*exact* *same* *for* *me* but its now 2022 :o HOWWWWW lollll ...I have been a huge Radiohead fan since 1999 and like any possible remotely connected band....some how this reallly slipped under my radar and I cannot fathom how!!!
I still remember finding this band in 2006, only because the singer of my then favorite band Tool, Maynard James Keenan, thought them to be smth like the most interesting band of that time. Thanks for that, after 20 years their debut is still amazing, and Plantlife & Here Comes Everybody still my absolute favs.
Of all my good friend with such wonderful music taste, super compatible with mine, no one has ever heard of autolux. So grateful for whatever algorithm blessed me with them

i just stumbled across this video but think you guys are having a laugh, she's a competent drummer sure, but it's not like she's larnell lewis or flo mounier, they have a good band sound together which makes her sound powerful

I’m not comparing her to anyone. she suits the band very well. autolux is a very hypnotic and understated band with flourishes of noise and Karla punctuates and accentuates those aspects perfectly. i can name a dozen drummers in the same genre from bigger acts that don’t contribute nearly as much to my enjoyment of their albums.

@@hughmcgown i wasn’t comparing before but then i did for clarity. and i said a dozen. to rattle some off the top of my head, i think Ringo Deathstarr, Astrobrite, Drop Nineteens, Chapterhouse, Airiel, Catherine Wheel, Fleeting Joys, LSD and the Search for God, Pale Saints, and even Medicine get less out of their drummers than Autolux does, on their first two albums in particular. a lot of that is stylistic to be sure, but my point stands. Listen to Audience No. 2 and youll hear how much the drums carry that song from a filler track to something memorable.

And then they add the sexy, almost cruel, lyrics "shut your mouth" until it burst down into busting that chord and then the spacey outro. I agree it doesn't come on that well in this performance, but you should check the cd version, I've been spacing out of my mind to this track for years. Bottomline, this song IS perfect

THIS is why I think the first album has infi itely better production for them than the later 2...on "FP", they used T-Bone Burnett, who talked them out of their intended method of doing everything very methodically, piece by piece, and convinced them to go for capturing their live sound in the room without a lot of artificial layering/punch ins. After the 1st record, he was gone, and so was that philosophy. Still amazing live though
Man, amazing comment. Indeed the production on their first album is totally perfect, as an engineer I often use it as a reference. Also their first record was mixed by Dave Sardy who is quite an amazing mix engineer ! :) I don't really enjoy their later releases, maybe the "live" factor is the reason.

I love music like this and will play like this guitar or bass anything i will do and with passion lets start a band im in alabama and weeks away from being homeless ill move use up credit and take loans and make it happen.
