I b the 80 year young 'Ol Ed mentioned at the end of the video and I had one of the best adventures any guy with the amount of Earthwalk Time I have accumulated could possibly have. // Thanx Linda and crew, and thanx Zack for allowin' me in yer terrific video. // Oh yeah, my beautiful and talented wife, Rebecca, now actually - & FINALLY - believes I DO ride my bike when I leave for a weekend. 😈
That is a highly underrated part of California. Major Central/Eastern Oregon vibes there with the forests and volcanoes, epic scenery, and much less crowded than most famous areas of the state. And don't forget the seemingly endless maze of gravel roads there...
Thanks for coming Zack and riding in our spectacular forest. Your video quality is top notch and made me feel so proud of our inaugural event. Lassen Land and Trails Trust, Susanville Area Bicycle Association and Bizz Running Company Productions can't thank you enough for your glowing review. We will be back next year for round two on Saturday, Sept 7th, 2024.
Even before riding, I could tell that everyone behind this event was sitting on something special and was eager to share this great experience. What a top-notch day and just think of all the great memories passed on! Thank you for letting us be a part.
I’m in a Gravel Bike California video! 😂 So fun to meet you Zack! And 80 year old Ed was the coolest. I camped next to him the night before and learned so much about him. What an inspiration he is. Thanks for all the work you do to show off our amazing state.
Appreciate the video. Susanville is home in my heart, and seeing video of it's beauty, even now that I live in another state, is a good reminder of "home"
Thank you for your wonderful recap that helped me relive one of my best days on the bike. The great history lesson is post event icing on the cake. Good to meet up with you again. Already looking forward to a return trip 👍🏽
A couple years ago, I went way out of my way to go to Susanville to ride the Bizz Johnson Trail. Got 8 miles into it, and trail was closed to clear fire damage. I was so bummed, and haven't been able to get back up that way.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia and you are from CA. I drove up there special from Palo Alto, and then had to drive back home to Mississippi. I almost ignored the sign, but the fines and penalties for getting caught in the keep out zone were just too high.

Loved how that ride ended. Just people biking in beautiful places. Hope to see you out there soon.

I wish I could get a one month fellowship to just explore...
Nice recap. One correction to make though - the burn scar is from the 2020 Hog Fire, not the Dixie.
Thanks for the note.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia and a related correction, you accidentally say the Dixie fire was 2011, it was 2021. great vid so just a note for others
'extending my streak of two syllable roads'-- love it
These things pop up when you edit as long as I do..

Such a fantastic community that just doubles the experience.
As an Oregon graveller looking for new areas to ride this was awesome. Thank you so much for posting! 🤘🤘
It's a must do.
Lassen NP is my favorite NP. Such a great area. Thank you for highlighting it.
I drove through there without time to stop last year and wanted more of the experience this time. Such a great supplement to the event.
Awesome video! Looks like I'm going to have another reason to visit the family next year and bring my gravel bike with me.
It's a no-brainer.
Appreciate the video. Susanville is home in my heart, and seeing video of it's beauty, even now that I live in another state, is a good reminder of "home"
It's one of my all-timers.
Another GREAT video Zack! You're LEGEND my friend. Thanks so much for all your work and the stoke you are always willing to share.
Just happy to be part of this experience.
Great recap, Zach - excellent video and histocrical coverage as always.
Thanks! My B-roll footage would have made an incredible video too I had so much great stuff.
Thanks for the vid! It is inspiring me to pay another visit. Riding and getting to know a place, a perfect match.
It's a hall of famer for a reason

Never got to ask...how was that shirt?
@@GravelBikeCalifornia - Two thumbs up. I bought one and after I wore it for the first time I went right home and bought another.
I rode this Westwood to Susanville and then back in 97
Great ride
One of my all time favorites
Great recap as always, thanks! This course was such a pleasant surprise, looking forward to next year!
I came for the Bizz Johnson Trail, but the rest of the riding was great too!!
Loved the sasquach joke!
Lucky it was a joke...this time...
Definitely going to be on the calendar for next year! Thanks for the recap!
YASSS!!! Super great ride.
Another awesome guide man great stuff
One of the all-times...
Awesome video, thanks for sharing the experience.

I've always wanted to go, but a bit far for me to try without knowing what was out there. Definitely LGAR puts it in its proper context.

Great content. I liked and sub’d. Can you share your Strava or Ride w gps routes?
Always in the descriptions. You can find our complete map at: gravelbikecalifornia.com/california-gravel-guides/
@gravel bike California. What size gravel tires do you recommend for the Half Squatch course?
I think 40 is right. The Bizz Johnson is in great shape and everything else comes out to very good.
Looks awesome...do you have a link for the event for next year?
I don't think it's live yet, but will add it to our calendar page when ready. They're holding a trail marathon on it this weekend.
