- S-bend silhouette of a woman's figure was the most desired fashion shape at the turn of XIX-XX centuries. Advertising of that time convinced that a special corset could reach the goal, but it was not soo easy in practice.
In this video I showed step by step all the layers of edwardian underwear with it's special little "secrets" which formed ideal curved figure of edwardian lady and some "hot" details of historical lingerie **place for historical dresser's expressive wink**
To see the clothes which was used in the video in details (and I bet the details are worth taking a look at!) feel free to visit victoris.shelg. Besides, there will also be an announcement of the dress I'm planning to wear over this undergarments
This video was very helpful as I'm currently writing a scene where a character needs to undress in order to show her burns from a time long ago. Thank you! Now I can be accurate with all the description etc
Why is the bustle pad worn beneath the corset and combination garment? I have never seen it be done that way before (although I must admit that I have no extensive knowledge in that area) and am curious if there is any specific reason for it being such an early layer.
I also saw people saying it's the right way to put it over the corset. And the breast pads were rather for the comfort. Because breasts are pressed flat against corsets and breast pads help to keep the conical shape and provide cushion
@@olivecherry9978 Bustle pad could be worn under the corset, too, but then the lower part of the corset was sewn with this in mind. There could also be a padding sewn into the corset at once.
Different ladies and their tailors used methods that seemed more effective to them. The main thing is to achieve a fashionable silhouette in the end.
Yeah, that is pretty strange.
Thanks for posting. Did you hand draft or use a pattern for these items? I’m particularly interested in the petticoats.
I use some 1900s drawings as a base, but those were not a ready-made patterns. So I had to adapt them to my needs
Yes! So glorious! The song sounds so familiar?
Thanks! It's piano version of Amaranth
There had to be a compromise in the number of layers for warm climates, because there is no way someone can avoid heat exhaustion wearing all these layers when the temperature rises above 30 degrees Celcius.
Hot climates would just be combinations or camisole/knickers, corset, corset cover. 3 layers
You wanna talk about heat? Come down to Egypt
most of these layers would be made from linen, which is pretty light/breathable. plus, this is english/european fashion, so it wouldn't get as hot as eg. asian/middle eastern countries
@@faithmoir1637 yes linen is rather a resource. It provides comfort when you sweat
@@AmericanImperialMenswear Don't forget at least one petticoat :)
I thought combinations were worn directly on the skin, but correct me if I'm wrong?
They could be worn in different ways, depending on the situation and the needs of the lady.
That is so many layers
Que vestidos lindos eu gostaria de experimentar amei o vídeo 👗👗👗👗👗👗
Вау, выглядит так красиво. Хоть и не практично хех. Будет интересно увидеть платье :)
I liked the music used in the video. May I know what it is?
It is Nightwish - Amaranth, but only instrumental cover
@@VictoriaShelg Thank you so much.
Victorian elegant dress + Nightwish.
What more does a man need?
Don’t feel sorry for women of the past because they wore corsets! Feel sorry for the women who lived in warm countries and would roast alive if it wasn’t winter
They would've worn summer corsets in such conditions.
