GizmoSlipTech.. I think the power issues you were having was because of the (power plan) it probably was on battery saving instead of high performance or ultimate performance
One thing I really like about MSI is that their laptops always come with a nice cloth thing (I usually fold it in half and put it under the keyboard to rest my hand on), and a cloth cover which is nice to put it in when travelling!
Very thorough review & having bought one, I agree with pretty much every conclusion you make. Funnily enough my version does boost to 175W on the GPU... silicone lottery?
I been buying MSI gaming laptop for last 14 yrs on my second one. Might be time for a third one. I thought about build a desktop PC but graphic wars going on prices. In the mix not sure which way to go.
The phase changing thermal pad is better than liquid metal in long term. Liquid metal doesnt last as long as the phase changing thermal pad. Even legion has taken the path of phase changing material and not liquid metal.
A bit of advice: DO NOT use a cooling pad with this laptop! (unless you have a really strong one). Memory shroud is a pretty good thermal insulation, causing memory to cook inside. In gaming with 21 (70 for USA) degrees ambient temps memory temps are rising to mid-60's (150s for USA) . With cooling pad CPU/GPU temps drops by 2-3 degrees and RAM goes into low-mid 70-s (over 160). I have placed my laptop on my table with Mi Air Purifier below - that actually helps with memory temps, but the forced airflow is way stronger than a typical cooling pad. Apparently the battery and memory area is poorly ventillated and depends on CPU/GPU fans for air circullation - with cooling pad it is disturbed (possibly placing on a flat surface creates a small underpressure that forces a slow airflow through battery.memory/ssd area, with laptop raised that underpressure is removed). Also, DO NOT leave Memtest unattended! With low CPU and GPU load the fans are moving slowly, so the airflow is non-existent - I stopped it with 83/181 memory temp, that was STILL rising.
@@VengeanceGame Depends on fan speed. With low speed USB powered fans (thats the pad I have mentioned in my comment) I'd advise against it - memory is still cooking itself. With some high power fans, supplied from external source - it can help. Though I'd get something with dust filter.

Does MSI laptops have coil whine, ı am not sure but ı think ı have never seen a review which highlights it. Can someone tell if they have seen or experienced?
I was just testing an ASUS with a 140w RTX4070 and I could never get the thing to report more than 100w. Exactly like what you're seeing in this video here, except yours is a 175W and it's not going over 150W. Maybe an Undervolt could help?
Really depends on the game. If the game is CPU bound, the wattage stays lower for the GPU. Timespy can often pull extra wattae because it isn't as CPU bound, but it depends. The 4070 typically does not go over 110W under dual CPU/GPU games, but only in more rare circumstances. Check the Zephyrus M16 video. That was the highest powered 4070 I have tested so far.
@@GizmoSlipTech I ended up returning the ASUS (after watching your teardown actually) because I've seen what ASUS thinks is cooling and MSI just does it a lot better (plus ASUS has become worse than HP with bloat!!!). And because I was largely unimpressed with no USB4/Tb4. Also I got to see first hand what a joke the 4070 is and I also learned that it's a Lie. But get this... I found out that the Raider and Vector run the same motherboard (the MS-15M1) which could mean great things for used parts buyers in a year or so. The next thing I wanna find out is if the Vector and Raider could swap screens (possibly not because they have different shells).

Hey, Im looking for a laptop for media production, 4k video editing and 2D animation work, basically using Adobe Premiere, Aftereffects, and Animate. Do you think this would be a good purchase for such work? I just left my corporate job and need to watch my budget. I already own a professional-grade graphics monitor and some other peripherals, such as a drawing tablet. I'm thinking I could boost the RAM to 64 and add another SDD, and that should be all I would need for mostly animated explainer-like projects.
Hey, the laptop itself would be great, especially for the money. But the laptop display quality not good enough for professional video work in my opinion, so an external display would be needed that has more color gamut and brightness when using the applications if you want it to be colorful.
@@GizmoSlipTech Thanks for the feedback. I have an older BenQ 27" monitor; it's 100% sRGB, so I should be okay. Most of the time, the laptop will be connected to that when I'm editing. Thanks for your input. I feel better about making the purchase! Cheers :) And great review, by the way! Very thorough and concise.

MSI just makes crappy laptops. Gets way too hot and the fans are way too loud. Tried the Titan, Raider and the Vector and returned all three. The RAM consumption is also too high, partly because it runs many unnecessary processes in the background.
@GizmoSlipTech why is it futureproof? (I really don't know anything) wouldn't it be more futureproof for it to have higher pixels since the games are gonna be more and more detailed in the future?
