I enjoyed your video, David. I liked how you explained every step and why you were doing it. I have watched several videos here on RUclips about making aquarium canopies. I liked your design the best and I'm going to adapt it for mine. Thanks.
This is definitely my next project. I have been researching several videos recently on building a canopy and this video is by far the best one I have found. Quality work my friend! I can wait to give it a try myself.
I agree with Jeremy. Very good video explaining how and why you did things. Quality materials used and nice craftmanship. Will also be using your design for the most part. Thanks for the good video.
@@hugheymorrow i think it absorsed too much moisture and high humidity in the tank. i sat it by a heater and fan and its ok now thankfully! plan to seal and paint it then try again 😊
Damn that's a good colour and I love the math used in the joints, of course s right angle wouldn't do. so much attention to detail! I need to listen on mute but I wonder what you'll do for an actual top if anything :o great job dude
No top which is the intentional design, because I have my lights mounted above the canopy, and I wanted an open top so that I could mount my lights at the right height but not have to have a super huge canopy. Thanks for the compliment.
I to am going to be building a new canopy to match my stand. Right now I am getting ready to paint my stand with chalk paint. I plan on leaving the interior space unpainted. Do you know if there is any special sealer needed for chalk paint or will the standard clear sealer work fine to stand up to a wet environment?
I made an aquarium hood and am having issues with my tank levels. I believe it is due to the stain I used...if I put oil based polyurethane on top should it solve this issue? (Will any chemicals leech into the tank and kill my fish?)
@@hotelaccounting4217 I don't know maybe? My tank is acrylic and has two openings at the top not totally open like glass. There isn't any practical exposure of the canopy interior to the aquarium water, even during maintenance. Feel free to comment on any recommended products you are aware of that someone may be interested in using if chemical safety is a concern. I'd probably call some pro manufactuerers and ask what they use if I had those concerns.
how is it restricted? You should be able to do any maintenance with the door as it gives enough clearance and anything more the canopy comes off easily

I'm glad you got something out of it, thanks for letting me know!

Thanks very much for that, very encouraging to me, and good luck I hope it turns out well!
Excellent tutorial
Very nice

I'd love to see the finished work, thank you and good luck with your project.
i just finished my 1st in pine and LOVE it! after a few hours i noticed a warp! do i have to start over? HELP!
You might have to. If it warped afterward, could be the cuts aren't square or pieces aren't equal in length?

Do you have a copy of the design you can share?
What stain did you use?
Varathane "Kona"
Very nice!
Help I have a hexagon 50 gallon tank and need a canopy
good work.
Thanks!

is this treated wood or regular wood?
just red oak, not pressure treated.

Not sure about the chalk paint. Alot of people just use kilz primer followed by polyurethane on the inside of the canopy

Is it glass or acrylic? I would not depend on the canopy to control water evaporation. I'd get a tank cover for that.
Nice you want to make one for me for a 29g tank? I dont need the covering though I'll be using pallet wood
That looked amazing and way easier than I expected, what color was the poly you used? It looks like it'll match my existing cabinets perfectly!
Thanks, i believe i used espresso satin
Needed more time with the finished product on display!
What type of wood you used for this project?
Red oak
how do you protect it from water moist and vapor coming from the aquarium?
The stain and polyurethane, I cover both the outside and inside
@@hugheymorrow shouldn't the interior sealant be of food grade?

@20:40 late night volume warning.. scared the balls out of me...
Sorry about that!😬
all that work, only to make such a restricted access...
