i absolutely ADORE the invisible person and the one with the yellow eyes. they way that theyre just sorta chill with our girl. the fact that they seem to be the only two genuinely concerned when Selene grabs her. i love them so much already
My understanding of the situation is that Queen Selene (based on the hidden video's cypher) has a habit of snatching up supernatural entities and containing them within her realm. Maybe they were looking for Void/Olive and that last portal was an attempt to pull her in?
I actually have a theory. During the song all the Dusks main goal seemed to be creating as much fear and terror as possible with the exception of the witch ghost lady, yellow eyes, and the Invincible Man knockoff. This leads me to believe that the Dusks feed off fear in order to fuel their existence with the stronger Dusks needing more as they get more powerful thus they need to be more evil and sadistic in order to survive while the weaker ones can get away with pulling what are essentially scary pranks and by extension have more leeway in what they’re moral alignment is. As for the whole thing that happened with Queen Selune I have a theory that that there is a barrier between our world and the realm of Nightenveil with the only way through being quote, unquote “small” breaches in the fabric of reality with the stronger Dusks needing bigger and bigger portals in order to make it through. Yet another benefit of being a weaker Dusk. Maybe the barrier is weaker the closer it is to Halloween like in other pieces of media because spooky month. Which essentially means Halloween is an all you can eat buffet for these freaks so no wonder they love it so much. Anyway I’m getting off topic. Maybe bringing Queen Selune though the breach is some kind of benchmark for these guys. Maybe every time they launch the annual All Hallows Eve Fear Raid the barrier weakens and finally pulling their queen through was supposed to usher in an age of eternal night where the whole world would be there play ground which is why Queen Selune was so surprised when the sun came up. This is just a theory though.
Everyone here is thinking up big lore reasons on what the villains were trying to do meanwhile I'm content with the idea of tony the scarecrow suggesting they all party it up in the human world for Halloween because something something crows machinations and everyone just went along with it

Now this is one HELL of a Rogue's Gallery. Are all of the villains (and the protagonist) spooky themed? Because that is an Incredible vibe for a superhero thing.
Same dude, I also wish we knew their names… But holy cow, they seem to get along with Void, so this does lead to the question… Did they fight her before, or are they just bring friendly? I’m leaning towards them just being friendly personally because they do show up with the line “that’s our job, but we’re not mean.” So perhaps they care for her in some way? I mean they do look kinda worried when compared to everyone else in the frame with the dusk queen. Albright everyone else in the frame is a sliding stone owl, the Jersey devil, siren head but phone head, another invisible man but with no facial distinction, and a dude that seems to be laughing about the whole situation. 2:40 if anyone wants to see what I’m talking about.

This...this is a very important video,from a lore standpoint. First, it shows that the 'halloween at freddy's' video is in the same universe as this one. Minor, but still a cool detail. I also notice that this whole 'invasion' of the town was actually aimed at our heroine. To draw her attention, tire het her out with multiple crises, weaken her by making her face multiple of her villians back to back when they could have easily just all jumped her. The majority of them seem to just be playing around with the townsfolk, save for some of the more monstrous ones, and mister gasmask who legit looks like he killed a few people. Hell, even Crow just Taunts our heroine. And then, three of the villians are just...nice to her. Helping her out of the trashcan, talking to her, displaying no hostility. I interpret it as them trying to convert her. Maybe even explaining that their not evil, or at least, not all of them, encouraging her to at least widen her mentality about them. And then the end, where the giant moon lady shows up. Up untill know, I thought Crow was in control of them all, but this, paired with a certain short, has me questioning that. Though I did notice her absence in the final act when all the villains were surrounding our heroine and the moon lady. Maybe Crow and her share an equal position? Crow as a rouge element loyal to only herself? And at the end, it's made clear what the villians goals are, to me at least. They don't want to kill the heroine or take over the town, they want her. They want to capture or convert her. Now that I think about it, those orbs that float around her when using her powers look a lot like the portal the villains came out of... So to conlude, I think she's one of them. Either the daughter of moon lady, artificially implanted with shadow dimension being parts, or a shadow creature forced into the form of a human. Whatever she is, the shadow dimension people want her back. (Sorry for the wall of text, I just really like this world and it's characters and wanted to share my thoughts😅)
I feel like this was an introduction, a 'we are here' so that they can know that the monsters they thought were fake are real and they are just waiting for you to take one step into the shadows

Ohohoho! This was awesome! I absolutely loved to see all of the Dusk villains in full swing! I really jived with that clown monster design, too. SO many amazing designs jam packed into one video!
As someone said already, I want a lore video for all those people monster folks AAAAND I also want a commentary on how you come up with such cool designs! Some of them feel like something I would drawn too ksjsvaksbsn
The monsters picking up the protag and just moving on or walking side by side was great. Makes it feel as if there really is chaos and the hero is just a small speck among the ocean of trouble. Really well done.
Love that croc lookin dude and the motorcycle riding guitar player guy! Though all the designs were super cool. (Also it took me a couple rewatches but I did notice the yellow eyed girl getting mighty nervous when Olive looked over at her. I wonder what that’s about)
All of the villain designs are fantastic and I also love the quick cameo from the Boogeyman as the moon, a nice reference to Nightmare's Before Christmas
This was amazing! The whole animatic really carries the energy of the song well! And the monster designs are so fun. Also, my gay heart yearns to learn more about Queen Selene (Presuming she is the large lady with the moon on her face and i didnt pick the wrong name haha ) love her to bits.
WHY DO I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! If you could make a wiki, or some type of animated series for this, I'd love too see something along those lines! From what I've seen with the series premise so far, it's genuinely interesting!
That train bridge seems important, considering that that’s where a big portal has repeatedly manifested. Additionally, I’m curious how many Dusks are native to Nightingveil versus how many are altered/converted entities (like with Tony). Also all these designs are really neat. Both the designs of the Dusks, and the Halloween costumes of the humans.
I've been pondering this comment of yours for a few weeks now and I think I finally have an answer for your question. The ones we can clearly see are largely human by design are humans who turned into Dusks, the ones that're humanoid in appearance are likely the Nightingveil's attempt to make humans, and obviously the ones who aren't human looking at all are complete natives to the Nightingveil universe. *HUMANS TURNED DUSKS:* There's John the literal straw man, the skeleton gang who're likely the city's mafia during prohibition in the US, the blindfolded guy on the motorcycle driving hail marry to who knows where, the yellow eyed cat like person, the fella with the flaming head and axe for a hand, the redish orange eyed lady who can make copies of herself on anything reflective, the person with the umbrella and wings happily sitting on some clouds, the clock eyed fella on top of the clock tower who was most probably a former mayor of the city WAY back in the day. *HUMANOID DUSKS:* The little skeleton girl with a pumpkin Halloween basket filled with the souls of the damned, Slenderman for obvious reasons, the mummy who turned some poor guy's closet into a breeding den for their spiders, the giant guy in what appears to be an old run down scuba suit, the demented psych ward warden with a gas mask with one eye lens, the clown doll with the tear away face, the little witch girl who helped Void get out of the dumpster, the invisible man who's buddies with the yellow eyed cat person, the humanoid crocodile with a meat hook for a hand, and others I couldn't see well. *NATIVE NIGHTINGVEIL DUSKS:* There's obviously the moon queen lady who's in charge of everyone and CROW that creepy eldritch thing, the WAY over sized rat who ate a guy after luring em with a false dog, the owl statue thing, the guard dogs that accompany the demented warden, the over sized ant we see for a brief moment, and even more Dusks that I couldn't see. Yes I know that they all have names, don't worry; I just wanted to write this reply out quickly because my dog has been nonstop barking *ALL* night long and it's starting to drive me nuts.
Out of everyone in this rogues gallery the two that caught my eye were the invisible one and neon colored eyed characters at 2:06 since for the most part they seemed friendly with Olive and actually seem afraid of the Dusk Queen, like at 2:40 you see them and their expressions are of fear. I can totally see these two being the chill/comedic relief villains that Olive can have a conversation with. Honestly all the dusk designs are pretty good, I really love this rogues gallery and I kinda want to see/learn more about them. Also side note I LOVE Olive’s expressions with her mask on.
Did anyone else notice the change in the lyrics hidden in the subtitles if not then it changed the pumpkin song to the full moon song and skeleton jack to Queen Selene who I assume was the moon lady at the end

Are they trick or treating at 7 am? Ether these rouges took forever to get into town or they’re fighting all night, just for dusk queen to show up before banishing all of them back to the dusk world. Great designs maybe not great minions if their goal was to summon a big bad right before the sun (which I’m assuming weakens or even kills the dusk creatures) which I’m assuming wasn’t dusk queen’s plan because she (I’m assuming from the queen part) seems caught off guard by dawn. Or maybe she’s playing around with Olive like Crow, although the hidden lore vids seem to imply Crow and Dusk Queen are very different. Rant over, really love your work so far.
I’ve been rewatching this multiple times and I’m still amazed at how well you conveyed the Dusks. They all look unique and their designs work together with the song to show how scary they are to face off against. I’d love to see more from them in the future and you did an excellent job with this animatic.
After counting I’m pretty sure there is a total of 18 villains but only 17 helped since Crow just scared Olive by appearing on the moon. Pretty impressive rouges gallery
Also the devils train guy now has scarecrow powers because that just make it my favorite villain (after crow) PD the moon godess crown remind me at the darkest dungeon madness crown (she is more powerfull than crow?, that will be for very long?)
HOT DAMN this was amazing as hell to see showing a very fast paced montage of 20+ of your characters with unique and incredible designs and powers just came together so perfectly into a very beautiful introduction to the antagonists of your incredibly amazing world

Crow making a quick SPOOOOOOOOKYYYYYY cameo on the MOON'S SHADOW! Also I keep noticing how EXTREMELY similar the shadow of the moon in the movie looks to the OOGIE BOOGIE MAAAAAN and crow have been BOTH parts.... Maybe it's just a coincidence that both are perfect for her idk still this is AMAZING
MY FRIEND YOU HAD ME AT THIS IS HALLOWEEN! Just OMG I love this so much! I can’t help but get massive Danny Phantom vibes from this. Young teenage superhero with powers tied to the supernatural that only their two close friends/sister knows about facing off against a colorful rogues gallery of villains who are tied to the very same dimension they derive their powers from. I also love the detail of Crow showing up for Oogie’s part since you introduced her with Oogie Boogie’s song. That’s a fun touch. Great job as always Josh! Happy Halloween!

Honestly after checking the video again i think I found most of the characters in the pinned comment.....except for three, maybe four. The three that I couldn't find are Mr Static, Borealis and Ms Vulture. While the fourth is The Doorman, which is the door, but I also think his Bellhop form is the guy with no face at minute 2:38 who is between Drone and Bloom. Great video, great characters, great lore.
I want to see this animated series so bad. Every single villain/monster design is so interesting and dripping with personality that I just want to see them in action! And our hero seems so interesting and I want to learn more about how her story goes. Do you perchance have a webcomic for this superhero series? I adore how spooky it all is.

I’m leaning towards them just being friendly personally because they do show up with the line “that’s our job, but we’re not mean.” So perhaps they care for her in some way? I mean they do look kinda worried when compared to everyone else in the frame with the dusk queen. Albright everyone else in the frame is a sliding stone owl, the Jersey devil, siren head but phone head, another invisible man but with no facial distinction, and a dude that seems to be laughing about the whole situation.

LONG STORY SHORT I LOVE THIS WORLD AND THESE ANIMATIONS???? The world feels like it's got so much lore to it and the characters are really cool! Thank you for such a sick Halloween animatic!

This...this is a very important video,from a lore standpoint. First, it shows that the 'halloween at freddy's' video is in the same universe as this one. Minor, but still a cool detail.
I also notice that this whole 'invasion' of the town was actually aimed at our heroine. To draw her attention, tire het her out with multiple crises, weaken her by making her face multiple of her villians back to back when they could have easily just all jumped her. The majority of them seem to just be playing around with the townsfolk, save for some of the more monstrous ones, and mister gasmask who legit looks like he killed a few people. Hell, even Crow just Taunts our heroine.
And then, three of the villians are just...nice to her. Helping her out of the trashcan, talking to her, displaying no hostility. I interpret it as them trying to convert her. Maybe even explaining that their not evil, or at least, not all of them, encouraging her to at least widen her mentality about them.
And then the end, where the giant moon lady shows up. Up untill know, I thought Crow was in control of them all, but this, paired with a certain short, has me questioning that. Though I did notice her absence in the final act when all the villains were surrounding our heroine and the moon lady. Maybe Crow and her share an equal position? Crow as a rouge element loyal to only herself?
And at the end, it's made clear what the villians goals are, to me at least. They don't want to kill the heroine or take over the town, they want her. They want to capture or convert her. Now that I think about it, those orbs that float around her when using her powers look a lot like the portal the villains came out of...
So to conlude, I think she's one of them. Either the daughter of moon lady, artificially implanted with shadow dimension being parts, or a shadow creature forced into the form of a human. Whatever she is, the shadow dimension people want her back.
(Sorry for the wall of text, I just really like this world and it's characters and wanted to share my thoughts😅)

The monsters picking up the protag and just moving on or walking side by side was great. Makes it feel as if there really is chaos and the hero is just a small speck among the ocean of trouble.

Love that croc lookin dude and the motorcycle riding guitar player guy! Though all the designs were super cool. (Also it took me a couple rewatches but I did notice the yellow eyed girl getting mighty nervous when Olive looked over at her. I wonder what that’s about)

That train bridge seems important, considering that that’s where a big portal has repeatedly manifested. Additionally, I’m curious how many Dusks are native to Nightingveil versus how many are altered/converted entities (like with Tony).
Also all these designs are really neat. Both the designs of the Dusks, and the Halloween costumes of the humans.
I've been pondering this comment of yours for a few weeks now and I think I finally have an answer for your question.
The ones we can clearly see are largely human by design are humans who turned into Dusks, the ones that're humanoid in appearance are likely the Nightingveil's attempt to make humans, and obviously the ones who aren't human looking at all are complete natives to the Nightingveil universe.
*HUMANS TURNED DUSKS:* There's John the literal straw man, the skeleton gang who're likely the city's mafia during prohibition in the US, the blindfolded guy on the motorcycle driving hail marry to who knows where, the yellow eyed cat like person, the fella with the flaming head and axe for a hand, the redish orange eyed lady who can make copies of herself on anything reflective, the person with the umbrella and wings happily sitting on some clouds, the clock eyed fella on top of the clock tower who was most probably a former mayor of the city WAY back in the day.
*HUMANOID DUSKS:* The little skeleton girl with a pumpkin Halloween basket filled with the souls of the damned, Slenderman for obvious reasons, the mummy who turned some poor guy's closet into a breeding den for their spiders, the giant guy in what appears to be an old run down scuba suit, the demented psych ward warden with a gas mask with one eye lens, the clown doll with the tear away face, the little witch girl who helped Void get out of the dumpster, the invisible man who's buddies with the yellow eyed cat person, the humanoid crocodile with a meat hook for a hand, and others I couldn't see well.
*NATIVE NIGHTINGVEIL DUSKS:* There's obviously the moon queen lady who's in charge of everyone and CROW that creepy eldritch thing, the WAY over sized rat who ate a guy after luring em with a false dog, the owl statue thing, the guard dogs that accompany the demented warden, the over sized ant we see for a brief moment, and even more Dusks that I couldn't see.
Yes I know that they all have names, don't worry; I just wanted to write this reply out quickly because my dog has been nonstop barking *ALL* night long and it's starting to drive me nuts.

Out of everyone in this rogues gallery the two that caught my eye were the invisible one and neon colored eyed characters at 2:06 since for the most part they seemed friendly with Olive and actually seem afraid of the Dusk Queen, like at 2:40 you see them and their expressions are of fear. I can totally see these two being the chill/comedic relief villains that Olive can have a conversation with. Honestly all the dusk designs are pretty good, I really love this rogues gallery and I kinda want to see/learn more about them. Also side note I LOVE Olive’s expressions with her mask on.

It’s funny that none of them really tried too kill any of the humans like when the warden had people hanging by chains it was the other monsters
I love how the trick-or-treaters in the beginning were all dressed up as Gravity falls characters
Are they trick or treating at 7 am? Ether these rouges took forever to get into town or they’re fighting all night, just for dusk queen to show up before banishing all of them back to the dusk world. Great designs maybe not great minions if their goal was to summon a big bad right before the sun (which I’m assuming weakens or even kills the dusk creatures) which I’m assuming wasn’t dusk queen’s plan because she (I’m assuming from the queen part) seems caught off guard by dawn. Or maybe she’s playing around with Olive like Crow, although the hidden lore vids seem to imply Crow and Dusk Queen are very different. Rant over, really love your work so far.

I’ve been rewatching this multiple times and I’m still amazed at how well you conveyed the Dusks. They all look unique and their designs work together with the song to show how scary they are to face off against. I’d love to see more from them in the future and you did an excellent job with this animatic.

Young teenage superhero with powers tied to the supernatural that only their two close friends/sister knows about facing off against a colorful rogues gallery of villains who are tied to the very same dimension they derive their powers from.
I also love the detail of Crow showing up for Oogie’s part since you introduced her with Oogie Boogie’s song. That’s a fun touch.

1. This was FANTASTIC. I honestly love that theres not that much LORE (Still is there obviously) but it's mostly to the side & let's u have fun meeting all the new dusks! The three that I couldn't find are Mr Static, Borealis and Ms Vulture.
While the fourth is The Doorman, which is the door, but I also think his Bellhop form is the guy with no face at minute 2:38 who is between Drone and Bloom.
