- VMFA presents Richmond Sessions ’22-’23, a series of studio recordings by an eclectic roster of guitarists performing in the art exhibition Storied Strings: The Guitar in American Art.
Lucy Kaplansky joins us in this session. Lucy started out singing in Chicago folk music clubs as a teenager and found herself at the center of a community of songwriters and performers in New York City. After breaking from music to receive a doctorate in clinical psychology, she was pulled back into the studio by friends and signed with Red House Records. Two of her albums have been awarded Best Pop Album of the Year by the Association for Independent Music. She has appeared on CBS Mornings; NPR’s Weekend Edition, Morning Edition, and All Things Considered; Mountain Stage; and West Coast Live. Her latest album, Last Days of Summer, was released in June 2022.

Lucy is the BEST ❤!
these are terrific sessions with artists - thanks!
So glad you had Lucy Kaplansky as one of your visiting artists. Her song "The Red Thread" meant so much to us- as we also adopted our daughter from overseas. A wonderful musician.
Such a great session!
Wonderful interview and fascinating insight into the soul of songwriting. Keep it up! A great start to an very promising series.
what's the deal ?? they couldn't find a chair without arms so she could sit back instead of being on the edge ..
