Left lane hog on the Interstate brake checks me.

- Some people don't seem to understand that the left lane is the passing lane on the highway and in Many states in the U.S. you can be pulled over and ticketed for driving in the passing lane without passing anyone. This guy was driving slowly in the passing lane and forcing people to pass him on the right. When I got behind him I flashed my lights to try to get his attention and he responded by brake checking me. More people passed him since he had slowed down so much. It sucks when you try to do things the right way and people respond by acting like children. When I was finally able to pass him he was looking over at me all angry like I was the one in the wrong. I don't understand how some people have a driver's licence.
I honestly believe that the way someone drives truly reflects their character, personality and what they think of the world.

If that made you mad stay away from the DC area highways. About 80% of the time (If traffic is actually moving) you'll see people merge onto the highway and go straight to the left lane. Even when there is no-one in the center lane. Mind boggling.
Trust me, that behavior is not unique to DC. I swear it's becoming an epidemic and I do not understand it.
Some people believe the left lane is the "fast" lane, not merely the "passing" lane. They set their cruise control for a "fast" 5 MPH over the speed limit, and then they feel if they are in the "fast" lane, they have the right to just stay there, because they are going "fast." I have family members who think that way. Fortunately, those members don't do much driving anymore.
CFHforever same with New York too, I come across like hundreds of left lane hogs every single day.

If they didn't know the law, they shouldn't be driving in the first place. If they do but dont care, they still shouldn't be driving. I give them 5 seconds to get over, if not i pass on the right (and flip the bird as I do) no fucking excuse for it.

Too many idiots on the road that think it's okay to drive in any lane at any speed. If there's a lane to your right and you're not actively and quickly passing people, you belong in the right lane, period.
Not exactly. With 3 lanes, right is for slowpokes going under the limit, middle lane for those going the limit or over and the left lane is for passing, not racing. If you wanna go 85 in a 70 and feel the fact you are outpacing everyone entitles you to live in the left lane, you are wrong. You should get a ticket for endangering the rest of us. 3 or 4 over I understand but 15 over? No excuse, moving violation, first offense. People driving like that, weaving thru traffic and tailgating anyone trying to pass without going 85 are a menace to us all and kill many people every year.
@@sputnut You are correct about the speed limit. Yes, everyone should abide the speed limit. However, highways are significantly safer when left lane is open for overtaking, and that's why hogging the left lane (even at correct speed) is illegal. It's not your job to stop people from speeding. Also, Ambulance has to speed, police has to speed, special vehicles have to speed. You are simply wrong.
@@sputnut germans are capable of properly using multi lane hwys. for some reason u guys think the middle lane is a cruising lane, its not. both left lanes are passing lanes. if americans learned how to use a hwy properly, there would be a lot less congestion on the hwys which results in far less accidents. we have unlimited speed sections on the autobahn and yet have far less accidents than your hwys with the slow speed limits u guys have
@@bruma5389 since Germans use the left as a passing lane and always keep right when not passing that’s why you can even have unlimited stretches.If us Yankees can follow the rules then we can increase or abolish speed limits

Minivans should be banned from the left lanes. I wouldn't quite consider that brake checking directed at you. Hitting the brakes for no reason is SOP for minivan drivers.

Gotta be the softest brake check on youtube... and to me it looked more like they weren't sure if it was ok to move over or not, since other traffic was passing them on the right.
No, they shouldn't have been in that lane in the first place, but they did move over unlike most "real" hoggers we see here on youtube.
This happens constantly in CT. People always hog the left lane and go slower than the rest of traffic, forcing people to pass on the right. If you flash your lights at them, they brake check and get angry instead of moving over. I see it everyday. It’s crazy. Last night someone got on the highway, and immediately moved to the far left lane. When another car came up behind them, they started hitting the brakes, the car behind flashed their lights, and the slow car brake checked them. When the car behind them passed on the right, the slow car flipped them off and never moved over. I see this everyday here, people are idiots.
I’m not even sure that that qualified as a brake check. That was a nervous driver at best. Nervous drivers tend to use their brakes more than they should. The fact that they eventually moved over proves that.

Some cars show brake lights when in cruse control when correcting speed. But, sight seeing in the passing lane is unsafe for all.

It drives me that's when people do that it's like pick a lane already but then they try to block you in and they slow down when you can't get over and go around them. Absolutely, some people don't have that understanding. They will brake check you every time. Other people think that if they sit on a person's tail, they will move over. Doesn't always happen. A relative of mine did 4 rear end collisions by following too close. Then, there was my step mother no. two. Everytime I visited, I had to take the car in for repairs because she would hit something in one car accidents. And, you expect everyone to follow the rules???? Develop a better philosophy. Think about how life could be worse, you could be married to the doffus in the left lane. And, if the guy brake checked you and you hit him, do you think a civil court and your insurance company would conclude it was all the other guy's fault?
I saw videos where people cheer for the left lane hog and consider it an instant karma. Wtf is wrong with Americans?

People think that because they're not trying to "think" such as,
I think I want to go faster.
I think I want to go around this car.
or I think I might or might not be in somebody's way.
They feel because they just tune out of their consciousness of driving that therefore they're not asking for you to do anything for them.
And because they're not asking for anything and you are asking them to be conscious that makes you the whiner that makes you the one that wants special accommodations. that makes you the bad guy.
When you point out that they're being ignorant and they're pointlessly in your way they feel that that is you asking them
to bend and do something special for you.
But it's still that driver holding up other drivers. 1 vs 10 other drivers or more. Not caring, you could also park on the highway if you think like " they're not asking" or maybe just make a quick fuck in front of a green light with you'r girl. Who cares about others, right?

Stay out of the Southern southeastern United States because we don't call it brake checking until they're smoke from the tires.
Calling this a brake check is beyond ridiculous if no one had to maneuver to avoid an accident then it was not a brake check not even kind of sort of almost a hint of a brake check I can't believe that this much traffic went this far down the road without pointlessly tapping their brake lights like this as it is but not slowing down at least at least 10 or 20 miles an hour is not a brake check! Just absolutely not.

lay back and go around them strategically. then whip infront of them unexpectedly and let off your gas but don't brake. then hit windshield washer fluid button 5 or 6 times followed by a few pennies and nickels thrown out the driver window. then go on your way. 👌

umm while I agree that slower drivers should move over and I'm going to ask what ever happened to the mature and simple flash of the lights to let someone when there is not a car to their right move over. too many people want to go straight to tailgating it's ridiculous. both are breaking the law the only difference is that while left lane hoggers are in the wrong and may be irritating as fuck, left lane hogging is illegal, while tailgating is performed by those who are clinically insane. regardless of the situation attempting to even act like you are trying to cause physical harm to someone is fucking crazy. And the person tailgating should seek anger management therapy and/or see your doctor for the actual medical diagnosis of intermittent explosive disorder look it up. And get some medication.
I agree that tailgating is dumb, and I wasn't very close to the minivan until the driver brake checked me. I didn't want to hit the brakes to hard myself as I had traffic behind me as well and didn't want to cause more of a problem. I did exactly like you suggested and flashed my lights when I came up behind their vehicle and the driver decided to respond by recklessly slamming on the brakes. The minivan driver was the one causing all of the problems here.

just a PS though while I find flashing lights to be a far safer alternative then tailgating. in the up most respect not sure whether you did or not you don't want to flash high beams just quick turn of the lights off an on or on and off

He shouldn't have to go around. The person in the passing lane and passing nothing should get out of that lane and stay out of that lane unless he/she wants to pass another vehicle. That's the lesson for you & everyone who thinks like you. We're tired of having to drive around/accommodate your selfish, entitled asses.

This is a very easy video to dissect. The guy is clearly on his cell phone. Anyone who drives has seen people on their cell phone driving slower and slower while they're typing. You can tell by the way he is drifting towards the yellow line. When he hit his brakes he was on the yellow line or very close to it. That's the only reason he had hit his brakes. He was in such a rush to get over and get out of your way nicely that he put his blinker on while people were next to him. Probly didn't notice the people next to him because he was still on his phone. And as soon as it was nobody in the right lane he got over and out of your way. I think he was the nice one here and you were the a******
I looked over at the driver as I passed him. He wasn't on his phone. He seemed like an inexperienced driver that wasn't aware enough of what he was doing.
How can you say the guy is clearly on his cell phone when you can't see a phone in the video? That makes no sense and there are other reasons why someone would be drifting towards the yellow line. And obviously you weren't there and the uploader of the video was, so he knows what happened more than anybody else, so maybe you had better change your username to NoCommonSense King!!

But how fast were you going. Nobody ever actually says how slow the right lane hog was actually going. I understand about the passing lane thing but was he going the speed limit and you just wanted to go faster?
I don't remember how fast I was going, but I believe he was going just under the speed limit, although that's irrelevant anyway. The passing lane is for passing period. You make your pass and get back over to the right. You can also see other cars passing him on the right before he finally got over and there were more cars behind me. He was impeding the flow of traffic plain and simple. If there was a cop on the road at the time this guy would have been pulled over.
doesn't matter....if the right lane was doing 30 mph over the limit, doesn't mean you should drive in the PASSING lane....
We have a law here in Ontario "keep right except to pass" and "slower vehicles keep right"......doesn't say "those doing the speed limit"......
The whole issue is many left lane hogs think they are the police and it is their duty to slow people down.....
