I can't remember when I paid cash. The Netherlands is the number 1 in the world in paying with wearables in percentages and also in contactless payments they are in the top. Germany is a whole other story. They even have Islands where you can only pay with cash.
This shows the difference between countries in Europe, living in Scandinavia coins is almost totally history, you pay with card or mobile transfer everywhere..and I mean everywhere. I haven't used cash for the last 5 years . Not even once.
We have now a sort of mobile supermarket, it;s called Picnic, where you order online and they will deliver it on a day en time you want. From € 40 it's free delivery. Very convenient. They also take pet bottles (also from different stores) back. You just hand over a bag with the bottles and cans in it. They sort it for you and you get the money back on your account. I don't have to stand for a hour by a vending machine anymore. So nice. Are there any supermarkets in the USA who deliver at your house?
Paying cash is cheaper and the value stays the same. If I pay cash with €50,- the one who has it still got €50,-. If you pay with card there always is a fee or debit rent you or the recipient has to pay.
It isn’t free to deposit cash money either and getting coins (to have enough exchange) is very expensive as well. So it isn’t necessarily cheaper for the receiver.
Americans find everything that is not American is weird…..
Well back at you!
LOL! Totally true Sjef!

I don't even have a card on me. I always pay cash. 😊

There is also a safety aspect for the shop.
