Ya its a little different but once you get a hang of it, its pretty nice. My uncle had issues with his 8430 because his GPS was practically right above the articulation of the tractor and it was constantly steering. He build a bracket and moved it further out and it works well now. Our gps is on the front of the hood
Looks like you were getting the hang of it by the time you finished. Those electronics can be frustrating when they don't work right. My setup is pretty simple, just straddle the furrow in the dirt the marker arm makes! Lol!
BornToFarm101 you did a good job for first time... it's always nerv racking with the dad watching I started doing our planting about 10 years ago before we had auto steer.... it's not such a bad thing learning without it some end rows I still have to drive... when you use markers and going around curves remember don't look at hood keep the mark under your butt and you won't have wide guest rows around curves
Lol man that’s gonna be fun for the combine driver!! Those are some pretty sharp curves. Why not find the straight side and go back and forth? All those curves are wasted time come harvest
the curves actually made less passes--they weren't too sharp for the combine. i know what you're saying--this was also testing the auto steer from the previous passes
We have auto steer but still use markers in case we lose GPS Signal and helps us see where we have been and helps us keep going if the gps does not come back.
You did a good job for the first time and making a video.
thanks!
Looks good to me farmer doing real good job thanks for the video🐝
awesome job!
Thanks!
that was verry interesting love how things are done now even though i would be lost.
Ya Im still learning myself! Way more to it than a person thinks
I know it's been said but first time corn planting and with an articulated tractor! Good job!

nice work on planting
thanks!
you are welcome my friends

That's why the electronics make me nervous, if it slips up, were sitting still when the old fashioned way works all the time
here on the farm we plant 33600 population. thanks for the video and have a great evening
We plant 30,000
Thanks you too. Ya I think he will play with it but for now it was set at 32,500

thanks Ya curves can be tricky especially with a 4wd.
Well done
thanks!

The first day of planting is the hardest. Trying to get the planter set fertilizer etc.
ya always good to try that on a questionable day so you can work the bugs out when its not a perfect day to plant
👍🚜⛽
Did you turn on the e-drive? I have a S-3 on a combine and have done that.
Ya it turned out to be a loose cable.
Is it hard using a center articulated to plant?
It takes some getting used to but it works great.
Hi! What GPS software r u using? Thanks.
GPS is through Outback Guidance
How do you like the 8970? Thanks
beast of a tractor and pulls great at low idle. good torque
Is it hard to drive that big tractor????
what is the system you are using on your Ipad?
Im not exactly sure what its called but its controlling everything on the planter
It looks like a program called 'field view'. It's what's usually used with the Precision Planting 20/20 system.
About the population, 31.1k-33.3k, is it how many seeds do you put per acre? What hybrid is this?
Nice job and video!
Yes, we had it set at 32500 seeds per acre. We have different non-gmo hybrids this year. thanks!
What liquid is in the tank?
we call it starter, not sure on the exact breakdown
Markers?
the things that fold down to make a mark in the ground so you know where to drive if you don't have auto steer
where I used to work, they ran the same 20/20 sedsense on a 6 row planter, kinda pointless for the section control if you ask me but cool regardless
Ya planters keep getting more and more complex...just like a combine lol
Don't know what these complicated machine cost but it must be huge. What a gamble for the farmer if the market or the weather fails. Jim
you're exactly right. farmers take an unreal amount of risk and the expensive machinery is necessary to compete in the market
you know a lot of farmers use the markers even if they have auto steer
Huh, thats interesting, all the guys around here that use auto steer either don't use the markers or took the markers off their planters
We have auto steer but still use markers in case we lose GPS Signal and helps us see where we have been and helps us keep going if the gps does not come back.
Not a bad idea, most guys don't do that up here tho. Knock on wood, once the GPS is working, we don't generally have issues with it
Everyone has a first time
Anderson Farms and some people have the last time too.
Yes that is right
Ya hoping to learn more. Felt confident towards the end. Should be a little easier in a more open field
And with auto steer lol
I see your key chain reads "phelps implement" you must be from iowa?
Southern mn but he got it from a some guys that did manure application in the fort dodge area if I'm not mistaken.
I never had also
check out my channel you might like what you see
I don't see any videos
There are
Its more than a guy thinks but it was fun
Drop your markers they will tell you if the GPS is off.
We actually took a look at our GPS controller box and got a cable squared away....thats a good way to know tho
Use markers
