- In this video, you will be transported through time and space by the enchanting sound of the hymn tune Hyfrydol, played on the magnificent organ of Billerbeck Cathedral in Germany by organist Fraser Gartshore, but before we delve into the performance, let's take a brief look at the history of this beloved hymn tune.
Hyfrydol was composed in the early 19th century by the Welsh composer Rowland Huw Prichard. The tune's name translates to "pleasant" or "charming" in Welsh and has been used in many hymns across various Christian denominations. It has also been adapted for use in secular music, including the popular song "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling."
Now, back to the performance. In this video, we are treated to a stunning rendition of Hyfrydol by organist Fraser Gartshore. As the camera pans over the majestic Billerbeck Cathedral, the organ's powerful pipes fill the space with sound, creating a truly immersive experience.
Whether you're a fan of organ music, a lover of classic hymns, or simply appreciate beautiful music, sit back, relax, and let the history and beauty of Hyfrydol on the organ transport you to another world.

Thank you. My favorite hymn.
One of my top five hymns. The music and the lyrics are just THE BEST.
What are the other four?😉
Wow! Wow! Wow! 🎼🎹🎹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎹🎹
Fraser, this is my second favorite hymn tune. Unbelievably done. Thank you.
So what’s your favourite?
My favorite hymn. Thank you again. Makes my hair stand on end.
Alleluia, Sing to Jesus!
We had this tune at my mother’s funeral 20 years ago to the hymn “I will sing the wondrous story” which has the recurring refrain Yes, I'll sing the wondrous story | Of the Christ who died for me; | Sing it with the saints in glory,| Gathered by the crystal sea. A great tune beloved of us people here in Wales…..the home of great hymn tunes.
Thanks Fraser - a firm favourite both to play and sing - brings out the Celtic blood!!! :)
Truly magnificent. Thank you for sharing this. Again demonstrates how (to me) the organ is the king of instruments
Very Good Fraser 👍 +1 !!!!😊
We celebrate St.David's Day in my church as there are a lot of Welsh people on my community. So I appreciate this.
Wow, well spiced!
Wunderbar vorgetragen.
Einfach nur Klasse👍
I love love love Welsh hymns. By male choir the most but on organ it's the same solemn feeling.
My Dad's favourites too. I listen to them to remember him, and my childhood. It's strange, I don't have a faith anymore, but sacred music still seems to have more of an emotional impact on me than most secular music does.
I think this style of hymn tune brings out the awesome power of the pipe organ to demonstrate the majesty of God, while other tunes suggest a gentler side too.
Thank you, thank you! It was beautiful!
Great music and amazing player !
Sehr schön gemacht!
How do you show the organ stops as rectangular boxes of different colors on your screen? I'm using Ver. VI, and can't find how to do it on the menus. Is this a newer version? Thanks.
Delicious.
Just wondering what hardware and software you use when you livestream to RUclips?
The software is Hauptwerk, digitally sampled pipe organs. The hardware is a self-made midi console. All very simple actually!
I wasn't talking about that. I have a Hauptwerk setup myself. I was wondering what you use to Livestream live to RUclips? What device allows you to switch from live microphone to organ output?
Round here known as 'Aleluia Sing to Jesus'
