Those leather jackets are lovely to eat, especially deep water ones. I also love the herrings or as we call them Tommy Ruffs here in South Oz. Smoke them or just fry em up with some lemon. Most people think the the Tommy's and LJ's are shit fish, but there's nothing wrong with them, just ice them when caught and bleed them as well, especially the Tommy's, it makes all the difference to their taste.

Similar to what in Sydney we name a reef leatherjacket. That oval yellow shape in the middle of the body is distinguishing only our Sydney version has yellow fins & a brown colour skin.Certainly edible, very white flesh, a little dry pan fried. Gido, try wrapping in alfoil & backing should then be a moist.

Good to see you are human and almost cast the other rod in.. 🤣🤣
Tip of the day. With fish place the flesh side down first and cook the skin side last. It stops the fish from being tough especially with leather jackets.

Great video and as always very entertaining🎣🎣🍽

Looks like skinning a catfish in the US… if I’ve gotta process a bunch of them, I nail em through the skull to a post or whatever, then make my cuts to gut em slice around the fins. We use skinning pliers or I just use my nail pulling pliers so I get 2 uses out of one tool. You could probably loop around the head and have an easier pull on that skin.

when you catch it knife through the back of the head behind the spine till halfway down (unless you need to keep fish whole for size limit purposes) then grab the head and rip it off, guts stay with the head then you rub your finger under the skin to loosen it on each side then grab it and pull it off like you are pulling off a jumper, using pliers help as the sandpapery skin can rip the skin of your fingers up.
i like to cook them whole too then the meat just flakes off the bone.

Just curious about one detail, I havent got much experience with fishing but with the fishing i've done, we always used "leaders" and i don't think i've seen many of those while watching fishing videos. Are they not needed or is there another reason? I'm pretty sure some of your catches have gotten away with the line breaking? Maybe they're just more commonly used here in Sweden where i'm from.
