The song is ACTUALLY written in 1989 after the reunification of Germany. It’s just that animating a whole season took them years, and they also had to write other songs too.

Actually, the lyrics were recorded in 1990 - 1991 and it took quite a while to animate, but when the Soviet Union collapsed they decided to keep it because...

Some standards use a U as a marker of places that "Used to be USSR" because standards don't change.
What really ticked me off was that he forgot about South Africa out of all countries in the original 1993 version. Yet, he still got Lesotho and Swaziland/eSwatini.
I think that this might actually be deliberate as back in 1990-1991ish(when the song was likely written) South Africa was still under Apartheid and was thus isolated from most of the international community, so not mentioning it might be reflecting that in some way

As someone old enough to have watched the bit in its proper context back in 1990-whatever, I figured then and am fairly confident now that this was all just an elaborate prank on the FCC's standards for children's programming. I got a good laugh out of it while also being simultaneously very impressed.
Today, I just appreciate it for being as accurate as it is given the above context.
I think of the song as just places not necessarily countries and it makes it a lot easier for me

I still dont 100% understand the situation with individual sections but i believe the Uk is made up of Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland as individual sections of the United Kingdom. Because the government for the UK is (afaik) located in England, the specific confusion stems from the fact that people cant differentiate between the King/Queen of England and the UK parliament and Prike minister.
When Yakko says “Asia” he taps te board twice, whereas when he says a country, a country lights up. He did not call Asia a country. It was just to fill in the rhyme.

i love how he only talked about the sins in the lyrics, not how the countries are drawn. keep in mind, we only had cel animation back in the day and it's REALLY hard to draw a map perfectly by hand.

The strange thing is that Yakko doesn't sing North and South Korea separately, even though the two are clearly separated on the map he's using. So the mistake is pretty much certainly intentional.

I think Yakko was just trying to add as many existing landmasses, including islands and colonies, to make a cool rhyme. It works because any kid curious about all these places can go and do research even if the places aren't all countries.

But, since it's a 1993 song you covered in 2019, i'll take that as a blessing to comment despite being so late.
Without further ado, inspired by the video I too shall be nitpicky! To quote you, "Palestine is a tricky subject and half the world says it's a country while the other half does not so I won't criticize it for that".
As of 31st of July 2019 (five days after this video aired) 138 out of 193 UN member states recognize palestine. Thats 71,5%! That's almost three quarters, not half. Bare in mind that also, that is "only" 26 less than Israel, which is recognized by 164 member states.
On the other hand, you didn't zip a word about Kosovo. As of september 2020, 97/193 countries recognize her as independent. That is 50.26%, much much closer to "half" than palestine. On top of that, It used to be 112 but 15 countries withdrew their recognition, and there are rumors that by 2022 a further ten states will do the same, which would lover Kosovo below the half margin.
Of course, I don't mean to criticize the analogy, because if Palestine got a free pass for being partially recognized, Kosovo should too. But The discrepancy in terminology is a pet peeve of mine.
And given the same rationalization, we could argue that Crimea could be on the list as a disputed state with de facto self-governing institutions, albeit they are very temporary. Or Turkish Cyprus, only recognized by Turkey.
This isn't a serious comment, just a comment in the spirit of the video. Kudos Tigerstar!

Even so, there is a new revamped Verison
The song was written between the reunification of Germany and Kampuchea changing into Cambodia. Also they started the entire first season that same time. And back then a lot of those countries weren’t there yet. Meaning other than Caribbean Algiers Tibet, and some others, they were accurate or just using things to fill a rhyme like Korea, Transylvania, and the main islands of Indonesia. It’s harder to write a song about all the countries while still having good rhyme, than it is to just list all the countries.

You could review the 2021 version. It actually fixes a lot of mistakes and adds new/renames countries like Eswatini
You shouldn't have counted 'Burma' as incorrect, as the name 'Myanmar' has always been controversial and the Prime Minister of Burma/Myanmar Aung Sang Suu Kyi has stated that foreigners are free to use either term.
I think the US was still using Burma in 1993. I think it only started using Myanmar in the Obama years

A small remark: You ignored the animation, the song by itself does have inaccuracies, but some of those are corrected by the animation. for example, when he says Asia, he makes a circular gesture around the continent, when he says the Caribbean, the whole Caribbean sea lights up, and the same for Indonesia.
I could forgive that if the title of the song wasn't *NATIONS* of the World 😅
(And yes, I am aware that there's ambiguity in the definition of "nations" as well, since I am a member of several sports fan bases that call themselves "nation," so don't point that out and use it against me 😁)

No. Great Britain is an island. It is made up of 3 'nations' - England, Scotland, and Wales. England is often used to mean all of the UK, because it has the largest population.

The difference being that a country can technically be considered a semi-legal entity meanwhile a nation is a country recognized by the U.N. Therefore the distinction between a nation and a country is that one is recognized by the U.N and one isn't. So Britain as a whole is a recognized _nation_ whilst England, Scotland and Wales are the _countries_ that make up the _nation_ .

Another mistake I found in the Dutch version which is pretty ironic: he refers to the Netherlands as "the Benelux". The Dutch verision gets the Netherlands wrong.

The song says stuff like Asia and Caribbean not to refer to all the countries within that category, but rather that the country being referred to is in either Asia or the Caribbean. It doesn't mean the song is wrong.

If I'm not mistaken the names Burma and Myanmar are related to the political regimes the Burmese went/are at, as in Myanmar being a more Buddhist Oriented Democracy and Burma relating to British rule or the mid cold war Stratocracy. They changed the name around not because of cosmetics, but because of politics.
Which means the 2017 song calling Myanmar Burma would be like calling modern Germany the German Empire, or something like that.

It seems like they prioritized flow of how the song could be sung over accuracy, which is generally acceptable for a song, and in some ways making a song catchy enough children might repeatedly listen or sing it can be better for helping learn than an accurate listing of every country. It is not like there many better on including a higher number of country names.
