It is one of the oldest and most successful teams in Indian domestic cricket, having won the Ranji Trophy four times, in 1947-48, 1948-49, 1951-52, and 1953-54. The team is named after the Holkar dynasty, which ruled the Maratha Empire of Indore State from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Holkar Cricket team of Indore is one of the greatest team of Ranji Trophy. Holkar team was 6 time runners-up of Ranji Trophy. Holkar cricket team always backed by the Holkar Rulers specialy Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar 2nd.
