    Well there's an answer to that question now!
    Today, we discuss the Sydney Metro testing for the upcoming City & Southwest extension, set to open in the next few months.
    The video also includes some clips that I filmed of the metro trains testing at Chatswood and Sydenham!

    Forgot to mention that I'm also working on a video giving a full explanation of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest extension. That will be out just after they eventually announce the open day for the metro extension. :)

    I remember back a week ago, after school at like 7-8pm, I saw bunches of metro staff members standing at the side of the metro door, and once the metro departs, it horns for like 10 times, feels like it was celebrating, and accelerates straight into the tunnel, and I filmed it down.

    I genuinely think they have underestimated how much demand there is going to be on the Chatswood-Central portion of the new Route, they are only ready to run 15 trains per hour with 6 car trains and not enough spares to ramp up frequency in case demand does hit that capacity. I worked on the project (Chatswood Dive and Central Station works) and remember thinking this the entire time; demand only has to exceed capacity in one portion of the line, say Central to Martin Place, for it to cause significant issues. I believe they have designed the initial operations to be able to run >20tph to recover from delays and catch up the schedule but they cant do this reliably for extended periods.
    Another criticism I have after working on the project is that, as great as it is having a Cross-Platform Transfer between T1/T9 and M1, the overall result is I think worse than if you Hhd designed the line system properly and independently from the beginning and the M1 had remained underground, the overall journey time could have been 3-4 minutes faster, less energy used, another entrance to Chatswood Station underground, and you could have had more options for new stations including serving North Ryde better, Willoughby and possibly Lane Cove. Now a future Beaches Metro and possibly a local light rail are going to have to come in and mop up, same as at Zetland+Alexandria though that was probably a given.

      Just responding to the second half, the Epping - Chatswood rail link was initially built and operated as part of the already existing heavy rail network, would have been a huge cost to rebuild/reroute.

    • @kyletopfer7818
      @kyletopfer7818 Месяц назад

      @@Holospejsn Yeah obviously the ECRL was the crux of the issue - as I said I worked on the extension (and I actually lived on the T9 Northern line so my morning commute used to go via Macquarie Park in to the City).
      The broader point is that the planning failures in Sydney over recent decades are clear and are detrimental to the transit system in a big way, from the ESR getting cut short to Bondi Junction, then the Olympic Park shuttle, to thedisaster that is the Airport line, and onto SWRL and ECRL, now arguably Metro between Central-Sydenham. It is going to take billions more to untangle and heal all of these and the final product will still be inferior to what could have been done.

      Agreed. Eg, why wasn’t the metro extended a couple of extra kms to the Richmond line? Why wasn’t a metro built decades ago? Eastern suburbs line terminating at BJ etc etc etc. (Bob Carr I’m looking at you… amongst others).
      But, I think we also need to realise that we can’t let the perfect get in the way of the good. At least we’re getting something now. Let’s just make sure we do it right in future 🤦‍♀️

    When Sydney Metro had the open day before the initial line first opened to stress test at max loads, the whole system collapsed and there were massive delays. This time they are not taking any chances.

    What’s the wait time at Chatswood now with the trains going through to Sydenham when they used to terminate I think it was about a 5 minute wait for the train to go back to Tallawong

    • @tsetstransport
      @tsetstransport  Месяц назад +1

      Same times as before - 10 minutes off-peak, 4 minutes on-peak. It's primarily since they have roughly around 45 metro trains now allowing frequencies to stay the same despite the extension.

      I think wynard, Martin place and new hunter st station should be renamed as Sydney central north with platforms being renumbered.
      Platform 1-2: T4
      3-4: T1 and northern line
      5-6: T2/T8
      7-8: M1
      9-10: west metro

      There’s is so much security there, it’s pretty much impossible for them to not detect you. Even if you were to avoid them until the train starts moving, they’ve set up Crows Nest where they’ll remove you from the train, interrogate you, then put you on the next train back to Chatswood.
