into the program. Most banks and credit cards allow for quicken download these days. There is a learning curve but it’s not too bad. It’s the best way to really keep track of what you are spending, and how your savings and investments are growing. Also helps identify places where you can cut costs by running reports. Highly recommend. Larry
Wow 1g a month on FOOD!!! I used to take a lot of vitamins every day; but lately im convinced I could replace them all with tumeric and vitamin C. Losing a pet is heartrending; 1.3 yrs ago i lost my 11 yr old doberman girl, I completely lost it. Cant wait to see her again at the Pearly Gates!! Invest in a spinner twin tub washer; u can get them on amazon; I had one for years, very reliable and easy to use and store away. Most rvers store and use them in the shower stall; u can get a portable vertical air dryer rack for about $100 on amazon, one is called dry buddy; has an air fan on the bottom and a cover over the rack; u hang the clothes inside on its arms, low wattage and very effective dryer.
Lauren, Larry has to buy expensive food due to some health issues. Thank you for your condolences- you know how hard it is to lose a pet We are looking into portable washers. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll be looking at those. Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents might i ask what type of food he consumes ? as RA is an inflammatory condition; i find that when i eat wheat and sugar my joints ache and swell up. so i generally avoid them and have almost no dairy or meat as they are acidic/mucus forming. i take tumeric 2x a day in juice or smoothies and have chopped onions for lunch n dinner every day. wonderful stuff!!
@@DownsizingMakesCents I also avoid gluten as much as possible; but I have definitely noticed that since Ive gone to tumeric 2x a day; a large dose of Vit C (several grams) and knox gelatin 2x a day, my gluten intolerance has almost disappeared! i use stevia instead of sugar; works great in smoothies and tea. I dont drink coffee its too damaging. I use potatoes and gf pasta.

Brenda, thank you. I know how you feel. We actually left the campground that was basically free to go somewhere that would than cost extra. I just had to leave. Alice
Brad, we do have savings. Larry thinks it’s enough for me for sure. It just makes me nervous not to have any insurance on him. Plus, I could just camp with you guys 😂 Thanks for the thoughts, Alice
Angel, which number? We go through every category. Many people spend less. And many spend more. It’s up to each individual to figure out what will make them happy. However, most people realize the first year is more expensive. Alice
Please help me-I really like the videos you do on campgrounds showing site by site, however I was attracted by your channel name. Yes I do understand as Alice replied to a viewer-”to each their own”. With all due respect, this leaves me in a conundrum-maybe the name of your channel should have been “Let's speed it all” or “Like drunken sailors” with love James. P.s. When my dog died in spite of an operation to save her, I came home from work thinking to hold her and give her some comfort, but alas; she had died in my wife's arms at the vet's. A powerful grief overcame me like no other in my life.
James, I am so sorry for your loss. We obviously understand how much losing a fur baby can hurt. But I’m confused by the rest of your comment? We did downsize from a large brick home, with acreage, a pool, several cars, a boat, and many other “big boy toys.” No, we don’t live in a van, but we do want to downsize our RV. We had a 5 year plan, but because of Larry’s health issues, we did speed it up to a year. We may spend more than others but we spend less and own less than we did. I’m not sure if I answered your question. You wrote “please help me”. Perhaps if you explained more? Take care, our thoughts are with you, Alice
We never had life insurance an Alice, while Alice raising kids I was bringing in more income. We will be living off of savings and investments until we start making the big bucks from RUclips, haha. When we hit 60 we can start drawing some income from 401k, iras. Larry
Your life insurance is a instant estate that will allow a tax free inheritance for either each of you or for your children. It does not go through probate courts. The age you bought it was the cheapest age it will ever be because the cost goes up drastically as you get older and you can never go back to that age once it is gone. You both should have policies while you are in good health. As a retired insurance agent (who also loves to RV), I've never met a senior citizen in their advanced age that they don't regret canceling their life insurance. They always say that they wish they had kept it. Keep it. As you get older, you will see the value in it. Happy trails!
Thank you. I’m definitely telling Larry this. He hasn’t talked to his agent yet, but I’m going to tell him what you said. I really appreciate advice from someone who knows Alice
KEEP the life insurance! You may go a tad lower on coverage and shop around, BUT KEEP some coverage. So very sorry to hear about your loss of Chewy. Having a budget takes commitment to keep track of everything~ Brad and Diana
Thanks. Another vote for keeping the insurance. I obviously am still having a hard time with Chewie’s death - living full time in an RV with your dog makes it so much harder. Thank you. Alice
Jim, food cost is a bit high because Larry has medical issues and has a special diet. We paid off our RV and truck with proceeds of the sale of the house. We had a follow behind car but Larry’s company paid for the gas. Now that he quit, we are getting rid of the car. I hope I understood your comment, Alice
I don't see how you spend so much did you not do the conversation to Canada your mouth expenses is our year expenses sorry to here about loosing your best friend
Get rid of the whole life and switch to term life. Also, you guys are spending money like you still have jobs. Cut, cut, cut or you’ll end up going bankrupt. You might want to buy a piece of land to put your RV on, otherwise you’ll pay a mortgage every mth on RV parks, etc.
We do plan on cutting back on many things now that Larry quit his job. But we aren’t retired. We are just looking at other ways to make money. We do want to have a home base some day. We shall see. Alice

Johnny, oh I remember the purges. Actually, we are continually downsizing in some way.

Us too. June 1st. Good luck and see you on the road!
Enjoy each day,
Alice
Dang guys. I had tears when Alice said y’all lost one of your pets. We had two dachshund and we lost one last year. She loved camping and riding the pontoon boat. Love to y’all
Almost had tears when I saw how much y’all spent on living full time. I will just be a weekend warrior.🤣 Thanks for sharing
Steve, fellow dog owners definitely understand. You can see why we didn’t say anything before. It still hurts.
The money? To each his own. Not everyone stays where we stay or lives like we do. Someone told me their campground budget was $1,500 🤣
Thanks again for your words,
Alice
Wow guys!!! So transparent! Amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Darisan, thanks. We tend to get some negative comments because some people don’t want to hear the truth.
Alice
Check out free camping in Florida Water Management areas.
That way you can still get t-shirts.
Tony, we have looked into that. Some were closed. But thanks.
Alice
Hopped over from Nomadic Fanatic. Thanks for the info on expenses.
Robbie, awesome. It was great meeting Eric and playing with Jax. We are a totally different kind of channel. I hope you find something interesting on our channel,
Alice
I'll keep watching. Thanks
Thank you,
Alice
Great break down. Your focused and dedicated. Enjoy the journey your doing great!! Take care.
Thank you for your videos and transparency! These are full of ideas that I haven't fully anticipated and feel better prepared.
LOL
Nick, thanks. Good point. Especially about repairs. Who knows what else might need fixing.
Alice
My wife and I just discovered your channel this weekend and are enjoying all the content you have provided. We are thinking of doing exactly what you are living today in 4 or 5 years. We've started a book to start making notes and planning for our big moment. Your experiences are so informative, and we thank you so much for the details. You two are so awesome!! Thank you!!
Planning is the key, we started planning in 2018, tons of notes, and spreadsheets. 4-5 years will give you lots of time to have a successful full time launch, good luck. Larry
Thanks for sharing! Because my remote job will be our main source of income I think internet will be the biggest concern! Enjoy your time!
Internet is definitely an issue for many now. Larry plans on making a video about our new system. It wasn’t cheap, but so far it works better than others. But there’s no guarantee.
Good luck,
Alice
Don't stop the life insurance reduce the amount. Go from 500,000 to 250,000. Good luck and take care
Pepper, I agree. I just feel we need that safety net, but Larry doesn’t have an income to protect anymore. I guess he feels he’s not worth the money anymore 😂
Alice

4 months sounds like a great plan. We just didn’t have a way to keep a large home and travel.
Good luck to you guys. Glad you enjoyed our silliness.
And remember, sharing is caring- share our video to like minded folks 😉

Thanks the video. This is so helpful, as we’re budgeting as I write. . I love you guys. Would love to meet you on the road.

Keep warm,

Sorry about your dog. My two dogs are like my children and it is hard to imagine loosing them some day. Hurts to even think about.
Richard, thank you for understanding. We have lost dogs in the past. But living full time in an RV seemed to make the loss so much harder.
I’m so glad we still have Scrappy. 🐾 ❤️

And good luck with all the big changes you are going through,

Love your finances, now I’ve got a goal to work for half your expenses when I retire in 8yrs
We definitely have some work to do, we cannot sustain this kind of spend for long. We knew the first year would be expensive, Larry

That is our goal (3800) when we will finally hit the road.

PS- Ditch the high life insurance, don't need any extra reasons for our wives to kill us off! 😂

Well done!! I think that $700.00/month for campground fees seems reasonable to me especially if many are in state/provincial parks....which add so much to the overall experience.

It’s definitely reasonable. Less than our previous mortgage 😂

There are things that can’t be rebought- family heirlooms/antiques etc.

@@billblong6578 Bill, that’s a tough one. All our other dogs are buried on our old property. And when Chewie died, it was the worst. I think because we had so much more time in a small space with her.

@@johnmurrow9216 That’s all great information. We need to talk to our investment advisor and life insurance agent.

Eye opener! 😬 Thanks for the info!
Jackie, remember to take the categories that match the lifestyle you want. Some people prefer boondocking out west and spend little money on camping. We would rather not. We want to be in Florida in the winter to be near our kids.

Your new video is very interesting! Thanks a lot!
Sue, it’s not a fun video, but we feel it’s needed.
Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents It makes me think!
You may want to look into Petco insurance for your dog. It may be cheaper as it covers all visits.
Sue, we thought about pet insurance. Scrappy is healthy despite being around 11. We may still see if it’s worth it with a healthy dog.
Alice
Don’t get rid of that life insurance. Good price and if you want it later cost goes up big time. Love your updates and diy projects. Thanks DMC
We are still deciding on the insurance.
Thanks for the positive feedback,
Alice
Thanks for all the information, I have and will keep my life insurance at a lower amount as a safety net for my wife. Plus keeping what you have is much cheaper than getting a new policy later due to age and health. If you can even get one.
Stephen, excellent points. I would prefer the reduced that getting rid of it.

So tell hubby he better be the first one to comment on Sunday 😂

Sorry to hear about your fur baby. We lost our 15 year old fur baby on January 27th 2021. to congestive heart failure.
Gary, so you understand. It still hurts.

PPS- what was the $6914 spent on RUclips? Advertising or what?

No - keep life insurance, lessen the payout amount. It's important that if Alice doesn't have a good income, life insurance could pay off any debt and still provide her with an income. So sorry for your loss of Chewy 😥🐾😥 - losing a beloved pet leaves a huge hole in your hearts. Wow, $3,800 - that's a chunk more than my current income.

Money spent on storage is wasted $$. Over the year or (years) you can re-buy all that stuff new. Store or save only photos, precious documents, etc. This can be, and should be, at a relatives place for security.
I agree roger, I wish I could have that money back. I think we are ready to let most of the stuff in storage go, I hope! Larry
We don’t have a relative that can store the amount of photos we have from generations. We’d like to make them digital. We did some but ran out of time.

As long as we keep the income low we qualify for max subsidy, our younger son is a dependent so his policy eats up some of our subsidy money. Larry
Did that affordable care act insurance allow you guys to qualify for subsidies? And thanks for all the information.
Yes, there is no way we could afford the insurance through the ACA without the subsidies. Our income now is very low now that i quit my job, so we qualify. If we make more money that the ACA allows we would have to pay back part of the subsidy after we do our taxes next year. Larry.

I really appreciate advice from someone who knows
