When the Arabs came they were accepted and given a different, what one would call in the USA or Europe as a Ghetto (a separate place for foreigners). Unfortunately a lot of large cities are currently sitting on potential archaeological sites especially on the coast lines. Some of those sites have probably been destroyed since no archeological surveys were carried out before those cities expanded. There are some known sites that for sure have some buried history underground but are somewhat prohibited from being excavated due to religious (and other such mysterious) reasons. Super interesting. I hope they managed to date some of these finds as well. So little is known about this very interesting period of West African history and here it seems they finally found the twin city configurations described by the Arab traders. Koumbi Saleh, which was once thought to have been the capital of the Ghana Empire turns out to be of later date and the royal city was never found in the area. Here it seems they have found the real thing. Could you please add some links to your sources for this story as well?
If I read the comments of people posting here I get the impression that a lot of them let themselves be influenced by the ancient alien type of nonsense, but then in an African context, often promoting the 19th century racist colonial ideas. In scientific circles there is no doubt about those realms being local, run by local people. Their wealth in gold was legendary since ancient times and they did not live in isolation with the outside world before Islam made its inroads either. The Roman equivalents of Stanley and Livingstone went there to try and find the Nile and have been recorded. Herodotus has some stories about them as well. Garamantes traded cross Sahara.
West Africa is as much part of the human story as other regions that have been dug up for 150 years, like Europe and the Middle east. And those regions still produce new insights that had been previously considered impossible, like Gobekli Tepe in Turkey. In colonial times there was little incentive to do research there and US education is geared to create ignorance and racist attitudes. It is well time that this injustice is being set right. Africa is the mother of all humanity and has the longest history of all.
But please,.. to all subscribers here. Do not fall into the same trap of linking the achievements of your ancestors to those of others. Egypt had little to do with anyone but their neighbours. Nor were pyramids built with modern tools. A lot of the assumptions you will hear being made by the fringe is easily rebuffed. Stones sticks, string and some copper blades was all that was required. The same applies to West Africa. Even though it had limited trade connections until the introduction of Camels in the 1st century, knowledge and inventions will have made it there as well and vice versa. There is much history to find hidden in the vast area of Africa.

Truth be told, if more archeological studies are done in sub Sahara, we will be stunned with the sheer number of new findings that would be discovered. Take for example, the Nok culture sculptures were discovered by accident in 1920s in present day Nigeria . This single accidental finding shows that Africans in west Africa were using Iron to smelt and forge tools as far back as 500 BC. How many more ancient civilisations like Nok culture are we yet to find?

I live on the Island of Barbados. I have read your work on the Igbo people which my research tells me is the tribe of Gad. If you doubt me ask them that is the ones that may know their history. When you read Numbers 32 you would get the picture. The reason why they would have artifacts from Egypt is because they brought them from there. When they left Egypt with Moses they stopped just where they are instead of going to Israel with the other tribes. They had the tribe of Reuben and the half tribe of Manasseh with them. I am in the process of discovering that so much of history adds up with Bible it is amazing and mind boggling. All praises to The Most High. ✌️👍👍👍💯

Hi HTH I've loved your vides for years now. thanks again. I'm looking for a reference to the poet warriors who... i can't remember if it was like a historical argument or a battle of regime and reference or what. Does that ring any bells? a class of warriors who would first have some sort of poetic or verbal stand off. I want to say Zulu but it's been years since I heard the story. any ideas?. thanks again. keep it up.
