"Who do you think Cheetah was?" I don't know, it was so difficult to tell with that costume that DIDN'T COVER HER FACE, why, she could have been anyone
Kingdom Come Superman yep lol. There are some modern writers who write her as sassy, emphasis on some. If I remember correctly, Gail Simone gave her a sassy side and a cheeky sense of humor. Personally, I love it when she's sassy!
The Priscilla Rich version of Cheetah was the one used in the old Challenge of the Superfriends show, although they never gave her real name. You even saw her out of costume once, when she went back in time to Wonder Woman's and beat Diana in the contest to become Wonder Woman.
I'd like to see Sassy, Sarcastic Golden Age Wonder Woman teamed up with Anti-Capitalist Golden Age Superman and Gun-toting Golden Age Batman. If they existed in the early 1940s on one of the 52 parallel Earths, I suspect it's a very different place by 2020.
@@harryfailsgaming1246 "Dated." Such a sweet euphemism. In one issue, Diana travels back in time to WWII and encounters her mother, but disguises herself as Miss America to throw Hippolyta off. Nevertheless, Hippolyta recognized Diana and is shown discussing it with in bed with Ted Grant.
Priscilla was very of her time. However, how she was presented in the cómic JUSTICE was amazing. Still, as time went by you can see why the comics went for a true Cheetah person and not one wearing a costume. However, as we can see from the trailer of WW84 they are still paying homage to her in the sense that she starts just wearing cheetah pronto clothes and not instantly becomes a cheetah.
Cheetah will always be one of my favourite super villains & I’ve loved every iteration from Priscilla Rich, Deb Domaine & Dr. Barbara Minerva! Thanks for giving her due! 🐆🙏🏼
Would anyone take advice from zoom if they actually knew how much of a monster he was? Like i doubt most villains would like to work with him or even being in the same presence knowing that he can erase your from history because he thinks your shoes look ugly today
I had to re-listen to a sentence at the end. First time through it sounded like you asked "Do you need more Sasha Wonder Woman in your life?". To which the answer is of course yes. When you do take over the mantle from Diana can you please go back to the spinning really fast method of changing into your costume? I miss that.
While of course I love me Barbara. I will always have a soft spot for all the Cheetaha but especially Priscilla. I love that her envy is so intense she develops a Cheetah themed evil personality.
The first I ever heard of the Cheetah was a never-before-published story that appeared in the September 1971 Wonder Woman. Three stories in her first appearance? Were there any other stories in Wonder Woman 6? Sassy Wonder Woman sounds so much more interesting than the Wonder Woman I'm used to.
She was definitely already indulging her bad side, and I’m here for sassy Wonder Women. There’s a place for it... she seemed like she was aware on some level about Priscilla Rich’s shenanigans, but didn’t feel threatened.
And now I have a brand new opinion about Cheetah. Once again, my love of DC characters is primarily through seeing them through animation. But this is a story line that would be worth revisiting in the books. Forget all of the other changes made to Wonder Woman, you know, to make her "Relevant". Go back to the original sassy Wonder Woman and the stories told through the prism of Dom/Sub psychologies. The more complicated the restraints, the better.
There was a Jimmy Olsen series a while back, that I hope Sasha covers! It was mainly all of this over-the-top bizarre things happening to him, that he just took in blase stride...I think it was in the 2000s? Anyone remember that run?
I'm glad someone brought up the bondage element, thank you. I thought something seemed a little NSFW about those issues, as a child I couldn't piece it together until I learned context clues
A) thank you for backstory information that I didn't know. B) it can be said that I was "actively reading" comic books at the time of the first Crisis on Infinite Earth's and can track with those changes. Your videos really make me realize the "New 52" idea that DC had has really screwed things up.
Golden Age Priscilla Rich is the best version of The Cheetah. She has the right mix of intensity, tenacity, cunning and flaws, particularly internal conflict. The Silver Age Priscilla Rich was an embarrassment, so ineffectual as to probably be the worst Cheetah. Rebirth Barbara Anne Minerva is probably the second best Cheetah, just for the tragedy...Rebirth should have used Debbie Domaine though, if it needed a sympathetic Cheetah.
I think the Golden Age version is still my favorite. She was a great arch-villain when they didn't have to be a physical match for the hero. Diana would have mopped the floor with Cheetah. Even today, I just don't think Cheetah should even make Diana break a sweat in a fight. Cheetah has to use cunning -- like Luthor -- not try to beat her physically.
I agree loved the original version of the cheetah one of my earliest issues of wonder woman in the 70s I bought was wonder woman 230 which had a classic cheetah cover great issue was never impressed with Priscilla riches replacement called debbie in the late seventies then the latest incarnation just looks like a wild animal which is a long way from cheetahs original concept

Oddly enough, my first memories of Cheetah were divided. Before I was old enough to collect comics, I had the Priscilla Rich prototype for "Challenge Of The Superfriends". Then a few years later when I was collecting Deborah Domaine was the active Cheetah iteration in the Wonder Woman and associated titles. Her stint was longer, but she never gets even the same amount of press and Sebastian did for his tenure. I find it remarkable that the first two versions had ZERO superpowers and often were Diana's ruin. I wish someone would do a deep dive on her time in the costume.
(Michelle Pfeiffer dons costume made from beanbag chair, poses in front of her apartment window) "I don't know about you, Miss Kitty, but I feel so much... lumpier." 😉
Use the bean bag chairs material and make a short Carmen sandiego coat out of it. Then, continue your wig trend Finally, use the innards of the bean bag as weapons for chemical warfare *boom* Done. All that's left is to figure out villain or hero.
The OG cheetah is nothing more than a thief in a cheetah costume no superpowers, she was just a naughty girl somewhat similar to Catwoman.. back in the day when Wonder Woman was rocking her invisible jet. And there was a Hall of Justice.
If you're touching into Wonder Woman, would you do issue 28 aka the first appearance of Villainy Inc. Argusbly the first supervillain team (of a single person rogues).
Nice video. Cheetah is a very cool villain and Wonder Woman comics are very fun. I loved your narration of the comic and the voices you did for Cheetah and Wonder Woman.
Pass.... The Salt! I like the later versions on The Cheetah when she actually had supernatural powers, weak powers, but not the "punch her in the face and she is down for the count" weak. When I was a kid, all the bondage just went over my head, years later I was going "OMG! They let them get away with that?"
I don't. No cheetah is going to give wonder woman a fight anyway. So then it's a god thing which is pretty much not a cheetah anyway. To be fair, Superheroes get tied up anyway. So the bondage thing fits in surprisingly well. There's a reason why Superman's iconic image is breaking free of chains, and Batman is an escape artist ect.
I wish we would get to see both Cheetahs at the same time there very different one being a rich high class woman who hates Wonder Woman wearing cheetah skin and the other is her best friend turned into a cheetah human creature
You have that now with Veronica Cale. Pre-flash point her motivation was envy of Wonder Woman. Post rebirth the was an association between Veronica and the new cheetah.
Just visually, I think my favorite version is Priscilla Rich with the cheetah head on top of her own. Maybe it's just the art by Alex Ross, but that seems like a really dynamic and distinctive look. The straight-up anthropomorphic variants just seem kind of generic. I mean, cat people are a dime a dozen nowadays. Maybe cheaper. The Cats movie lowered their stock considerably.
i have a bit of a problem with that bit where the first thing WW jumps to is that she set somebody off because of an inferiority complex. it hits either a note of arrogance or just too on the nose. it's like hey, fourth wall breaking isn't your schtick, knock it off! also was Steve kind of like adding Batgirl to the Batman show... to cover for, oh i don't know... WW being possibly gay? the panel where Priscilla is hanging all over her... she doesn't seem to mind it beyond getting snippy. and yet, there's poor ol' Steve, begging for scraps, and nobody notices. maybe if he turned his sights on Priscilla, she might decide to ditch the bad kitty persona... after all, she would have taken WW's bf away from her. never mind that none of it actually matters, it would be how she saw it.
I became a Wonder Woman fan with the George Perez, more mythology-connected version. Please cover more of her villains from Golden and Silver Age versions - especially the ones that... did not age well. And don't hold back.
This is the one I grew up with. But rarely get to see that gorgeous hair she has. That was a well used style. Liberty Belle had the exact same one. I kinda like the role and dialogue between her and WW. She was essentially in a good social role where she could use it to hurt wonder woman. Would have been cool if she had managed to maintain it. Its what villains started doing in like the 80s with Vandal, and Businessman Luthor ect.
I mostly know Cheetah from Super Friends, but I'm not sure which version they went with. I do remember an episode where she goes back in time and cheats (no pun intended) in the Amazon competition and beats Diana, becoming Wonder Woman in her place.
