Hi Mike. I really love your music lesson, since my child (7yrs old) is learning (Grade 1). He always watch your video to practice. You are amazing. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Mike. Loving these videos. Thank you. Doesn’t Dave do Hertas during these fills? I’ve never managed to nail these so would love to see a broken down version of these to make them simpler!
he does 3 rounds of fills alternating between the fill and a ride groove, one of them he does the super fast hertas- and yeah I'm stuck on that part as well
Hi Andy, ,that comes after this bit, and in fact doesn't feature in the Grade 5 version. I go through the basic herta-in-triplets skill here: ruclips.net/video/id7u7ksBtI4/видео.html That section also featured in the first ever video on this channel btw!: ruclips.net/video/cSDwaXqzU7o/видео.html
Really? One way (of many!) to interpret those pages would be play the phrases as accents within single stroke triplets - and of course it's a classic book. But I'd be surprised if that was the direct inspiration for Dave Grohl's playing - where did you hear that?
awesome lesson, one thing I've been stuck on for the last couple years is the herta fill he does right after that, I have a hard time feeling that herta and keeping the 16th triplet feel. Could you do a lesson going over that next part?

@@MikeBarnesDrums thanks for coming back to do this fill that I asked for :) When I've got time to take advantage of your material I'll definitely become a member
I buy you a coffee if you can do a 1 minute drum lesson on peggy sue buddy holly i just cant get it to sound right with the paradiddle i have even watched Jerry Allison explain it cheers
Hi Gary, I'll do a video on that at some point, iconic drum part! I appreciate the support of course, but sadly that won't guarantee a video in a short time frame as (happily!) I'm currently working through the list of channel member requests. As you say, a good video exists of the man himself demonstrating it: ruclips.net/video/tDD3y7qXhdI/видео.html - It's essentially a single paradiddle played briskly with an accent on the beat, like this: ruclips.net/video/YZvmZxzQeSM/видео.html Cheers!
Yeah I think it’s just a coincidence and Dave would not of got it from here . I didn’t hear it anywhere , it’s just that I’ve been working on them in the book and the accents are the same as the first 2 bars of exercise 1 - cheers
First 2 bars of ex 1 page 38 go “1 +, +, 3, 4, 1, 2, +, +”. The first half of the first bar is the same (if you swing the eighths and fill in the gaps with triplets) but it differs from this pattern after that. It’s an all-time classic book of course! And you could absolutely use it to produce patterns of this nature. Cheers.

I was stuck on this triplet but I practiced a lot and this has helped, thanks to u and my drum teacher as well.
One of my fav drummers..grohl
Loved this, thankyou. Tried playing this in a rehearsal this week and it sounded terrible - because I've not put the time in doing the drill!
Cheers Mark!

@@skirwan78 Hey man, see below! :)
Love that one man!!
Hi Mike , I think this idea comes from Ted Reeds Syncopation exercise 1 page 38 where you play it swung with triplets - cheers man
