I definitely loved all : the acoustic of the church, the sound of this organ, your choices for the registration and your brilliant performance with a slightly higher tempo than usual that makes this "over played" piece to wake up and give it back his baroque native style. Bach pieces should be nicely highlighted by this particular organ. You should keep recording Bach's hits on it if you can.
I play the organ. I know many organists personally, some of whom are excellent organists. That being said, a lot of organists I have met are rather stuffy and have attitudes. It is evident when you what them play and when I have chatted with them. You are the complete opposite. Your head isn't up in the clouds. The attitude you have is very evident in your posture. Thanks for being down to earth! I love your videos. The world could certainly use more organists and musicians like you!
Audio-Aufnahmen sind also quasi-kastrierte Wiedergaben ! Aber besser so als gar nicht !!!
Gosh, Fraser, what a superbly played rendition of this oft played piece. One of the best performances I have heard, one par with Simon Preston ..different, but in a similar class. I have never heard the Fugue played so fast, but it worked..you made it look so easy! And such an inspiring instrument to perform on...thanks very much.
Thanks for this video, Fraser! It's very interesting for me, because "my" organ is quite similar: Rieger, built in 1997, 58 stops on three manuals and pedal. Warm greetings from Dinkelsbühl!
This tempo is definitely fast for my taste, but hey you know what its your interpretation that matters. Magnificent performance, and execution of this rather misunderstood piece. Thank you very much for your content Maestro Gartshore. And best regards (Matt) :) P.S. This very piece was actually composed by Bach to convey his feelings towards the unending ethereal majesty and grandiosity of heaven. Its very disappointing that many only associate this piece and the pipe organ for that matter with horror oriented films and events. When really the Pipe Organ is hundreds of chapters more than that.
You're back! And with a wonderful performance on a wonderful organ. I look forward to seeing more information and views of the organ and its surroundings in the upcoming videos.
It’s so beautiful I’ve always cried myself to the end of the fugue for 40 years. When I was a child, I listened to vinyl every day after school on Gábor Lehotka's organ playing. Over the years I have heard many kinds of toccata and fugues in D minor .... Thanks for this recording, the organ sounds beautiful! I still taste the performance :) I hope to see you in person one day!
Yes the ending of the fugue always makes me emotional. For me it’s the A major chord into the sublime A,D, Bb chord. Not sure what that chord is called?
Bravo Sir! Beautiful! Thank you. However, to fully appreciate such a splendid piece, you have to be in the church. I have vivid memories of our organist playing this music as the recessional hymn for Midnight Mass at our much smaller church and pipe organ. Nonetheless, to feel the notes hitting your body, and to feel the building vibrant and resonate with each note, essentially becoming a part of the instrument and music, simply cannot be captured in a simple audio recording. I would argue that with an acoustically well designed building, the organist is not just playing the organ, but is also playing the building. Hence the pauses are as important as the notes, allowing the listener to fully absorb the notes. Again, thank you.
So much could be said. Instrument and performer. This is an existential exposition. Yours is first div stuff. The T&F is tough - it puts you on show. The fugue tempo ( your presto!) is vital - it unlocks the 'dialogue'. Makes one phrase shouts at the next. Then the pedals have their say. Becomes a race. And by 9 minutes up - your smiles show you having a laugh having conquered. It was at that point I sort of said - well Fraser - let's see how you bring this home. And of course with this instrument - a stunning landing. Wonderful. Saved on my 'specials' file. All Saints stuff.
Everyone knows this piece from the opening bars of the Toccata, but the part of this piece which really makes it for me is the ending of the Fugue.. I cant begin to describe how the closing bars of the really push and pull especially those last few chords. I have not done music theory and only have heard of suspended and diminished chords, but I am sure there are some in there! spectacular. As always wonderfully presented and played by Fraser. Your videos are so entertaining compared to many other on organ's and organ music.
First time I see a video of yours. My compliments for the execution; you play the Toccata e Fuga in re minore at some higher tempo than what I usually ear it played, and that makes the execution notably much more difficult, but you go over it like nothing! Congratulations! Of J.S. Bach organ works, I like the Toccata Dorica even more, as it is even more spiritual. Thank you for sharing, and Regards from the UK.
Blown away! Fraser and the Rieger makes a very explosive combination! 👏 Fiercely wonderful! I'll remember this! A young organist here in SA, Winand Grundlingh, says he likes to play too fast and too loud:). Keep it up Fraser!
This is an amazing instrument. I believe that this organ is actually the largest organ in the Limburg diocese. It is definitely bigger than the Limburg cathedral organ. This has "only" 60 stops.
I really like the speed. One wants the struck notes to overlap with the reverb from the space acoustic. For me this is one of the best versions I have ever heard
Wow.
VaVaVoom! 👏👏👏🎇🧨✨🔥🔥🔥 The Fugue was too fast for my tastes, Mais c'est une question de préférence, n'est-ce pas.... The 1970+ Rieger sounds stupendous (although I wish we could have seen some shots of the beautiful organ case). Loved the 32' Kontraposaunenbaß (?) at the end. BRAVO, and thank you, Frazer.
One of the reeds on the beginning of this piece was out of tune!!! At 2:27!!! It was the D and the A on the reeds, am I correct on that??? Other than that, great performance!!!
Forgot to turn the volume down, now my house is just a pile of rubble. Totally worth it though!
My poor woofers.
Toccata: 2:15
Fugue: 4:59
One of Bach's best-known organ works played and articulated to perfection! :-)
Wow. The sound of this organ is really in your face. I love it❤❤❤❤
Wunderbare Musik, fantastische Orgel, einmaliger Organist 👍👍👍
Finally, someone plays this as a single composition, not a bunch of disconnected phrases.Thank you.
I love the beginning of the video!!! At 0:10!!! The 32 bombarde and the reeds, chamades and mixtures!!! That gives me the goosebumps!!!

Absolut toll. Mein Subwoofer wird richtig gefordert 😃
Absolument MAGNIFIQUE !!! Merci beaucoup.

Thank you for sharing.
MAG-FREAKING-NIFFICANT!!! MAN!! I enjoyed that SO much. I actually stood up from my computer and gave you a standing cyber ovation! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
What a great organ, what a great pice of music!
always a blessing to share Bach music

Superb.
There's such huge clarity from that instrument, and in the flesh those pedal notes must be bone-shaking!
Sehr gelungene Interpretation!
Danke für die 10 Minuten "abschalten! :)

Oh wow Fraser!!! Really enjoyed that. Nice interpretation on a cracking instrument!!!

Big Organ, Big Sound and a fantastic Organist. I Love this Video so much! 😍
Bravo!
Stunning!!! Gratulation!!!!
The level of excitement I felt when I read your post is indescribable! 2:32 that really woke me up!

Super schön, bitte mehr davon...😊
Great. Love the tempo and consistancy, this is the way it should be played, well done Fraser.
WOW!! Powerful performance. Tempo made it so...
Very nice ! You made it look so easy . Great sound, thanks very much for posting . Take care & stay safe now !
This is certainly one of the most fun and enjoyable performances of this piece I have heard! Thank you for sharing this recording with us.
My favourite piece played magnificently thank you.
Really amazing❤️
Bravo!
An amazing organ beautifully played as usual! Thank you so much for recording the Bach!!

Tolle Aufnahme an einer wunderschönen Orgel!
The acoustics in the church is just astounding along with your playing. BRAVO.

What an amazing performance!! You are amazing Fraser!!
That was amazing Fraser, thank you so much for that. (And me totally ignoring the warning about loud music!) 😁
141am... and my subwoofer is ratteling my seat!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) BRAVO !!!!

A mind blowing performance on a wonderful organ. Thanks, Fraser.
Wow! What a fantastic rendition of a beautiful piece of music! Thank you to both of you for this gift

WOW!!! That was fantastic. So enjoyed listening to it.
Great interpretation and performance. So fun to watch the use of both manuals. Thank you. Looking forward to more of your videos.
