    Now if their was a sequel or even a DLC to this game, I would love for their to be a campaign where you get to play as your own customized Narehate. The story would be that you are just one of the many children that where experimented and exposed to the 6th layer by Bondrewd, and you miraculously escaped and are now trying your place in this vast unforgiving world. As a Narehate you are immune the curse of the abyss, but enemies are far more powerful and aggressive, and resources are more scarce to add an extra layer of difficulty.

    • @BacklogBattle

      That should be interesting as a companion piece to a future game! I do love the Cave Raiding parts of Deep in Abyss and the mode you suggest would complement and frame the CR parts in an interesting light

      Narehate's are not immune to the curse but they can see it and avoid that way so maybe you can see the curse in the game and see what areas are safe.

      @@phoenixdavis2935 yeah, came here to comment that. Not only would that be more accurate, I think it would be a lot more fun of a game element with a risk/reward system when you're, say, running from a monster and the safe way up is slower!

    This game looks both interesting and yet kind of strange at the same time. Licensed games especially based on anime generally tend to have issues translating the story from non interactive to interactive medium. This game does seem more on the unique side even if it is funny that the game gets better after you past the anime portions almost as if the game was better off being an original IP.

    • @BacklogBattle

      I wouldn't say it would be better off as an original IP, but rather a game should not follow the story. Especially if the developers can not afford to purchase the license for the music or voice actors. We have the anime for the main story and it does such a damn good job that it's a futile effort to try to match or top it.
      That's why I think Deep in Abyss mode is great. We get a bit of a glimpse in the everyday life of a cave raider who doesn't have the most OP sentient weapon known and unknown to mankind assisting them. We also get to see a bit more of other characters we shortly met in the anime like Laffi and Habo. Also a bit more of Leader is always nice although he's more or less just a quest giver.
      The best thing about Made in Abyss is the story is defined just as much, if not more so by its setting rather than characters. So the setting makes it super easy to write any number of original stories as long as it involves a giant pit with relics and dangerous monsters and a curse that affects you when you ascend that progressively gets worse the lower you go.

      And that's the problem with anime games right there. The lore in canon doesn't really allow for a good video game. Hunter X Hunter as both a faithful adaptation or an original story would make for a TERRIBLE game.

    I think the "hello abyss" is like an introduction to the anime/manga and the lore of the world, while the "deep abyss" is the real game like you pointed out. I am still unsure if I will get it because it still interest me

      If it was an introduction as you say, it’s too detailed of an introduction that it spoils some emotional moments in the anime, robbing people of the gravitas of each scene. It’s why I described it more as a summary than anything else!

  • @Road_to_Dawn
    @Road_to_Dawn Год назад

    You did it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
    It’s interesting that you say the Hello Abyss mode seems like it was tacked on, because I would think it’d be the other way around. I think labeling it as a tutorial as you did puts the prospective player in the right headspace for that. It’s disappointing that it doesn’t do a good job telling the established story, and it’s odd that it doesn’t even cover the whole first season. It sounds like it ends when Riko and Reg leave the Seeker Camp? Regardless, I’m even more excited to play the real meat of the game now, and I’ll for sure be getting it as soon as I get my next paycheck!
    The hunger meter seems smartly implemented because an interesting continuing aspect of the source material is Riko talking about food and recipes, not only that food is a typical survival game mechanic, and it also ties into the nausea aspect of the Curse. I’m really curious to see how all of the game’s mechanics work together for myself.
    Thanks again, Alex! I really appreciate the work you put into this.
    Update: Ok, after playing through most of the Hello Abyss portion, it makes a lot of sense that they stopped that story after the Seeker Camp. That’s when Riko and Reg get their training, and it also only gets you down to the second layer so you have a good idea what to expect with how layers can differ while still keeping layers 3 and below a surprise for the player.

Look at the time it took between season 1 and the season after the 3rd movie and that's roughly how long it'll take for a new season. The Mangaka is REALLY detailed in his art style, so it takes him far longer to create new pages.

    This game is like 70% there. Made in abyss has such a good chance of being turned into a game that is done well. I haven't play BSFID but I can see the potential it has. The series was designed like a videogame so if they can make more varied gameplay then it would be much better. Is it just me or do a lot of Japanese-made games have kind of clunky movement, I feel like there is never a real representation of physics in these types of games, and its very common in JRPGs. I just fail to see where adding more visual flare and fluidity in character movement hurts the experience. If anything it just makes something that's already good just look better, even if it's not totally necessary, but then again the studios involved clearly don't have an interest in pushing that forward. This type of game would really benefit from more fluidity in character movement and visuals. I would still play this title though because I absolutely adore MIA.

    Hello Abyss should either be skippable or removed entirely. It does a horrible job as a tutorial considering most of the mechanics are absent. Also if i remember right Riko's pickaxe has infinite durability. Its entirely possible to lose all methods of attack in Deep In Abyss which will catch you completely off guard.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  Год назад

      Riko’s pickaxe does have infinite durability. However, getting the materials to make another pickaxe doesn’t require you to defeat enemies, so you could still keep making them. After a couple of hours in playing Deep in Abyss, I had enough parts to make at least 4
      That said, I agree that Hello Abyss shouldn’t have been in the game

      @@BacklogBattle Don't you need animal bones and stone? Stone can be got without a weapon but im not sure about bones. Then again i only use hatchets. Maybe bows or guns don't need enemy drops.

      @vla1ne Год назад

      @@deadlydance2965 you do need both, and bone requires you to kill something, but one of the (imo best) things about the game is that is is *more* than willing to let you get in over your head, as often as you like. you can take it slow, and learn how every layer operates, or you can run as far down as possible, killing everything like a madman, and risking losing everything via game over/giving up.

    This game is kinda a let down for me. Like, when it was announced I didn't think much of it. Anime games are not ussually very good. I'm a big fan of the anime and I always imagined how cool a game of it could be. But at the same time that it would never happen. I always imagined or you playing as Reg and using all his cool stuff or making your own cave rider. This game got the second option, but still the first one is such a chame. Having to play the terrible re telling of the story and as Riko is really a slog. This could have been so much more. But I kinda knew if it ever happened it wouldn't be

    I bought the collector's edition on Switch and absolutely love the game. I don't personally care about game reviews. If I like what I see, I buy the game. Why would anyone listen to a bunch of strangers opinions? Decide for yourself. For me, itd an incredible game. Very challenging. You have to be extremely patient. And the Reg bug doesn't even really matter if he gets stuck on things because he's only in the tutorial. Not a big deal.

I've battled and battled and have learned how to play this game without too many deaths. I really love the game and have about 80 hours so far played. Excellent game imo. Definitely could use a patch and some fixes though.

    I think people should always watch the source before playing a game based on it. People shouldn't play the Naruto storm games a replacement for the anime.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  Год назад

      I think there's varying degrees here. I generally am okay with recommending people to certain licensed games if the game itself does something different (i.e. an original story) or tells the story just as well as the source material.
      That said, it's a rarity, given that many Japanese games based on anime licenses are given instructions by the licensors to purposely ensure that whatever is in the game doesn't become a replacement for other media, which isn't great. They're afraid that if the games do better than the anime that there's no reason for us to watch the anime, cannibalizing the brand. I don't believe in that perspective at all.
