  • In the final moments of the #HouseoftheDragon premiere, Viserys Targaryen tells his daughter Rhaenyra about Aegon the Conqueror's prophetic dream which drove him to make his conquest of Westeros. What does the prophecy mean? How was it transferred to Viserys? How does it involve familiar faces like Rhaegar Targaryen and Jon Snow? Let's find out.

I think I heard this theory on Grey Area’s channel, but I thought it was cool: Aegon did tell Cregan Stark about the prophecy, and the Starks passed it down to their heirs like the Targaryens. The reason they don’t know about it at the start of the series is because both the Lord (Rickard Stark) and the heir (Brandon Stark) were killed at the same time by the Mad King. Ned was never supposed to be the Lord of Winterfell, so they never told him. I thought it was a cool parallel to the Targaryens who also died before passing it down at some point.

The Starks already knew about the others in the north the Targaryens and the Starks was supposed to have a child (the pact of ice and fire) which will make that child the prince that was promised with descendants of old Valyria and the descendants of the kings of winter

Also, I feel like the stuff we're given/told in House of the Dragon could be considered in line w/ book canon since GRRM is credited as being one of the writers for HotD. He wasn't actively involved in the writing of GOT, he just gave D&D notes on where he planned on ending up and the broad strokes of how he'd get there. D&D had to fill in the blanks and they failed miserably

That's not how 'Canon' works. His books concerning this period are already written. The show is not ADDING to them, it is trying to INTERPRET Canon in a way that makes sense for the TV Viewer.
Take the 'Ten Commandments' movie with Charleston Heston. He plays the *biblical Moses,* and in the Movie version there is a _relationship_ and plenty of dialogue between himself and Ramsey's wife... that's not in the Bible and putting it in the movie did nothing to change the Biblical narrative. The _Ten Plagues_ all mentioned but not graphically shown with no real attention given to any but the most important ones. That doesn't change the fact that they are written about at length in scripture. *CANON*

Quick little theory. I believe the baby the night king was turning into a white walker, was his way of making a prince (maybe like an heir). Thus still making the long night prophecy still be a looming threat towards Westeros, and this is where the Jon Snow TV show could focus on, also giving them a chance to make the prince who was promised prophecy come true.
I could be completely wrong, but this is one solution I think they could use to save the horrid writing from season 8 long night episode

Ya it’s more like The Others we’re awakened rather than a Night King
It’s a nice theory, but definitely not the case because Aegon created the Iron Throne well after the Long Night was over, and the whole reason he conquered Westeros is because he believed the Targaryens were the best option to fend of The Others.
TLDR- if The Others awakened once the Targaryens were displaced on the Iron Throne, what was holding them back the thousands of years the Iron Throne existed

This part is kinda obvious to me: Rhaegar is obsessed with “three” because of Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys (the original conquerors) and believes he has to have 3 children to fulfill the prophecy. Elia Martell can no longer bear children, and so she is passed on at the tourney for Lyanna Stark who Rhaegar believes will give him a 3rd child to fulfill the prophecy (the 3rd child being Jon Snow). He naturally assumes his oldest male heir will be the “prince who was promised”, but he will be mistaken because Aegon “VI” was killed by the Mountain. It will be Jon Snow who is the prince who was promised.

My Theory on Show Universe not Book Universe
Aegon's dream required a Targaryen leading Westeros not to deal the final blow against the Night King. Leaders lead wars. They do not always participate in the battles. The White Walkers, similar to the Targaryens, diminished over time. They no longer have the giant spiders and other dark creatures they once used during the first Long Night.
It is likely Azor Ahai traveled to Essos to learn the art of stealth and assassination. The skills of stealth helped Azor Ahai avoid the white walkers to reach the Children of the Forest. The Children would give the valeyrian dagger, made from the dragonglass that built the Night King, to Azor Ahai. The dagger helped Azor Ahai stealthily kill many white walkers that lead legions of wights. The White Walkers would lose their might dark creatures, such as giant spiders, to the First Men and Children of the Forest alliance. Azor Ahai traveled back to Essos and entrusted the dagger to the red priests who over time later entrusted the dagger to the Targaryen family of Valeyria.
The Red Priests believe the same method Azor Ahai used to defeat the White Walkers is needed to end the second Long Night, thus the prophecy of Azor Ahai being reborn was made. However, that was not the case.
R'hllor is involved in the fight against the White Walkers. However, the Many-Faced God was also involved via Arya since the Night King is an aberration and an insult towards death. It makes sense that R'hllor starts the fight and the Many-Faced God's follower ends it.

Jordan Reed was he seems like he knew more than he should for his age he was wise for his young age he also was kind of sad all the time, he knew when he was going to die so that kind of made him a little bit sad and a little bit dark anyway and you know that people said kind of the same thing about rhaegar how he always had a kind of a sadness about him was a little bit of melancholy and yeah he we know he pursued the prophecy thing so maybe he knew what was going to happen in the end and that's how he knew that he was not azor ahai but perhaps his son was.... But rather mainly about the duty to fulfill that prophecy. I believe that the starks whos lineage went back to the days of the long night, passed this task down generations also like the targaryans. I believe it was the reason of how rhaenerya gained the starks on her side. She passed it down to her sons who flew out to the north to get the starks support for her claim to the throne (which happens in the book and probably on the show later on.

    GRRM , Targaryen are evil.
GRRM , they are like NAZIS WITH DRAGONS .
Also GRRM fans makes the conquest something Romantic, makes them the actual saviors of Westeros.
Everyone should stop spoiling the tale, honestly. Shih don’t make no sense.
And don’t come to me with the nuances. We’re talking about Aegon himself, who went on a murder mission, for control and power. Killing thousands on the way.
Giving the conquest the excuse of a lifesaving mission to save the faith of the poor Westerosi, seems beneath Martin, and is quite a foolish stretch. It takes away all the lessons the author himself repeatedly say to be sharing with the story. There’s no punchline. Life doesn’t work like that, conquerors, on expansionist missions are not to be justified as saviors, that’s never their motifs. Aegon didn’t look to Westeros and was like, I need to save these people. But thats what this whole prophecy thing makes it sound like. Martin has always been loyal to real history, and the lore requires a lot of realism for it to be believable, all this is however unrealistic, it takes so much from the story. Is just 🤮. Y’all doing too much.

Undoubtedly, a conqueror kills and enslaves people but it wouldn't be hard to imagine such a person could do it more easily and successfully if they believed it to be the righteous path. Most people don't wake up tomorrow and go "I'm gonna take over my neighbour's property because I can". Most characters in GOT do what they do, at the very last in pretence, the way they believe they rightfully should.

Then sure, we can say Aegon did it for selfish reasons. Because he doesn't want the world to be destroyed and the legacy of his house to live forever. Is conquering Westeros the way to do it? Unsure, but that is how Aegon the conqueror interpreted it. Potentially, his family could have lived in dragonstone until the long night came but how could you ensure that the Westerosi kings would come together to fight the Others? Genocide is a bit of a stretch since he did not attempt to extinguish the first men, the Andals or even the Rhoynar whom he was not able to conquer. He just wanted them bound to one ruler so that mobilising an army is far simpler. You can debate the morality of it but the practicality seems sound to me.
