Pied piper is the story of the man who could charm anything and anyone with his flute. They’re admitting to being our pied pipers, they know they charm us all, but at the same time they burn us by reminding us we have a life, we have work or studies, that we need to focus on our lives but at the same time, they still want us to be charmed by them.
Great explanation! I'm so sick of people calling this a diss track! This song is their way of saying that they know how we are, they love us and need us, but we need to keep a balance in our lives.

lizzy's mom it kinda is a diss track but not in a bad way, they have many obsessive fans to the point they cant use public flights anymore, ppl who follow them everywhere they go , taking pics when they are asleep or ... and there are many teenagers who really get too obsessed and neglect their life , this song is how they are concerned obout this effects.
Namjoon actually wrote Dimple and revealed in his live that he felt sad that it was given to the vocal line, the ones who don't have dimples 😂😅 he was so salty then 😂 in the chorus, he actually wrote, "so I call you illegirl" not illegal girl like what was in the translation. I wish they put that there tho, cause that was a genius pun.
And in Pied Piper, idk if you noticed, but it's basically a song they wrote for ARMY, saying we should somehow strike a balance between our fawning over them and our real life. If you go back to check Joon's lines, he said "your parents and your boss hate me. Analyze the video later and start studying for your test." but at the same time, they also sang about how they need us too. It's an amazing song tbh. 😊
And I guess everyone else has pointed it out, there are a lot of male ARMYs too. John Cena, Ansel Elgort (or at least he, Joon and Tae are friends), Jimmy Fallon, Matthew McConaughey, and there are a few others I forgot 😅

A take on K-pop’s rampant and highly profitable fan culture, “Pied Piper,” is BTS doing what they do best: addressing a societal problem through their jaunty music. In this case, the obsessive nature of fans, originally derived from “fanatics.”
In line with the band's career-long focus on urging their youthful audience to pursue its own dreams, the boy band’s mellow nu-disco-imbued track serves as a playful reminder to ARMY that a boy band isn’t life's be-all and end-all. In an industry dependent on the taste and affections of its audience, BTS’ frank approach to the dangers and realities of the intense dedication from fans and the band’s role as a distraction in those people’s lives, is as contradictory as the group has ever been towards its place in pop music.
“Now stop watching and study/ Your parents and bosses hate me,” says RM in the first verse, referring to the time that fans spend absorbing BTS related content and how it distracts from their daily lives. “I know you don’t decide what you like/ stop [and] interpret the music videos later.”
Filled with lyrical tough love, warm affection is audible through the soft melody and the lighthearted delivery of the raps, turning the song away from being a bitter clap back and into a guiding ode from BTS to their fans, overflowing with paternal tenderness.
Penned by three members of the group -- Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope -- their company’s CEO “Hitman” Bang and several other regular collaborators, the lyrics are rife with nods to the German legend of the titular Pied Piper who led the children of Hamelin away from their parents forever as BTS poise themselves as an alluring danger that is “taking over you.”
"Follow the sound of the pipe/ Follow this song/ It's a little bit dangerous but I'm so sweet" sings the band during the chorus. "I came to save you, I came to ruin you.”
The track similarly refers to the Biblical tale of the Garden of Eden, with the band depicting themselves both as paradise and as the fruity temptation that led Adam and Eve away from the straight and narrow.
The literary references are nothing new for BTS. Fans have discerned references to works by the likes of Herman Hesse and Haruki Murakami in the band’s past music videos and songs. But the message of “Pied Piper,” with the group positioning itself as a danger to its fans, is unlike anything that the boy band and few other K-pop acts, have ever done before.

i just want to reiterate that although the majority of army who show up to the airport, and public events are definitely women and young women, there is A LOT of men and non-binary folk in the mix who just arent as visible.
lets not classify the biggest fandom in the world pls (: you don't get to the level bts is at by only having fangirls in the mix.

mowow it’s also important to mention that while a large majority of fans ARE female, there’s a decent portion of female fans that aren’t attracted to men at all! one of my favourite parts of being an army has been getting to interact with such a diverse group of people in terms of their identity 💜

pied piper is based off the folktale about the pied piper of Hamelin. townspeople hired a rat catcher to lure away the mice that had overrun their village. He did, except the citizens of Hamelin cheated the man out of his payment. So the man-a “pied” piper-returned a year later and lured their children away, too. BTS is basically like that to their fans too. They are the “pied piper” while ARMYs are the children being lured away by the sound of their music. im really surprised how few know this story since its really famous where i life i heard that tale plenty of times as a child so i had to laugh when i saw where you thoughts went lol

i will say that pied piper is a very sexy and playful song and i love that bts can express these different sides and they know their appeal but also they have a lot of lgbtq+ fans by the way lmao sjsj so a lot of guys too and not all the ladies. also ace/aro fans exist and many are not attracted in that way to them and those who do find them attracitve (like myself) don't necessarily like them /because/ of that. so yes, it is not such a big deal but those comments in every video are kinda annoying and a bit mocking, especially since you yourself said you have mostly a female audience.

As a Korean I feel like I need to mention that sometimes, the way songs are translated come off a bit more sexual sounding or just different from what it originally was.
This is ESPECIALLY true for Pied Piper with some translations (this one was a better one), some translations are a bit misleading with the use of female pronouns during the song (which there are none) and the “pipe” line comes off sounding a bit weird.
Don’t get me wrong, Pied piper is definitely a more provocative (for lack of a better word) Bts song, as it’s aimed at fans directly
However the line “you’re not being punished” for example, sounds a bit more 😏 in English. Technically speaking, it’s not wrong, but the way it’s used in Korean is a bit different (more innocent)
The best tip for not misunderstanding lyrics is to go with context. I don’t think Bts would use “pipe” as an innuendo any time soon (at least I don’t think so) the title itself is the best context you can get in this case, so, just think of Bts as the Pied Piper
Bts very rarely uses direct pronouns, and with the Korean language you often completely drop pronouns (you’re supposed to understand who something is directed towards through the context of a conversation) it’s in most of their older songs that they use direct pronouns
Sorry for the long comment but I hope this is helpful for the future
I’ve seen quite a couple songs where the translations were a bit off and were interpreted a bit weirdly, but context is your best friend when trying to understand lyrics in another language (by context I mean cultural and conceptual context)

What people haven't understand about "Pied Piper" is that it was a called out to armys to start thinking about themselfs (the song is part of the first album that started the love yourself series, the same year they announced they will stop receiving gifts for fans because they want them to spend their money on themselfs) but also is about how they are in the same position as us 😂 like we cannot live without eachother

the pied piper song is based on this German folk tale, der rattenfanger von hameln man who enchants everyone with the sweet sound of his pipe so that they follow him wherever he goes. they take on the role of the piper which is why they say follow the sound of this pipe. they are singing directly to Army (and snatching our hearts😂) . this is from a muster concert which are concerts for fans that are apart of the official fanclub. muster means a special gathering of troops. these are special concerts where they choose songs that are special to Army and them they even play games and put on skits for the fans.
”Pied piper” is from an old children’s tale about a piper who got revenge on a town by luring away their children with the sound of his pipe. The song is about how bts is taking over armys’ lives, luring us away with the sound of their music, and how they wish we would focus on our own lives too.

Lol pied piper is so confident the sexiness is off the CHARTS. They are referring an old folk tale of a piper (plays a flute like instrument) that lured children away from the village with his sweet melodies. Now it’s a metaphor of course, army represents the children in the sense that we can be lured away by the beautiful sounds of BTS, the pied piper. But what’s so poetic about the song is the added acknowledgement that the pied piper (aka BTS) is nothing without the “children” it calls to itself (aka ARMY). It’s a real tongue in cheek ode to our relationship. RM is a cheeky one! Acknowledging it’s own dangers of obsession while still rewarding us for being whisked away. ain’t nothing sexier than the forbidden fruit 😘
