Also if you want to save time you could try watering a tray with the perforated pots inside, makes life much easier. I know it's only like 10min to water but it's kind of a pain to have to bend over and water 1 by 1. Best regards!
I do the same but I use small solar fountain pumps. They work like a charm and only like $30. I just face the solar panels East so the pumps only run for like 2 hours before shade turns them off

Nice, works using what you have to make water delivery. Gravity works too lol your tables aren't too high so the barrel could be hooked up above tables but below the roof and then gravity fed watering Just a thought. Cheers

It is so fun to tinker with. Once we have the drip lines, etc in place and have everything planted, I’m gonna add in a timer to hopefully fully automate things. I also have plans to put in misters for seed starting in the small greenhouse. Lotsa fun!
@@Wilderstead We have timers here, and it's great (2 zones so far). Ours is from the well, but would be totally applicable. We also have a valve in the house that turns on 5 min before the sprinklers, and turns off 5 min after the sprinklers so a leaky pipe shouldn't drain the well overnight!
Like ur solar pump set up there eh! Would ur pump be able to pump up to a water tower set up then have a hose that u could use gravity to water ur plants?
I’m sure it could, but not necessary. I’d be pumping out of the pond into a tank on a tower, then walking around watering from that. Pump was upgraded late this summer, I’ll have to do a new video showing the new setup this year.

What an awesome setup! I'm trying to work out what to do with a market garden irrigation system. Do you filter the pond water at all or see a situation where you'd need to filter it between the pond and the veggies?

There are plenty of affordable 12v/24v pumps that pull 8-17/5-10 amps for around €150 ($176) you can connect straight to the solar panels or to a battery or two in series if you're afraid of days bad weather.
Hi I just read your comment do I have to have a well ect to do this I am off grid at moment I do have a tiny spring it does dry up in 2 months. I was thinking of putting a large plastic pond would any of this help ? Dies it matter what watt solar panel one uses thanks
Great video on solar irrigation. Very similar to what I want to do. I have a pond to use to drip irrigate my vegetable garden. But do you know if I can use a 12V pump rather than a 110V pump, thus eliminating the need for an inverter? If so, might a single 100 watt panel be sufficient? Thanks.
You could run a 12 volt pump provided it has enough flow for your needs. The panel(s) you choose is going to depend on your battery bank and the amount of power the pump uses. You probably won’t be able to run the pump just off the panel, you’ll need batteries.

Wilderstead I hear you there. We have been clearing some brush and trees where we want to build our sugar shack and it’s way to hot and the black flies are not helping.
That’s the flow you’re going to get out of a 1/4 HP pump on a 70 ft hose, whether plugged into an inverter or into the wall. I’ve run the pump using both. No difference. And exactly the pressure we need for our drip lines and soaker hoses. What’s your setup look like?
That was an option. But having the solar and the pump allows us to automate a drip irrigation system later in the year. This was we can add a timer in for automatic daily watering.

Little systems like this are awesome for fiddling around with solar stuff man. Dig into it!
You do not need a pump. Just use a hose. All the containers will stay equal automatically due to siphon action.

You could set things up without it. Just bits and pieces we had here that all worked nicely together.

Yes to both! Main thing up here is to start those particular seeds very early. January and February.

Note that a lot of this could be automated. Digital water timers exist (AA batteries) along with mechanical (no electricity at all) water timers.

Wow that pond looks like a mosquito magnet
The frogs and dragonflies keep the bugs down. The rivers and swamps and vernal pools here are more of a mosquito 'magnet' than anything else.
