watching Tony and Steve is watching two of the finest acrobats that revolutionised the genre like no one before. and also simply impressive what they still can do, when i.e. footballers stop playing at around 30-35.
however watching Rodney is none of that. Its ballet, its art, its simply a beaut. Its not a thing of loud impressive stunts and screams of excitement. its mesmerising and regularly leaves me sitting there with an open mouth and wondering what impossible yet so elegant thing will happen next.

@@liammooney4751 very true. I found him while watching some Braille Skateboarding Videos. This young Anderson is such a talent. But letting aside all his skill, his way of sort of engineering his way trough new tricks and with all of his creativity that lets one think of a early Rodney: All that aside, he is also a good guy, a teamplayer and a good teacher at that young age... I'm very looking forward on seeing what he will bring to the game in 5-10 Years.

@@kaitlin4paramore you're focusing on the wrong part of my statement: what I wrote about Tony and Steve is simply to give them credit for their body of work - which, to be quite honest, is also pretty impressive: 900, Loopings, Spirals, crazy Vert projects... just to name the most obvious ones.
The important part of my statement is actually the same what you are saying: Rodney is on another level... its not simply sport, its not loud, its mesmerising art and yes: it also defined the game like no other.

0:03 he got that antigravity cheat code going lol Rodney Mullen was one of my top favorite skaters, actually the top favorite of mine; I liked him so much that I busted my ass and rolled my ankles so many times trying to do the primo 360 flip and I eventually got it, so when my friends and I would play S-K-A-T-E, that was the trick is pull out that no one else could do, which helped me beat this one kid who was the only one who could nollie out of us all bc he was goofy footed. I skated all throughout middle school, Jr high, and highschool and probably would've kept skating if I never joined the army, but I still love it and love watching the pros I grew up with still rocking dude. With that, I've never got to skate a half pipe.. street skating is what my friends and I all did bc 25 years ago this town wasn't as lively and hip as it is now... It started off as a military town back in the 1800s and then an air force base was built and we have an accredited university, but it was mostly a small, boring, old folks town with a lot of churches and only maybe 15 years ago switched from being a dry county, so yeah, pretty boring, not much to do as a kid but find stairs and ledges to skate on and then run from the cops and smoke pot, cigarette, and drink... The city had a few parks with slides n shit for kids but nothing skate related, and the closest I got to any vert skating was this super steep quarter pipe this BMX kid on the block had and without any real runway room at all, I could still almost hit the top of it, but that's it. Oh, wait, no in highschool the town finally built a "skate park" but it only had two quarter pipes less than 8' tall, a box, a rail, and a two way ramp, all super low to the ground and the area was like half of a basketball court and it was packed all the time, and while it was fun, it was very limited, so we still would skate churches and schools and run from the cops, and they were serious back then, me and a few friends got fkn arrested as if we were adults doing some serious battery type shit, they'd curse at you and man handled you, average small town red neck cops with nothing to do. Fast forward several several years and I just did time on the army and got my honorable discharge and the town built a massive park that has a hockey rink, a pavilion/basketball court, a kid's playground, and a really cool concrete bowl for carving; this thing is nice and steep, it's got transitions, rail around the whole thing, and a couple quarter pipes about 10' tall and a box combo with two way ramps and a rail, and the square feet is about triple of the old spot, and I was like MAN! why didn't they have this when I was a kid?! Y'know?? Haha still though, there's no very skate park here, but I still had fun. I wonder what it's like getting used to a half pipe, like dropping in... I never dropped in on anything higher than 8' or so, and I wanted to carve the bowl at the new skate park, but I'd already lost all my balance and skills... Maybe I should try long boarding to get my legs back and try skating on a real deck again... I'm old and busted up from the army now, so I don't think I'd want to jump stair cases and do acid drops off of houses anymore, but maybe just carve and ride around and grind and do some stalls...

Rodney Mullen is the Godfather. So much respect for this man.
And to think, his Dad hated the fact that he skated and actually wanted him to quit at one point because he thought it wouldn't lead to anything. Little did he know that his son was one of the most naturally gifted skaters in human history.

Hitting ledges and rails street style in a park without pads at 50 years old. Yes, that qualifies as street skating. He also busted a backside 180 kickflip slammed and then got up and landed it. That is street skating no matter where you do it.
