    I'm reading Peter's book at the moment, and I like his natural, unpretentious style of writing. Some of the stories are really funny, too, it's just the way he tells it cracks me up.

    Hooky is so awesome live. I have seen Peter Hook and the light twice now and his is an amazing showman. Close to a 3 hour show. I only paid 25 dollars for my ticket and the venue was very intimate. I saw New Order without Hooky and it just seemed they were so disconnected and so far away. They didn't even play for 2 hours. Hooky sounded great vocally especially on the Joy Division songs. Amazing keep it up.

    Peter Hooks book"Unknown Pleasures" Is a wonderful book. Hook speaks about Ian Curtis as much as about him self and his life. This interview struck me as very special the way he remembers How important Ian was to the band what a warm thoughtful person Ian was. I truly believe Peter has missed Ian the most of what was Joy Division and I know he things of Ian most every day of his life. Ian's talent to sing , write lyrics and perform on stage will live on till end of time. As one fan of Ian wrote he was a passing angel was her too short of time most gifted with writing songs, Ian gave his all.

    I like Peter hooks honesty, I knew rob gretton and the Manchester scene joy division , new order , and the hacienda were the reason I moved to Manchester in 87. I think all of them are unique individuals and together their music is very special and will always be important. I can think of incredible individual elements of joy division songs that are amazing..the incredible drumming, some guitar solos, and bass lines with the Incredible vocals and poetic lyrics that all work together perfectly. Dead souls, novelty,disorder, shadowplay, and No love lost, are some favourite tracks but Digital and Day of the lord's are my current favourites. I love ALL the music, depending on my mood and I like the earlier new order stuff in particular. They shaped my musical taste. Its hard to believe they were only professional for such a brief time. They had something very different and powerful, and more relevant now in 2021 than its ever been.

    Interesting interview with great person. Like many Northerners (being one myself), Hook is very direct and to the point. Seems so honest and feel a bit sorry for him. Cannot help but sense that he would love to re-work together with his other two old friends...

    New Order without Hooky is as much New Order as much as Joy Division without Ian Curtis wasn't Joy Division.

  • @FilCanJay
    @FilCanJay 11 лет назад +8

    Sumner, Hook and Morris are all amazing talents. I cannot believe they reformed New Order without Hook. Still I hope they get back together. New Order is just not the same without Hook. Sumner is the signature voice hands down but Hook's bass is equally as important. I just hope they all realize it's about the music. They all made their money already. Can't they just put egos aside, and get along and create great music again! Sheesh.

      Joy Division was all 4 of them. I think Peter Hooks bass was amazing. Him performing unknown pleasures ..touring it years later was disgusting. and awful to see and hear. fuck him and fuck them. its just a shame people they really influenced my world my sonic world just couldn't age gracefully.

    It's fascinating to me that Hooky says here that if things hadn't ended the way they did with Joy Division that the music wouldn't have been much different and it would be Ian singing on New Order songs - I've always thought that way. However I think the lyrics would be quite different, probably much better - Bernie never purported to be such a poet as Ian, and he almost decided it seems to me to deliberately write simple lyrics, which worked in their own way, for New Order -

  • @neoisis9373
    @neoisis9373 4 года назад +2

    Interesting to hear Hooky say that about Ian would have been singing Blue Monday. I know some JD fans probably find that hard to believe. That would have included me in 1983, but I came to realise that if Ian had lived and Joy Division had continued on for years, they might well have gone in the same direction as New Order did, but with Ian lyrics and vocals. After all, the people who were writing and playing the music in JD were all in NO, and Closer already had moved into electronica, and we know Ian was into Kraftwerk, and the Bowie- Eno records.

      ***** Even Hooky lauded him in this video

    • @MrCamelneck
      @MrCamelneck 9 лет назад

      ***** Curtis sucked. I could pick anybody off the street and chances are they could sing better than Ian Curtis. He's overrated because people are intrigued by his suicide. However, Curtis wasn't without his merits. He did write some very unique lyrics which set the tone for the band's music. But on the other hand, he was a manic depressive and I'm sure his mental defects helped make his lyrics so intriguing.

    • @Dexter101x
      @Dexter101x 9 лет назад +1

      MrCamelneck Curtis wasn't a manic depressive when he started off with Joy Division, it was only until he started suffering from the effects of epilepsy and the fact that he used to work in a hospital working with people who suffered from the same illness, "She's Lost Control" is why he wrote that song, that he thought that he was dragging the band backwards that he started suffering from depression. I don't see mental "defects" as that, all I see it was as a mental illness. I won't speculate whether this was the cause of why he wrote unique lyrics, because some of the songs he wrote (with the band) were also very good. I don't think it's because that people like him is because they are somehow "intrigued". I never knew of his epilepsy or depression or even suicide until I read more into the story of Joy Division, like you do after liking some or most of their songs, so to say its because of this or that is just plain nonsensical and pure speculation. Yeah, you do have your own taste in music, like I do, you do have the right to say whether it is good or bad, but please do not speculate like this, it might hurt people's feelings, especially those close to Ian and his family
