Remember the first time you were in a game of D&D and you slew a freakin’ dragon? What if all combat encounters gave you those feelings? Monsters are central to D&D, whether we’re fighting them or fleeing from them. Dungeon Masters can never have enough monsters. It's a thrill to describe a wave of angry bandits charging over a hill, or a reality-warping gibbering mouther to a group of friends immersed in an adventure.
Flee, Mortals! presents a unique approach to monster design full of threats of all shapes and sizes with synergizing stat blocks, companion creatures and allies who level up alongside the heroes, and encounters that are as fun for a DM to plan as they are for adventurers to play.
339 stat blocks for monsters, with rules for minions, companions, retainers, and more!
Variants for classic monsters that make building encounters more fun with endless combinations for play.
Special abilities for monsters that will surprise your players and make for more immersive play!
Rules for special villain actions that make a single creature capable of taking on a party of adventurers alone!
Let your players feel like epic heroes by cutting through seas of enemies with rules for handling minions.
If not friend, why friend shaped? New rules for pet companions!
Why can’t we be friends? Rules for retainers for players that want a little goblin buddy or other kind of follower.

Me, Flortles!
woah you can't just be showing everyone your flortles! :D
This is such a big win! Glad to have it reaching even broader audiences (and sparing me the toil of adding magic items as "homebrew"!)
You don’t smell toast, do you?
@@DimaJeydar No you eat it.
@@mcolville right, my bad!
Surprising, but makes a lot of sense. Congrats to the MCDM team!
Leashes & Lashes.
Why so surprising?
Seriously, this is the last dndbeyond brand collaboration I would have ever expected
@@CamJacobson why? They're very popular
“The Surprise”
Hasbro recently caused a big stink regarding their IP and the OGl, right before the wintry holidays the company fired 1,000+ people including people, including the lead designer for D&D. The company is behind in production of D&D 5.5, and I would wager the publisher needs something to sell right now, ergo third party superstars it is!
Now I just need The Illrigger and The Talent on Dndbeyond
The Beastheart is also nothing to sleep on!
There's a lot of sinergy between the books and class suplements, Flee Mortals has companions for the Beastheart and some monster have psionic manifestations that the Talent can learn. I hope they can work something out for those too.
Unfortunately the Talent and Illrigger would be a large engineering issue for the dndbeyond application. The Beastheart might actually be relatively doable however. Beastheart would be a great follow up from Flee Mortals as well with the additional companions and monsters from the book.
@@tristanrast246How do powers interact with DndBeyond from Flee Mortals? If they work there, they should be able to implement it from the Talent.
@@DTKirby. It's funky. In Monster Stat Blocks, there's not nearly as much relational data. So like, as a Character, you have a class, which has a bunch of features, and you have a subclass, which has a bunch of features. Some of the features have options, so on and so forth. For monsters, you basically just write whatever you want in the "Actions" and "Bonus Actions" block, and then you go into the process of figuring out how to add their markdown-like dice codes so that their system can render things like +7 to Hit as a clickable that will roll dndbeyond dice. But it doesn't track anything like availability and resource consumption, and its recharge system is basically just another clickable die.
By contrast, the PC classes do track all that stuff, and they do it with these different bits of relational data. At one point, it was really old school linq-to-sql stuff, but I think before BadEyeAdam left, they were working on moving to a DocumentDb, probably Mongo or one of the PaaS providers' wrappers around it. I think that's how the character sheets are more customizable than the classes now, where you can add a bunch of custom actions and feats and whatever else right there in the sheet, as opposed to homebrewing it all.
But when WotC decided to do PHB24, I would bet they pivoted away from new ways to customize character options and looked more to focusing on Maps and the things that make Maps functional. If I put my tinfoil hat on, the big 3rd party push is a fascinating case, because every 3rd party module that adds monsters or maps to dndbeyond functionally adds stuff that dndbeyond can likely use in their new Maps product, which makes it a compelling argument as a one-stop-shop. Thus, it makes the most sense for them to "recruit", so to speak, mostly from 3rd party sources that aren't as heavily laden w/ character options.
Tinfoil hat off, tldr: Probably a huge pain to implement the Talent or Beastmaster or any of the other classes. Plus, all of those will ultimately be going into MCDM's own game, where they will make considerably more sense, so MCDM is a little disincentivized to put them on other platforms.
This is handsdown the best monster book there is for 5e. No competition.
Matt Colville's action-oriented monsters have become a staple of my DM tableau. 💛
This
This is amazing. I had no idea that when I was backing it on Kickstarter, that it would become my most loved set of dnd books ever. The monsters are so incredibly well designed and so much thought and care has been put into each stack block that it makes it easy and a pure joy for me to run. I happily purchased these on DND beyond just because it’ll make it simpler to use my games. But also because I’m happy to give MCDM more of my money because they are an amazing team of people.
Best vampires ever.
I did not have THAT on my bingo card :O
Nobody did. 😂
Best DM'ing resource right here 10/10.
Will we get MCDM classes on DND Beyond similar to how the Bloodhunter is already on there?
idk how much of my money is going to MCDM here but im buying this to support since i already bought it off their platform!
Flee, Mortals! is probably the single most used dnd book for me these days. The monsters are absolutely amazing!
Used the Hallowed Dark last week with my group. They loved it. Really added a punch to the session.
whoooooo! Can't wait for MCDM's class bundle to be added next
Yeah the headless giant is so fun. I didn't think I needed the retainers or the companions until I tried Flee Mortals. Haven't head the courage to run the villain parties, but they are an amazing project non the less. My favorite things are the elementals though. They work so well together. Also love the Voiceless Talkers as individual creatures.
I own this book physically its great. Highly recommended.
I can use it with maps and encounters, Awesome!
-Maps and monsters that can be used with D&D BEYOND's Encounter Builder and Maps!
I love this book it is one of my favorites
"Bundle Flee, Mortals! with Where Evil Lives for just $59.99. Discount applied in cart." But the other book isn't up/announced yet.
Here is the link Order Where Evil Lives on dndbeyond.link/order_whereevillive
@@DnDBeyond Is there any sort of key or discount for those of us that already purchased the books from supporting the crowd funding for the books? Or do we have to pay full price for the books a second time?
@@facexpalm First time? There will be no discount for the online content based on previous purchases.
@@jdcoy What do you mean by "First time?"? But anyways yeah thats a bummer. A lot of us backed Flee Mortals and Where Evil Lives. So we would have to purchase the books a second time for a digital copy on DnD Beyond.
@@facexpalm I think it's the meme. From context, one imagines this ain't the first time you have to buy things again on Dnd Beyond
Definitely a juicy addition for DND Beyond
Glad to see this kind of direction for the site
I’m so stoked to see this, I’ve been trying to build homebrew on dnd beyond just to mimic some of these designs because of how slick they are!
Really surprised by this. I love this book so much and legit might buy it again just for DnDBeyond. I'd love to see their classes make it on DnDBeyond as well.
Flee mortals is my go-to monster book. Really happy to see that more people will be using it via dnd beyond 😊
I literally could not hit the PURCHASE button fast enough................ THANKS FOR THIS!!!!!!
This is great! Matt Colville and MCDM just do amazing work!!
arggghhh!!!! Congrats to MCDM but I already bought the hardcover and pdf for this from MCDM.
Was flipping back and forth through the pages during my session last week and now I can use it on my screen this next week! Great book, very excited.
Backed Flee, Mortals! whem it dropped on KS! AMAZING monsters that feel different but can still have that classic vibe.
I got Flee, Mortals! a month ago and now this drops. If only I waited a bit longer.
Wow, huge news. Happy to see 3rd party publishers in the spotlight. Big ups to the MCDM crew!
Can you add in the Beastheart and Illrigger classes associated with "Flee, Mortals!" There seems to be a whole segment that references it but it's not even selectable. If we could create custom classes I'd have added it in myself for my players.
Glad he called out and has alternatives against the magnetic combat that plagues D&D.
Epic! Now lets hope for the classes to be implemented ( the talent, illrigger, beastheart!
0:56 Finally, buff Gremlins!
Thank the Lord.
This is the most excited I've been for third party content being added to DnDBeyond! I would really love to see MCDM classes available, such as the Beastheart and Illrigger.
LETSSSS FCKIIING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Was just pondering if I should buy this from the MCDM site as a pdf, even though I run everything on dndbeyond and would have to customize all the monsters in the system. Could not have been timed better!
ps. big thx matt Colville for your series, helped me a lot in the DM early days around 5 years ago.
Wait, really?! Hell yeah!!
YESSSSSS!!!
OMFG SO COOL!!!
I am so thrilled about this. Well done!
MCDM Talent class on D&D Beyond when?
I know it would be a ton of work, but the MCDM Talent is downright brilliant, and I would love to see it added to DnD beyond!
Love this but I bought the physical copy back when it came out
Me Flortals!
Can't go wrong with this book!
I’m loving all the 3rd party stuff. Just wish that odyssey of dragonlord would come to dndbeyond.
Yessssss
This is amazing
I wonder hwo the references to the other mcdm stuff like the talent, beastheart, and kingdoms and the like that are in this book will work, are they still there or have they been removed since those can only be bought on the mcdm platform with no ddb support.
Oh HHHEEELLLLLL yes
Hell yeah! Guess I gotta get my DnD beyond subscription back
Literally the worst time to do that.
I LOVE IT! Next month, I’m buying it. With vigor.
Will the Talent and Psionic be on D&D Beyond ? It is required to use the psionic powers
I just bought both books, but everytime I try to access it I just get redirected to the Marketplace showing me the "You own this digital product"
Do the Kickstarter backers get the digital asset for free or for discount?
But if i bought the books, do i get this for free?
They are different projects from different companies, so no.
No way
*flees*
~_~
WotC won't accept Australia for digital+physical bundle buying...WTF!?
I love mcdm. I love everything you guys do... But I'd rather be f**ked by a rust monster than give money to dnd beyond right now.
Right before WOTC kills DDB, perfect timing.
🤔 still trying to figure out the play here. This is really surprising.
this is great to bad the ddb marketplace is a nightmare to sort now
Great! but i still want to see more player oriented 3rd party content. The DM ressources are pretty saturated by comparisson.
This seems like a horrible misplay from MCDM, but it's their content to license I guess.
i got this as my group crowd fund all the books but if it was just me, this is one i wouldnt of bought
so many niggles, the lay out, the tone it takes, all the odd/new rules etc
I've gotten used to the tome of beasts 'here's your monsters, have fun' approach to things
some of the monsters are cool and a lot of the art is awesome but there is so much rehash for the sake of it, personally would give it 4/10 would be higher if i didnt already own monster manuals that are superior
