Because gravitational force is proportional to the m1×m2, If we multiply the mass of the earth and the moon it will be larger value so force between them will be larger that's why it will torn apart by gravity... In case of earth and an asteroid the multipled value will be less therefore force between them is weaker that's why it will not torn apart.... Hope you understand 😊
Kobi you are the best Science teacher who tells everything in interesting way, not like our scince teachers who tells everything so boring. You have changed my mind. JUST THANKS❤
I really enjoy listening to your channel! Your speaking is both relaxing and shows excitement for the subject, I love it. Thank you so much for being a creator ❤
This channel is honestly amazing and it has gave me love for space, the amazing planets and stars amaze me and learning new facts about space is just so cool. My favourite planet by far is J1407b, it’s magnificent. Thank you Kobi.
The "asteroid" from 2013 wasn't actually an asteroid though. It was a chondrite meteor (which are just fragments of an asteroid or comet) that was too small to be detected. In the end, most of it burned up in the atmosphere, meaning the majority of the injuries sustained by the locals were from the shattered windows caused by the shockwave of the fireball. It didn't even leave an impact crater. An actual asteroid that is big enough to cause substantial damage would be detected instantly.
'detected instantly'? Define 'instantly'? You say it as if these objects don't _already exist_ and aren't already moving through space on a trajectory determined by the laws of physics.
How AstroKobi explains stuff: Yeah so we are going to probably die tommorow to an asteroid 100x more powerful then the one that killed the dinosaurs, *but thats okay* we *may* be able to stop it.
A couple years back, at my grandparents house, I saw something exactly like that.. Orange tint, bright, light trail, a huge boom when it went out of sight. I still wonder what is was to this day, I am now wondering if what I saw that night was an asteroid..
AstroKobi you are the best. someone who I look up to and someone who gives me hope for the future. one of if not my absolute favorite channels I know you probably won’t see this comment but I just want to let you know your videos and shorts mean a lot to me. I unfortunately live in a area where light pollution is everywhere but I have always been fascinated by space and your videos have fueled it even more. one day I would like to go out to the countryside and lay on the grass fields looking up into the beautiful night sky, one day I would love to actually go to space and see Earth from there to get that external view of the world.
Seen one when I was in the army. I was at NTC (National Training Center) at Fort Irwin in Southern California. We were in the box providing communication. On a clear warm night, we were talking and looking at the stars and the crystal-clear view of the Milky Way when seen it enter our atmosphere and explode. It was the greatest thing I've seen since the Hale-Bopp comet.
Asteroids are not the problem. Most asteroids are in well behaved roughly circular orbits moving in the same direction as Earth around the Sun. We have had decades to map them and getting better all the time. For an asteroid on a known impact path we would have decades to deflect it. The real danger is a comet from the Oort Cloud. This would be detected only months before impact and has a much higher velocity than asteroids. Since kinetic energy is 1/2 mv^2 this means that a comet with the same mass as an asteroid moving twice as fast will have 4x the energy when it hits the Earth. On top of all this, the comet can be in an orbit traveling the opposite direction of Earth so the impact velocity will be almost twice as fast. This could give 8x the energy so even small, hard to detect comets could be planet killers and we would have no time to deflect them. For comparison, comet Borisov had a velocity of 175km/s while asteroid Apophis has a velocity of 31 km/s.

You might want to take a serious look at what is known locally as the Vredefort Dome (Crater) in South Africa.
