Contentment is the wise man’s gold. It fills your heart with joy and calms your mind with gratitude. If your heart is full and your mind is calm, you have a very good life.

I watch this video every few months and always cry. I'm so jealous of this man's heart, his generosity of spirit, his contentment. I hope he lives the rest of his life in peace and dies surrounded by the nature he loves.

This film highly touched my heart. The shepherd could inspire everyone who live in hectic life of city, of course including me. He hardly imagines that a man watching his gorgeous life is in tears who dwells in just opposite side of earth.

Absolutely brilliant. We've been running a tiny sheep farm in west wales for 5 years and we have friends just like Evan. Same outlook on life. Always ready to help. They understand and enjoy their lives. They've welcomed us because we are here to farm (in our own tiny way) - we didn't just come here to be tourists. We have to save these small family farms. The quality of their livestock and the care they provide them is second to none. They've taught us so much. It would be a disaster to let their knowledge disappear in lieu of high intensity low quality farming. Thank you for making this documentary!

@@galinarou compared to years ago the use of wool has plummeted. We use too many oil based fibres for clothes and other material now. The expensive wool products toy mention tend to be labour intensive to make hence the cost. Considering how brilliant wool is and how sustainable it’s crazy we’ve let it fall out of fashion in the way we have.

I had been googling for something to add to a weekly devotion about Psalm 23, and came upon this beautiful story. The glorious countryside and Farmer Davies gentle spirit…. I think Farmer or Shepherd should be a title like Mr or Dr!?

The hardship and sadness of this sort of agricultural life isn't seen in either the labor or its continuance; it's seen in the economic marginality and ultimate collapse brought about by systems and authorities negligent and/or downright hostile to its existence. A wry joke well understood by generations of farmers is that the income returned to their efforts will always be just low enough to guarantee that few will be able to achieve an enviably stable existence, otherwise everyone would want to do it. Alternatively, the option is to industrialize production to such degree as to create hellish, sub-humane conditions for all the living beings involved, and profits for the capital managers behind the formation.

Until the advent of the motor car, or motor coaches for the non-wealthy, most people in the UK lived and died within 20 miles of where they were born. - Read Laurie Lee's "Cider With Rosie", bone-headedly re-titled "Edge of Day" in the USA.
