This video captures Burning Man 2013 from an elevation of 5495 feet above sea level and over 4 linear miles from the center of Black Rock City. Old Razorback, aka Trego Peak, provides a unique vista of this incredible annual event. Climbing to the peak of Old Razorback has become a challenging and rewarding tradition for our team. This is a view that most will never experience in person. It is our passion to share it with the world through the lens of a camera. Climbing 1,888 feet in less than a mile over steep, unstable mountainside is a dangerous and exhilarating mission. This year we deployed cameras during the build week, capturing the growth of the city and ending it the night of the burn. We express gratitude to the family and friends that joined us for this epic climb. We could not do it alone. Many thanks to our team this year: Mark Phipps, John Phipps, Dallon Phipps, Kevin Johnson & Meghan Johnson. We also offer heartfelt thanks to OpenOptics (Inspired Flight) and Dusty Nix for designing such an incredible sound score for this year's rendition (inspiredflightmusic.com, dustynix.com).

I've gone a dozen times since 98 and it's never easy to describe Burning Man to other people but I will include this video in any of those future attempts at offering some small idea as to what it's all about.
Just amazing to see this. Thanks!
I agree!
Yeah I'm having my friends tell me to shut the f****** about burning Man did I talk about it too much but I mean I don't know how to describe it to them
Lovely. Looks like a galaxy.
KatYoora we're all Youniverses within a Universe...live in love
That video rocks.
This is amazing. Haunting. Spectacular. Really cool to watch and try to contemplate everything that's being captured in all these lights: the people, the devices, the events. And really cool just to watch.
This is by far the coolest thing I've ever Seen on RUclips very well done Mr Phipps ✊
We got to the base of the mountain at 5:30 AM and arrived at our camp around 11. The sun beating down on a steep incline made of unstable, decomposed gravel carrying 50-60lbs bags. Best. Hike. Of. My. Life. The blood, sweat, tears, and 10 hour wait were well worth it. Seeing that man burn in real life on top of a barren mountain was amazing. Massive lights in a seemingly neon city tainting the very gravel and rock around us with colors of the rainbow. I will always remember that glorious hike.
I'm up for that challenge. I survived hiking "The Wave" this past September and would love to capture similar footage. It's been 5 years. I think a repeat is due.
That's my brother and sister-in-law!!!! Dude, it's not just the great photography, but the music and the passion. Reminds me of endless hours on the beach talking about life.
This was my first burn, and it was amazing. Thanks so much for this beautiful flashback :)
Thank you for this video! It inspired me to write this below about a year ago, before I ever made the journey to BRC (I just got back a few days ago from my first burn and sure enough, it surpassed and defied any words I put to it.) It brought to mind biblical-type images of pilgrimage and discovery, climbing a mountain and looking down onto a proud city, which looks so much like a shield to me in your video.
Title: See!
Lo, behold; see that huddle of humanity!
Sweep eyes across that crouching shield of shanty tents, of hazard stakes; they number as few as the moon yet shine with the light of the stars. Gaze proudly on the stalwart standards of tattered canvas, and let the sound of surging hearts and hammers beating love into twisted metal ring out in your ears. Their every breath screams fuck you to futility; their very existence a challenge to a timeless alien vastness. Immensity howls with barren breath in the face of this truth-emblazoned aegis, hurling elemental rage against its hunkered form. Yet, still, the city’s ragged arms hold strong; protecting, protecting against human hubris, against greedy bones probing for your deepest dreams and desires only to pluck them from your peaceful sanctuary and feed them to a mass of screaming millions fated to fear and consume and devour. Away your sight from this dark terror, this waking nightmare; raise your eyes, people, I say to you, see now this place!
Here, do the shackles of man fall freely to the ground. Here, does this levee of lean-tos and ragged shacks, of worn, friendly hands and knowing smiles, turn a tide from ravaging a populace already starving. Here, the streets overflow brimming with the celebration of collective symbiosis; a nest woven of life, rising and falling with its fluttering breaths. Here, the strings of the universe strum richly and the heartbeat of the city throbs gasping in wonder and delight. Here, life blooms epically in a fiery forge of humanity, a battered cradle suspended in a macrocosm of wind, space, sand and time. Here, the minds of men ride stallions of sun in a brilliant whirl, flashing and slashing at foes in the midnight sky, striking down the ghosts of those who walked with heavy hearts and fear in their eyes. Here, the embrace of man is a pillar around which all souls must kneel and rise, giving homage to that which burdens you and enlightens you. Here, we live as humans fulfilled to our own standard.
It. IS. Possible.
See!
This right here has inspired me to go!! Thank you that was amazingly beautiful!!!

this is one of the best short youtube videos i have ever seen... EVER! If you told me this was a sci-fi scene from a far away planet in the year 2999, i would believe you! spectacular! thanks
That was beautiful !
this is art, just like the sculptures, cars and people. Really a truly phenomenal piece of work! Thank you.
Definitely my favorite video I have seen so far of any BM!
Thank you so much for this amazing time-lapse.
The choice of the music is gorgeous!
I'm breathe-taking.
THANK YOU!!!
Love & more.
Thank you for this video! I have watched it maybe 10 times now and really love it. I attended burning man this year for the first time. This video shows how beautiful it is at night on the playa in a way that I haven't found in a video yet :)
Great prospective. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent time laps
Very nice! Cheered me up after watching a video that made me sad, thanks.
This video was surreal, like if we all were on another neon light-filled planet. Loved my first burn!
Wow, beautiful, and from a perspective not usually seen. Nice choice of music, too. Makes you realize the whole event itself is one giant piece of art.
Thank you this has made me want to go even more so now than ever.
Gorgeous. And it captures the odd grounded serenity I found in the midst of the bubble of activity. It makes me want to go back.
Thank you for sharing that!!
It was my first year, and this brought me right back home :-D
Just wonderful!!!!
In my humble opinion, Phipps' videos are the only ones that can capture the incredible experience at night on the playa. The city looks so tiny from above, but in fact it is really huge. Without ever being there, you cannot imagine the thrill when standing in the middle, watching almost 80,000 people around you partying and screaming all the night. Those city lights are fascinating and, as you can see, I am still impressed. Thanks a lot for the videos! ;-)
This is phenomenal! well done.
A true gift the the playa this year. You should be so proud of this clip. Thank you so much.
)'(
Wonderful!
Hi, I'm Danny, and I'm a Proud member of the Burner community.. and welcome to my home.
This is the best thing I have ever seen. Ever. Whoever made this video deserves a medal. And a hug. A hug made out of starlight and joy. And maybe a million dollars. YAY!!!
As a 17-year burner, I have seen a LOT of videos. This is, without a doubt, the most outstanding piece I have ever seen. Bravo!!!
This was beautiful.
AWESOME, great music also,,,, thanks.
Left me in tears...just beautiful.
I absolutely love the song that accompanies this video.
Thanks Aaron. I know it will need to be a few years from now, but this is an event we need to attend together someday. It's a great place to spend endless hours talking about life, and enjoying it at the same time :-)
What a gorgeous, evocative tribute to Burning Man! It is a lot of work to do that much time lapse. Congratulations.
thank you thank you! you and your team. I love BRC and all it's inhabitants and have frequently dreamed of what it would look like from this exact perspective. All my dreams fulfilled.
So beautiful. Felt like I was back on the playa
wonderful! thank you!
This year was my first and not my last time attending BM, It really touched me deep and it is an amazing place to sit and talk about life...think about the past and look forward too the future. Thank you for making this beautiful time lapse I know its not easy and I appreciate your dedication.
One of few videos you can't actually feel not only the time and effort but the Peace Love Unity and Respect...
beautiful great music too
Thank you for this. A previous poster nailed it when he noted that this captures the "grounded serenity" on the edge of a bubble of activity - the energy expended to create such a thing and the exuberance that celebrates it.
Amazing!
Thank You So Much! =D
Time may move differently for any other life forms out "there" and I see this as how they may view our existence and find it humbling yet fascinating in that respect. To have been there as it was viewed and shot from your camp and to ponder the meaning of life must have been memorable and possibly life changing conversations. Thanks for making this.
beautiful...
breath-taking.
This is giving me chills
Amazing, Video
The density of magic was definitely at an all time high this year. This time laps is hard evidence of that. Simply...WOW!!!
beautiful it captured the feeling I had after I left black rock city
The burn this year was indescribable. This is by far the most magical place on the planet. Its the type of place the world needs to be, but isn't ready to be. Thank so much for the upload. It ignited my emotions.
Excellent footage! Gives an idea how big the actual site really is, the lighting installations look amazing from a distance.
Awesome!
BEAUTIFUL video ! :)
This is excellent...
that is awe captured for a moment...
