what a game! not winning at the G since 2014 and now knocking out the reigning premiers in a big final! dosent get much better than that

Those two Brisbane goals to beat the sirens at the end of the second and third quarters were the key moments of the game. The Lions were so gritty and it really translated deeper into the second half.
Same thing happened last week, 2 goals at or after the siren, absolute guts!
Bet this felt like a grand final for the Lions after their record at the capital G and their previous run ins against the Ds, they really knuckled down last night, great to see. Pressure got to Melbourne big time.
To be honest after that performance even if we lose to geelong (as much as I will be disappointed) I will be more than happy that we got this far. We’ve definitely got the toughest run out of any team in this finals series. I am so proud. Go lions!!! 🦁🏆
They went absolutely nuts in the second halve their pressure from all over the ground was just amazing great job lions good luck in a prelim.
The Charlie Cameron set shot on his opposite foot @5:54 is absolutely clinical; terrific skill execution under pressure.
The entire Jake Lever moment sums up Melbourne's year. Too cute and too arrogant. That was shocking. Their 2nd half blues are unbelievable. It's happened so many times - coughing up big leads, terrible poor movement, inaccurate goal kicking, poor defence, selfish players going for low probability plays, hospital passes, players thinking they can take on a tackle and then getting pinged. Brisbane's pressure in the second half was outstanding.
There were players that had awful games. It was strange, because some of them are usually reliable and haven't played so bad.
I genuinely feel sorry for the guy. I can totally relate (not elite sportsman relate 😂 but definite human brain fade relate 😂🤦🏻♂️). Seems like a good bloke, key player, great defender, caught up in the hysteria of the moment then just zoned out for enough seconds to lose any chance of a mini comeback. Seems crazy I know. How could anyone in that moment be so absent minded. Well, I get it.
The weight of devastation on his face was heartbreaking. Fatal error. 100 times worse than Jayden’s kick-in brain fade against Sydney. It’s an unrelenting unforgiving sport. Hope it doesn’t break him and he comes back next year even better and stronger.

@@imalwaysright who knows? It’s interpreting body language. It’ll always be subjective. Only Lever really knows. Though his elongated stare at the screen suggests he doubted the umpire’s call (which was a correct one) and could be interpreted as arrogance for sure. But yeah, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

The dees didn’t look like they were the team this year. Sluggish on Defence and consistently turning it over in the foward half with silly mistakes. I am very impressed with Brisbane who will now play Geelong in a big preliminary final.
defence has been solid, but the turnovers and not marking it in full forward is a huge weakness atm
they started the season looking like they were unbeatable then fell in a bit of a heap

At the middle of the season, I said that Melbourne will easily win the flag. Well now they’re gone in straight sets. I am never underestimating Brisbane or overestimating Melbourne again

@@depressedessendonfan5702 They were 15 seconds away from missing m the top 4 all together. Very lucky to beat Carlton in round 22. I never fell for the hype either. They can’t handle pressure and have Brown and Melksham in their forward line. Couldn’t even beat Brisbane at home without Daniher and McInerney. I’ve felt for a while that Geelong, Sydney and Collingwood were the best 3 sides.

I watched this live with the sound off and the radio commentary from the ABC. Got to half time with BT and JB who both sound like they are watching from the pub after a long lunch, and had to stop.

Melbourne are not going to be able to sleep tonight. No team likes finishing the season top 4 and losing 2 straight matches to get knocked out.
Having said that, it is always nice seeing the #5-8 teams beating the top 4 as it does not happen every year.

The first half was flabby but they managed to stay in touch. The 3rd quarter was a ripper and the last 15 mins was spectacular for sure. They have to have that belief pre-game.

Well done to Brisbane. They were atrocious first half, had big names out, and came out second half a different team with huge contest and defensive pressure. Melbourne couldn't handle it. Don't forget Lions were thrashed by Melbourne twice during the year - by 64 and 58 points. The Lions stood up. A lot of players can be named, but hard not to recognize Neale, Hipwood, Berry (minus the eye grab).

Melbourne had lost too many games for their own good in the H&A season. Their inconsistency combined with their undeserving finish of 2nd put them in a bad position. I take my hat off to the Lions here as they have done what everyone thought they couldn't!

They haven’t been clean or consistent all year (though remaining in the top 8 all season is clear they’d done enough) and their defence has been an issue. I would wager there is no “best” team this season - never a clear winner - just look at Melbourne, and Geelong haven’t put it away either. This is what makes this finals series one of the best ever - such close close match ups! I fckn love this game!!!

Because Lever was tackled. It was either holding the ball or incorrect disposal. Could be insufficient attempt to keep the ball in the ground. Brisbane were awarded a free kick for that. Then he didn't hand the ball straight over - you have to hand the over immediately, and not delay the game, so they got a 50m penalty which meant McStay could kick in front of his goals.
Better not let the lynching of Berry by Lyons last night impact the Berry decision. If you think that face rub was worse than Harmes you are a total joke.
Both examples were not great though, right? I also hope not. There was a bit of hooked fingers there so it doesn’t look great, but still, I hope not.

The dees were on top for most of the first half but full credit to the lions, that was an incredible fightback in the second half and were the better side when it mattered most.
I was going for Melbourne in this game but the performance by Brisbane was phenomenal. I hope the lions can now win the premiership as much there the team no one expects to do so

Thank you Brisbane for defeating both Melbourne and Richmond (the two teams that SUCK). Good luck in the prelim!!

And then there were five... teams remaining. I didn't watch most of the game unforfunately. Brisbane got sick of losing heavily to Melbourne and finally took a stand against the Demons. The Lions took down a reigning premier on their own turf. Last week on SEN, Anthony Hudson said that "Melbourne's back-to-back campaign is now backs to the wall" and now, it's back to the drawing board for the Demons. Brisbane can enjoy staying in Melbourne with a Preliminary Final rematch with Geelong and who knows? A Grand Final berth for the first time in eighteen years awaits the Lions should they emerge victorious. Otherwise Geelong will play in the Grand Final at the MCG for the first time since 2011. The Grand Final was at the Wooloongabba in 2020. Melbourne fans will be wondering where it all went wrong this Finals Series at they're forced to watch on.
Fun facts: This is the seventh time in nine seasons that at least one top four team crashed out in straight sets and the 2022 Melbourne (2nd) are the eighth team in nine years to go from Qualifying Finalist to straight-sets exit. They are also the first team since the 2016 Hawthorn (3rd) to crash out of the Finals in straight sets as a reigning premier and the first to lose BOTH home Finals games (regardless of whether they were the away team or not) to suffer a straight-sets exit since the 2018 Hawthorn (4th).

Melbourne to me are as disappointing as you can get because they played this year like they were satisfied with last year's premiership. One premiership in 60 years isn't something to hang your hat on. Two finals losses should be seen as a failed year.
