@@abeer6486 in the manga Ash is confirmed dead yes,but in the anime,it's not confirmed,take a look at the official chart for banana Fish characters,the ones who are dead have no color,the ones with colors are alive,keep in mind this is the UPDATED version so they didn't mess it up,Ash has colors on his picture,he is not dead,he is alive.

I think it’s actually better that he’s dead, I feel like this was actually a good thing. He’s faced too much, he’s tired, he never asked to be a gang leader, or a child prostitution. Yes he could have lived, but I think it’s both sad and good that he finally rested, he died on his own accord despite the fact he could have gone to the hospital. I like to think of it as a wounded lynx finally curling up in the corner, content and at peace with the words Eiji left for him, and shutting his eyes to go into a restful slumber.

Letting ya'll know that in the manga he died but in the anime the director didn't like how it ended so that's why it ended like that in the manga, it's basically your own choice if Ash is alive or not, letting all of you know.

I'm still not sure what it is about this anime that makes me cry so hard, maybe it's because of the fact I associate with the characters, maybe it's because I just don't wanna say goodbye to this anime, maybe it's because I can't handle the fact that ash really did die, maybe it's because eiji and ash never really got to be together, maybe it's that they never got a proper goodbye, and I know how that feels, losing someone without being able to have any last words. or it's just that this anime was really well written that all of us have been affected, maybe not in the same way, probably none of us are affected by this the same way, but what's important is that we were affected, and that this did invoke emotions in us. I love this show with all my heart 💔

Even if I wanted to convince myself that his alive, we can’t change the fact that he’s dead. All I can say to myself is that he feels no pain now. And Eiji will meet him soon in heaven. Sa-yo-na-ra to them is not goodbye, to them it means “I’ll be with you soon, just wait.” That’s why when ash is badly hurt he didn’t do anything, cuz he know that he’ll meet Eiji again soon, and by that time comes nobody can pull them apart again. This anime want us to realize that this is a cruel world, but in the end we’ll find peace.

I just finished banana fish and I watched it because I haven’t been able to cry or feel sadness for a little while now and while this show was very sad, it didn’t make me cry. I accepted reality at a young age and accepted that people die and you have to get over it, but I wish I didn’t do that. Watching this show does me me sad but it still didn’t make me cry. Ash is dead, and they will never go to Japan together, I guess I accepted it right when it happened

I finished weeks ago and I’m still not over it. You’ll never completely be over it, just somewhat come to terms with it but still be in constant denial until you make up your own happy ending but always know it isn’t real because nothing is real so why are you even upset but then you remember Ash deserved better and how Eiji frickin said all that stuff when he was like “This isn’t goodbye. Can’t wait to see you again.” He let himself die so Eiji wouldn’t be caught in the crossfire ever again. The most peaceful yet brutal thing I’ve ever heard.

In my opinion, I’m pretty sure that Ash is not dead. He was so close to being happy with Eiji at the end but then chose to “die” peacefully by a stab wound? No, Ash can’t die from a stab wound if he didn’t die from all the other bigger and more dangerous wounds he has experienced. Yes he could’ve died from blood lose but I have a feeling he didn’t. In the manga Ash died, but in the Anime the director didn’t like how sad it came out so he decided to leave it like that for you to decide if he’s dead or not. He’s not dead.

Actually reading the lyrics has me in tears.. watching this anime has changed my life but at the same time I wish I never watched it..
I feel like ash didn't die because if you look at the intro in the show towards the end you can see ash walking home hurt, you could also see him holding his side, and he's wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he got stabbed ( Well im mainly talking about the coat)
Also in end when he gets stabbed its starts snowing, and in the intro like I was saying when hes walking home I suppose? its snowing, so this is just my theory if that even makes sense

The realization that Ash wouldn't have gone dow without a fight hits hard at 2 am. He's a man who knows how to survive, and he would've if he wanted to. Instead, he decided this was the best for him and Eiji, and chose to go peacefully; a death he most likely never saw coming because he always believed he would die in the middle of a war. I just wish he could've at least visited Japan with Eiji.
