- Over the past 25 years, chef Sean Brock has risen to the top of the culinary world, operating eight restaurants in five cities at his peak. But this year, at the age of 41, he walked away from it all. The award-winning chef spoke with “CBS This Morning” co-host Anthony Mason about why he took a break from the restaurant industry and why it's important to prioritize the mental and physical health of a restaurant's staff.

Sean deserves nothing but the best. A pure, gentle and authentic person even if I judge based on what's available to us - the general public. Since Anthony Bourdain passed, I live with the anxiety that the high-end culinary world will take away another great person far too soon. Directly and indirectly.
I was a privlled , to work as a cook under Mr. Chef Sean restraunt . I learned a lot he's amazing chef in my book . Always cheerful in my eyes .I am happy on his next menue .( The little Mexican from Ga) Ricky( thanks for having time education to teach me about the beautiful Carolina gold rice !!!!!😁
From a former cook to another...he really said it perfect..I got out of the industry because of it
.but my drive for food will always be there..preach it Sean..create the new culture I'm for it
Absolutely one of the best in the world.
God this makes me so happy. The restaurant industry is a killer and a very hard place to stay sober. Sean is a master and I'm so glad he made it out.
Clarity from health and happiness. A dream I'll never attain. Good for Sean.
A damn genius! I spent 15 years in kitchens and it can be soul destroying. I love to cook and create, but only at home in a relaxing environment for family and friends. So glad he recognized the damage it was doing and got out.
Glad he’s feeling better
I believe Brock is one of the most important cooks in the history of gastronomy, for he not only makes delicious food (never tasted it, but trust the concensus), but he cooks with historical, and sociological content, like no-one else has done until now, at least in America. Goddess bless him.
Total respect from a former chef ❤
Role model in so many ways! I love this guy so much! Hopefully we’ll hear a lot of great things from him in the future
this is the coolest guy on earth
Who knew that walking away from the restaurant business turned out to be a wise move
I love Sean Brock, but he seems so broken. Given he's still opening a restaurant in these times, I hope he finds peace.
I'm hoping Mr. Brock is still a chef and that his restaurants continue to thrive. I'm an immigrant American and have been here for 47 years. I'd love for one day to dine at his restaurant. It may be the real first time to have had American food.
Yes Husk here in Charleston, SC is one of our best restaurants... It's always packed with locals and tourists alike trying to get into that old Charleston plantation style hojss
My family has been operating restaurants for generations...my mum used to be a chef, my brother, 2 of my uncles, 3 cousins are chefs, two of them dealt with heavy alcohol addiction, both are clean now. You have to be a special kind of bonkers to be able to survive that, and at 50 you're mentally and physically finished. Especially these days when every man and his dog are restaurant critics! Now, also thanks to CoVid, there's less and less Restaurants in my area, and the ones that are left are in a lot stronger position.
toINHO timing is perfect for such a venture. I wish I lived in Nashville to patronize. Best to Sean Brock.
One of the hardest jobs there is being a chef u dont't realize the non stop stress and it adds up
Anthony Mason does the best interviews. So happy to see him get sober and thrive. It would be so sad to see him follow in his friend Anthony Bourdain's path
So talented - the restaurant industry needs to change
his pal Anthony Bourdain should of been so fortunate as this man. miss Bourdain. the guy brought me grins.
My homie
I understand It perfectly ! I wisho You the best !
Keep writing books, start a ferment condiment line
I wonder how Covid has affected the opening of his new restaurants.
It's thriving now!!
Nobody gonna talk about the couple hundred dollars worth of mushrooms in front of his house??? 3:13
so he was stressed the F out because of restaurants...and now he goes back to open another restaurant. NICE. And all that special lighting and destress room isn't going to do ANYTHING...HOW ABOUT RELIEVING STRESS BY only OPENING 3 or 4 days a WEEK, BROCK.
try not to be so negative. Ive worked at husk and it is pretty high intensity. hes simply trying to steer away from that type of restaurant
@@drewskiiiii_ ..THIS MAN IS A PERFECTIONIST. He's trying to run the best restaurant in AMERICA. he's going to go BONKERS AGAIN......Having 3 or 4 days off might just allow him to decompress even though on those days off he's going to be working also....
@@francisyang9997 Your missing the point of his restaurant. thats just not how its going to be. i feel youre being too critical about HIS life. Everything will be fine.
@@francisyang9997 I know what you mean. But give the guy a chance. He's admitting his mistakes and trying his best to fix them without just quitting! I find that very admirable as a cook who did have to quit the biz in order to save my mind.
Of course he can 'walk away' especially given he's a multi millionaire.

Sean is my cousin. He is definitely extraordinary.
