Dearest lovely John Butler, your words of wisdom and serene spirit fills my heart with hope for our poor old planet and everything that breathes on it, bless you😀
I agree with John, that all hope lies in the spiritual world and in the ground our of being which exists in the present moment. There is no hope in a worldly future, because our destruction of mother earth is now in runaway and irreversible. All of our energy should go into our spiritual practices. Praying for the happiness and salvation of others is one very good practice I recommend.
john understands the bible is riddled with metaphor. i don't think he cares what is fact and what is myth because what holds the true power is the meaning. and the meaning is verifiable experientially. he doesn't argue the validity of the bible, he speaks from his deep experience. the thing is, most ancient spiritual texts make sense when interpreted properly. the point of them is never to claim "this is the way it is, god is this way and that way and not any other way, this is the one true religion." they are all just diverse paths to the same oneness, the same nature, the same core being. mystical christianity is just one path, while buddhism, hindu traditions, sufism, and many more, are also paths. i think that this lack of contradiction you are finding is because john is a "real" christian. not the fundamentalist, dogmatic christian down the street, who attends the church in town. mystical christianity and atheism have so much more in common, than mystical christianity and modern christianity. the atheist cares about truth, and cares about not believing anything unseen without verifiable evidence. what is absolutely beautiful about the mystical side of these religious traditions, is that it does not care about belief in the unseen either. it does encourage one to get in touch with what is unseen, but it does not get its truth from mere faith. it gets its faith and truth from experience, while scripture is only there to be a tool, a reference, a guiding light for that particular path. how to cultivate this "experience" while bypassing "belief"? john will tell you, meditation practice. and applying core principles to the way you live. (that means loving one another). you say that faith leads people to entirely different conclusions...well that is because their "faith" is made of "belief." which is kind of like forceful cognitive acceptance of something one is not sure of otherwise. it is usually driven by pressure to believe, or guilt for not believing. this believing is a forced brainwashing. it is psychological manipulation. that is definitely a recipe for disaster. that is why these mystical spiritual traditions encourage us to verify things for ourselves, rather than believing a priest. the buddha himself said not to believe him, to test what he was saying. so i think, if you interpret the bible spiritually, metaphorically, mystically, and read between the lines, understand the historical context and traditions of that culture, and read an accurate translation that hasn't been as prone to as much manipulation based on the agenda of the powers that be, you will be led to experiencing your own truth. not truth as in a claim that this and that happened, that god flooded and earth and noah actually literally built a boat for all the animals while the rest of the world drowned, and that the only "way to heaven" is through a human character that lived and died thousands of years ago...but a truth that is known in your heart, that you are one in the same as everyone else, that we are in this together, and that if we are mindful and turn toward the light, we can change the world with peaceful, loving action. look up richard rohr if you want some seriously down to earth, mystical yet painfully practical christianity for modern, progressive times. it is not christianity repackaged, it is christianity in its purest form, based off of the actual teachings of jesus and what he was *actually* pointing to. if you are skeptical and weary of "faith," and refuse to invest belief in fallible theories, and understand that many lives have been lost and many hearts have been broken in the name of christianity, he is the guy for you. he is a roman catholic priest in the franciscan tradition. good luck friend.
Jesus is a son of God,just like the rest of us, only if we realize it with God's grace. Hope more people realize it and don't become bogged down by ideology, philosophy, religions dogmas of rigidity.
@Now Present stfu, first things first, were not all the sons of god, not to sound like a feminist but women excite do, also people getting bogged down is other people believing in the things they have faith in, you know how you have faith in god, well guess what pal, other people have faith in there religions too, kinda how I have faith that everything you believe in is a bunch of bull hunky, ok, thx for reading my rant.

'The best manure is the farmers boot'. Yes. The good farmer is sensitive to the nuances, the smallest details of his crops, flock and herd. With practised awareness he recognises the patterns and anomalies in his domain. Always curious, always keen. He is curious, investigates anything out of the ordinary for himself, calling on a third party as a last resort and even then utilises those he knows to be trustworthy. Not for him an undiscerning deference to 'experts' and authorities whose character and motivations are not clear to him. He is self-reliant, confident in the experience and knowledge he has gleaned for himself and the wisdom which has been passed down to him from previous generations. He is not faddish, his trust is in proven practices. Yet he is not adverse to implementing new practices that bring improvements, but exercises due diligence, availing himself to all arguments before he proceeds and always with caution. He is not someone easily convinced. He has responsibility.
*Question for John:* Do you know any criteria by which one can be sure that the spiritual path will continue if one hasn't brought it to fruition in this life ? Or are you a universalist in the sense that you think _all_ life will ultimately transcend suffering ?

John and Phil, I am struck by the similarities of NDEs (near death experiences) and what John describes: a feeling of unconditional love with time and space becoming irrelevant. Wondering if you are aware of these similarities and also your thoughts on the subject.

What would be the point of Mother Nature providing blades of grass with the ability to warn other blades of grass that a lawnmower was heading towards them-when they haven't been provided with the ability to move out of the way?
Yes I've been thinking about climate change for the past 5-6 years now. I wait for the winter to arrive and each year it seemingly gets warmer and warmer. I live in virginia and since before 6 years ago there has always been a cold weathery atmosphere here in Virginia, US during the winter. However each year since then winter has become spring like with somedays hot even reaching the 70's or even more rare (but no so much now) 80's. Every year there is less and less snowfall and the wintery mixes become less and less frequent. About 5 years ago we've had a huge snow storm almost blizzard like that took up about 2 feet or 60.6 cm in height. Since then there hasnt been much snowfall of any kind if there were it would be less than an inch or less than 2.5 centimeters.
You know John and Phil, to answer John's question from my own experience: "Has the viewer seen animals in their true, natural habitat?" I have throughout my life; as I grew up in Canada. I've camped and gone fishing and the odd bit of hunting, and just basic hiking and seen elk, deer and bison about in Alberta. Cleaned out mangrove trees when I was in highschool on a trip to Belize and after swam in shallows near a reef, volunteering for a construction thing with a non-partisan charity group by the name of the Rotary Club (wasn't a missionary thing or anything, just wanted to build a playground.) Probably some other examples but my memory is sparking at the moment; if you're interested I could extrapolate. On some points from the video: I do have to agree that the artificiality of people's lives, my own included has... led a negative effect on things. Where I am at right now there is massive crop failure because of record amounts of flooding drowning out the crops. The farmers can't even predict the seasons with any certainty anymore and there's a legitimate, growing sense of worry on that front. From what I heard similar phenomenon is affecting the globe. As of the last year I've been dating a girl who, I've very much fallen in love with, and I think part of the reason is because she hails from a background very much connected to nature. She's from an indigenous tribe and lives on her reserve, works in a conservationist fishery- which only exists because the local rivers had been dammed since the mid 20th century which cut a population of nearly 300-400 million salmon to merely 15 million initially in the first years (1920's-30's) and which has only to the present day recovered to a point of 40 million per annual amount. But another big facet which has been completely alien to me but in a good way has been that she is more spiritual; and in a very "grounded" way as you'd put it. It's more traditional North American plains native beliefs and the like but there's a definite sense of actually being connected; for instance when they hunt bison she knows how to skin the whole thing, utilize the full extent of its parts and everything is ate- even stuff like the tongue and other things. Sweat lodge is another thing they do and its something that does cleanse you- and mind I'm not a very spiritual person but after doing it I definitely feel refreshed and happier. Probably because I've sweated out any dirt and grime in me due to the intense heat, but the overall atmosphere with it is just really chill too I suppose. On the note of automation: I think that with any sort of craft that, as much as technology is a wonderful thing- and something I earnestly believe has made life better and that scientific inquiry of verifying truths and finding evidence has improved things- that the human connection is needed. Though there is a thing on my mind. I know that in the video you found it rather funny that it took a science experiment to verify that "plant's scream" and that its common sense: And perhaps it is to a farmer who grows them. But throughout history, and especially in the past people did not believe that- farmers were a relatively eschewed social class. Respected in some societies sure but they didn't hold very much power. Kings, despots, merchants and senators would all strip the lands of resources, forests hacked down to supply the timber for ships. Your own native England is an example of that after all; many of the ancient forests had all but disappeared in England by the late middle ages due to demands for timber. People believed that they were the inheritors of the Earth and the reigning supreme in the natural order; that man was the overlord of beasts and nature and that its bounty was relatively infinite- it was god given bounty after all to them. The fur trade in Canada certainly had that outlook for quite a while until there was finally people with some sense of acumen to go, "hey, the numbers of beavers and other pelt bearing animals has gotten really sparse maybe we should let up." I found it incredibly interesting that Phil brought up the Gaia theory... I can't say whether or not I fully believe it or not but part of me definitely feels the Earth is quasi-sentient... that it has some sort of force about it, if that makes sense. Whether or not its fully aware or whatever I can't honestly say because I truly don't know. This video has given somewhat an answer to some of the things i ponder about; and I think the main message I got out of this as John has iterated is to: "Keep your feet on the ground." And by that in my humble interpretation, actually involve yourself in the world as it is, appreciate it and develop a love for it. And perhaps that's the sense of spiritual eye opening people need, they simply need to just go and experience nature- and not in a drastic way even. Simply going to a grove with some trees, or whatever and relaxing for a bit... keep it simple. I write for part of my living and I find being outside has made me feel a lot better personally. That all aside- I've enjoyed listening to the video; and I look forward to tuning in for more.
My meditation is in God's Word, and on His promises, and His being 'true' always and faithful. Men are not. May I say that Paul Tillich was right on a few things and wrong on a lot. Jesus authors and perfects 'unfeigned' faith in true hearts, is what the Holy Bible teaches. God bless those that understand this much!

Out of curiosity, how is John voting in this upcoming election? Perhaps he is not willing to say, whichis fair enough. I can't imagine he's a Tory voter somehow. 🌹
First of all: I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you very much for making them. But I'm curious if you might share the ways in which you achieve your insights. For example: In this video you discuss the fact that a woman heard a plant, a cabbage, screaming, when she cut it. You agree with that perception and called it an obvious fact, because plants live. Let's see: It's physically impossible for a cabbage to scream in the way we define screaming. It's lacking lungs, vocal chords and a mouth. Apart from that: Why should the cabbage scream? Because it feels pain? Pretty difficult without a nervous system I'd say. So the cabbage screamed (in a way which we haven't defined) because it felt pain (in a way which we haven't defined) and that woman heard that (in a way which we obviously also haven't defined, because there was no usual scream)? Of course we might say now she "felt it somehow" and what she felt was right. That might be true. But still we're lacking a way to distinguish things we "feel somehow" that are right, true, good and make us respect the world from that mad, bad, ugly stuff that might turn us into psychopaths. Here we might be on safer ground if we prefer facts and reasoning and not rather undefined feelings, even if we achieved those feelings and impressions through meditation. And if we follow facts and reasoning we might conclude that the cabbage never screamed. The woman might have thought: "well this cabbage is alive, (true) so it feels pain (false, as far as we know by scientific research so far) and it will scream, if I cut it. Now I cut it and hey! I hear a scream." As far as I understand your statement you disagree with my opinion. And I'd be very curious to hear more about that. Thanks!
You achieved his goal; to make you contemplate your and others' actions, their weight, and their righteousness. The excercise itself by all will make this world a better place. Be less literal.
@@mostly_normal_man Thanks for your reply. Before I give you an answer I'd like to ask something. Since you took the liberty to reply to a statement that was obviously addressed to John, even giving me advice how to structure my thoughts, I'd like to know if there's any kind of connection between John and you that makes you answer on his behalf or if you're just expressing your own opinion or your opinion of what John might answer.
@@mostly_normal_man Anyway I'd like to reply to your answer. I regret to say that you missed my point. Obviously John shares some interesting insights on this channel. Some of this insights contradict with logical reasoning. For a channel that presents spiritual content I can accept that. But nevertheless I'd like to know more about the way in which John achieves his knowledge - if we can call it like that. An idea achieved in the state of meditation at first glance might not convince us, even if we like it. It needs further confirmation through further impressions before it becomes a certainty. I'd be very interested to get further information about this epistemic process of John. I hope I straightened out my question now.
@@mostly_normal_man Because this is the way in which we gain insights. I give two examples. First: You're walking down a road. Your way leads across a bridge. At first sight it seems pretty safe. But as you come closer a guy tells you: "You should better not cross that bridge. It's quite old and might break anytime." You decide to take a closer look, and in fact the bridge seems to be in worse shape than you supposed. In fact now you're sure it will break the next time someone crosses it. You decide - wisely - not to use it. In this case your first impression might have led you to a serious injury. Two further impressions - the warning and the closer inspection - prevented you from serious harm. Second example: Your brother comes to your place. He seems really happy and tells you: "Today I met the girl I'm going to marry. I saw her at the mall and I immediately knew she's the one. So I went over and proposed to her. She accepted." Maybe this setting would seem absolutely perfect to you. But I guess a lot of people would rather have a bad feeling in their guts. They'd advise their brother strongly not to rely only on the first impressions because these can often be deceiving or may be only showing some parts while hiding important facts. One might argue now: Yeah, but maybe the first impression was right. Sure. But finding a prove for it didn't hurt. And returning to the example of the bridge I say: In this case I'd rather be the one who was looking for further confirmation.
In this episode we have decapitated screaming cabbage; carrot murder, and grasses that scream and emit a chemical to warm the other blades in the grass community that the lawnmower is on its way 😱 Now every time i put kraut on my hotdog, or make a delicious batch of coleslaw, I'll have to have a funeral for the veggies. And what to do when the grass is up to my waist? ... And these two are looked up to in (thankfully) a select circle of people 🙄
I think you’re being a bit closed minded there Todd if I may say so - our anthropocentric perspective precludes empathising with our veggie friends. There are several books out on the secret life of trees which I must catch up on. Phil
'What about the angels, what about the fairies.Aren't these real?' I like John's videos, but he's all over the place in this one. Providence refers to the protective care of God, to spiritually give your problems over to God through faith in Him, not about God 'providing' sustenance and material things for you.

As a devout atheist I find no contradiction in John's teachings. Even the fairies make sense when John explains it....
True knowledge is found in compound faith. :)
Thank you for your perspective. Much appreciated
I don't think faith has ever been a good method of finding truth. It leads people to entirely different conclusions.
john understands the bible is riddled with metaphor. i don't think he cares what is fact and what is myth because what holds the true power is the meaning. and the meaning is verifiable experientially. he doesn't argue the validity of the bible, he speaks from his deep experience. the thing is, most ancient spiritual texts make sense when interpreted properly. the point of them is never to claim "this is the way it is, god is this way and that way and not any other way, this is the one true religion." they are all just diverse paths to the same oneness, the same nature, the same core being. mystical christianity is just one path, while buddhism, hindu traditions, sufism, and many more, are also paths. i think that this lack of contradiction you are finding is because john is a "real" christian. not the fundamentalist, dogmatic christian down the street, who attends the church in town. mystical christianity and atheism have so much more in common, than mystical christianity and modern christianity. the atheist cares about truth, and cares about not believing anything unseen without verifiable evidence. what is absolutely beautiful about the mystical side of these religious traditions, is that it does not care about belief in the unseen either. it does encourage one to get in touch with what is unseen, but it does not get its truth from mere faith. it gets its faith and truth from experience, while scripture is only there to be a tool, a reference, a guiding light for that particular path. how to cultivate this "experience" while bypassing "belief"? john will tell you, meditation practice. and applying core principles to the way you live.

John you're a true inspiration. What you say resonates with me on a daily basis, and I hope someday I can amplify what you say through my artistic practice and my works.

How can you know what it's like to be in the real father's embrace? You said it's like that. What other experience have you had that can accurately compare to the real father? What exactly do you mean by that? And what's the "real" father? Are there fake fathers? Is there any other kind?

Thanks again John for talking to us. Regards and love.

*Question for John:* Do you know any criteria by which one can be sure that the spiritual path will continue if one hasn't brought it to fruition in this life ? Or are you a universalist in the sense that you think _all_ life will ultimately transcend suffering ?

Would John ever consider doing an audiobook of any of his books?
You know John and Phil, to answer John's question from my own experience:
"Has the viewer seen animals in their true, natural habitat?"
I have throughout my life; as I grew up in Canada.
On some points from the video:
I do have to agree that the artificiality of people's lives, my own included has... led a negative effect on things.
On the note of automation:
I think that with any sort of craft that, as much as technology is a wonderful thing- and something I earnestly believe has made life better and that scientific inquiry of verifying truths and finding evidence has improved things- that the human connection is needed.
The fur trade in Canada certainly had that outlook for quite a while until there was finally people with some sense of acumen to go, "hey, the numbers of beavers and other pelt bearing animals has gotten really sparse maybe we should let up."
I found it incredibly interesting that Phil brought up the Gaia theory... I can't say whether or not I fully believe it or not but part of me definitely feels the Earth is quasi-sentient... that it has some sort of force about it, if that makes sense. Whether or not its fully aware or whatever I can't honestly say because I truly don't know.
This video has given somewhat an answer to some of the things i ponder about; and I think the main message I got out of this as John has iterated is to:
"Keep your feet on the ground."
And by that in my humble interpretation, actually involve yourself in the world as it is, appreciate it and develop a love for it.

Can I ask a question. Do you believe in reincarnation john ? Or could you do a video on reincarnation please.
I hear a scream."
As far as I understand your statement you disagree with my opinion.
@@cryptchat8254 why would we need further impressions to be convinced, why isn't the first time good enough?
In this episode we have decapitated screaming cabbage; carrot murder, and grasses that scream and emit a chemical to warm the other blades in the grass community that the lawnmower is on its way 😱

@@svonkie The 'point' is PAIN, SUFFERING, - do you get it ???
I like John's videos, but he's all over the place in this one. Providence refers to the protective care of God, to spiritually give your problems over to God through faith in Him, not about God 'providing' sustenance and material things for you.
