It is an earring yes! They make perfect doll size pins/accents :D To make them even better suited as a doll broach, I cut down the stick thing at the back, and replaced the butterfly with a soft jelly like one :)
Yellow tennis shoes would be cute with that gray outfit.

Yes colour can still transfer from dark clothes. I try to avoid dark clothes on my Smart Doll. I haven't had any colour transfer yet though.
