I've been trying out different "what if?" scenarios to see if anything changes in the game. From what I learned, not visiting Impa causes the following; -Farosh and Dinraal do not spawn in the game. Naydra can be encountered and purified of malice, but afterwards they won't spawn. -The ancient tech labs are unavailable, alongside the ability to light the Ancient furnace in front of the labs. Robbie and Jerrin are absent from the lab, but Purah and Simon are there with some alternate dialogue that recommends you to see Impa. -Zelda gives context after the first Divine Beast cutscene. -No memories will appear or activate due to the absence of Sheika slate upgrades. Funny story - I actually was one of the people who had an "off the path" natural moment like this. I went straight to the Zora domain on my first run without ever encountering a Zora on my way there (the fact I was supposed to use pathways and roads didn't sink in until much later in the run). When I went to tell my friends about it, they were all shocked and told me I got a special cutscene. They told me to go back and follow the path before the bridge... I was surprised. Lol. The game incorporates these things so well it often doesn't occur to you that you even missed anything to begin with.
I found out there's actually 3 possible scenarios with Sidon resulting in different cutscenes each time. 1) you talk to him on the bridge & follow the path, 2) you talk to him on the bridge then make it to Zora's Domain without using the path, and 3) you avoid him & make it to Zora's Domain on your own. Really neat tbh
I still remember getting to zora's domain without meeting Sidon and they have a pretty cool interaction via cutscene as well. Really adds to the "freedom" of the open world genre that many games lack.

Did you know you there are 2 cutscenes for Zora’s domain? The first one is meeting Sidon by Lanayru tower and following him up to the domain. The second cutscene happens when you take the back way to the domain [glide from Akkala tower to the ledge on the mountain side (I believe its Ploymus Mountain), it will start raining when you land so use Revali’s gale to get to the top, then climb down the mountain to the domain]. The cutscene shows Sidon telling you visitors are not currently welcome to the domain until he realizes your Hylian. The conversation with the Zora king is also different. Edit: After reading comments apparently everyone knows this. 🤷♀️
Does she say this exact thing if you get to any of the four divine beasts before speaking with Impa? Or does she say something slightly different depending on which divine beast you encounter before seeing Impa?
If you get all four Impa will go through the explanation and then end by saying something like: "Oh! You already freed them all." There is a video on it somewhere.
I noticed this on my fourth playthrough. I figured I didn’t need to see impa as I already knew where to go but was surprised by this extra cutscene. The amount of detail in this game is incredible.
I got my switch in 19, and BOTW a few months later, so I'd seen a lot of content. Still, like always, I played through by the quest, and it was a lot of fun. Once done, I spent several months doing side quests, getting all shrines, all koroks (I won't do that again) and more, so I'd show 100% on the map. That was a good feeling, but then, as I didn't have other games to play that were as enthralling, I started playing out of order. The scene with Impa if you have the sword and all 4 beasts, the 4 "city managers" (or whatever) recognize the sword if you have it, it's amazing the amount of thought that went into this game. Also, the guy that tries to stop you jumping by Bosh Kala is based on a real person who has saved A LOT of lives in San Fransisco, and there's even a character (loosely?) based on Robin Williams in the game, as he loved it so much he named his daughter Zelda. You just don't see games this well thought out any more.
This really was a special game. Will say - with TOTK (spoilers to follow.....) ..... Spoilers..... Ok you were warned. With TOTK, I didn't like how they repeated the story after the temples. BOTW had so much thought behind each possibility. TOTK is still awesome but the small details they tried in the early days of the Switch were stunning.
There’s a bunch of little things they do to compensate for people doing things out of order. For example there’s different dialog if you enter Zoras domain without meeting Sidon at all
Without a majority of the player-base even realizing, BOTW was able to account for nearly every sequence break possible in the game and seamlessly incorporate some way to acknowledge it (Zelda’s “in case you missed impa” voiceover, Sidon’s surprise if you make it to Zora’s Domain before he ever finds you, etc.) Now THAT’S game design!!! Makes me wonder if we’ll ever know all the possible alternate scenes, given that there were some secrets in Wind Waker that weren’t found for nearly a decade after release!
after i restarted the game i tried to do a lot of things "out of order" just to see. i got to zoras domain without interacting with sidon, i didnt do any of the divine beasts and just went to the ganon fight. but the one that took THE most effort was getting the master sword, defeating all divine beasts, completely filling in my hearts and stamina all before meeting impa. i HIGHLY ENCOURAGE everyone to do something different in each playthrough because each time is a different experience. currently im getting 999 of all items i can possibly get before going after any of the divine beasts
It’s one thing to give your player the freedom to complete any task in the game in any order. It’s another to program in extra content for each possible scenario. I wish I could play this game for the first time again so badly 😭
They really did want this to be as open world as possible, ensuring that even if you don't meet Impa you need some background, so screw it, let's throw in some explanation for the guy who didn't follow instructions lol

There is also a unique cutscene for encountering your first lionel on top of zoras domain during the quest
Actually… I think I remember both. Pretty sure I waited for Impa in master mode but had forgot that Zelda said nothing in Normal Mode.
I like the idea of Link first going to Impa after having already freed all 4 beasts and obtaining the master sword
Daruk: I was gonna say that!
Wait, I was supposed to go to Impa first? I kinda just dicked around until a mermaid told me to go to Zora's domain and I followed it.
Wow beautiful detail
This really was a special game. Will say - with TOTK (spoilers to follow.....) ..... Spoilers..... Ok you were warned. With TOTK, I didn't like how they repeated the story after the temples. BOTW had so much thought behind each possibility. TOTK is still awesome but the small details they tried in the early days of the Switch were stunning.

There’s a bunch of little things they do to compensate for people doing things out of order. For example there’s different dialog if you enter Zoras domain without meeting Sidon at all
Look how they made sure not to freeze the game during Zelda's voice-over to save time for the speedrunners!
This actually happened to me the first time because I was determined to play the game in the most random order I could
Nintendo literally thought of everything before launching the game
Amazing detail! I didnt noticed it till now
never noticed this before, great video as always
Without a majority of the player-base even realizing, BOTW was able to account for nearly every sequence break possible in the game and seamlessly incorporate some way to acknowledge it (Zelda’s “in case you missed impa” voiceover, Sidon’s surprise if you make it to Zora’s Domain before he ever finds you, etc.) Now THAT’S game design!!! Makes me wonder if we’ll ever know all the possible alternate scenes, given that there were some secrets in Wind Waker that weren’t found for nearly a decade after release!
I wonder what happens if you find Yunobo first and then talk to Bluto.
after i restarted the game i tried to do a lot of things "out of order" just to see. i got to zoras domain without interacting with sidon, i didnt do any of the divine beasts and just went to the ganon fight. but the one that took THE most effort was getting the master sword, defeating all divine beasts, completely filling in my hearts and stamina all before meeting impa. i HIGHLY ENCOURAGE everyone to do something different in each playthrough because each time is a different experience. currently im getting 999 of all items i can possibly get before going after any of the divine beasts
It’s one thing to give your player the freedom to complete any task in the game in any order.
It’s another to program in extra content for each possible scenario.
I wish I could play this game for the first time again so badly 😭
I had noticed that too. I have a tendency to go towards my first divine beast (which is usually Medoh) before seeing Impa.
I would have loved to hear that in my playthrough, great job on the voice acting right there
"I believe in you, link"
Shit, **I** believe in 3 heart link climbing death mountain
They really did want this to be as open world as possible, ensuring that even if you don't meet Impa you need some background, so screw it, let's throw in some explanation for the guy who didn't follow instructions lol
You quite literally learn something new about this game everyday-
This game is so well done ... When I hear things about "BOTW like games", I know they are already wrong because of the amount of details and underlying things there are in this game ..!
I actually noticed this on my current playthrough, where I went straight to Vah Medoh instead of Impa.
I've played this game 10 times, even did a speedrun (which I did not succeed at, it took me 3 hours LOL) where I ignored impa and did not notice that. This game will always be my favorite
Oh wow its so cool after all these years there are still so many cool details
It's amazing how much detail Nintendo added to this game. I'm replaying this game for the 4th time as I'm writing and God damn this is one of the best games I've ever played in my life. Can't wait for botw 2
To this day, there’s more things to learn. I love it.
Oh, I did this with the bird divine beast in my playthrough. Totally forgot this happened until this video
Wow I didn't know there was a cutscene if you didn't see Impa first. Now I've seen a cutscene I never have before!
When I was not seeking Impa I went to Kara Kara Bazaar and after naboris made those sounds Zelda told me the same thing
I remember I accidentally got this when I first played BOTW!
“I believe in you Link”
Try saying that in a world like Attack on Titan.
I was confused as hell the first time i saw a gigantic mechanich bird in the sky and then Zelda started talking while i just wanted to Rise my horse
link skipping impa speedrun just to have more self esteem to beat the divine beasts
I did that on accident. I wandered around, got caught up in the game, and got lost so I forgot I was supposed to be looking for Impa. Next thing I know I’m in Zora Domain
I never knew about this! Tbf, I've always just spoken to Impa, but still
