    When i found these same insights in my own personal study that is when it really hit me that the Mormon church does not really believe in the Book of Mormon. Rather they have a religion created of the doctrines if men, mingled with scripture.

    Thank you for doing this. I have been wanting to do this for a while now.
    I served my church mission in Sweden and the swedish rescue happened after my time there. Many families fell away at the same time. I am friends with them on Facebook. Now that I have fallen away from the utah lds corporation I enjoy exchanging Ideas with them. I am affraid the lies about Joseph Smith have ruined the book of Mormon for many of them.

      I'm so glad you commented and shared about your Swedish mission. Thank you!
      The story of the Swedish Rescue had a big impact on me as I was first struggling with the doubts I had over things I was discovering with the church. As I told RGP, I felt such a loss and a pain at the way the LDS church handled that fiasco. It seemed so heavy-handed and deceptive - like everything they did was the exact opposite of what Christ would have done - and the LDS leaders involved reminded me of the apostate Zoramites who secretly sought out the names of those who believed in Alma and Amulek and then cast them out.
      I'm glad to hear you are keeping in contact with your friends there. It's hard to blame anyone from that disaster for not believing in anything anymore - would we? - but maybe the Lord will someday do a second, real, Swedish rescue. It would be cool if you got to play a part. 🧡

    Whew, what a relief! Do you mean living a simpler Gospel is better than the current confusing one? Including "you're never good enough," and be sure to always remember to put men upon pedalstals? I agree!
    In my opinion, to firstly focus on the attitude of becoming a child with the attitude of a broken heart and contrite spirit, will make the path even simpler. The amazing thing about humility is that it's something we could increase our understanding of every day for the rest of our lives. As a wise person once called that "radical humility," which seasons perfectly all other Christian virtues.

    Yes thanks for that. He sums up the the second great commandment by breaking it down for us so we can better understand what he envisions life for us to be. I do disagree that he removed the 10 commandments. Rather he amplified a higher law that encompasses the last 6 commandments. The first 4 commandments are separate and still in force in my opinion. It is keeping the first 4, or trying to that makes us become as a little child. The last 6 or as you said the 15 are there to show how how a child with a broken heart & contrite spirit will live. Abinadi clearly went over the commandments with King Noah. Mormon chose to give us these after Jesus ministry so they must still apply. For instance the Sabbath day. That is Saturday form sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. I started doing this 4 weeks ago and it is a truly an amazing experience. Rome changed worship to the pagan day SUNday. Idols? we have them everywhere from idolizing men in religion, sport and politics to Christus and apostles statues. Even the new logo with Christus is an idol. Temples? Having no other Gods before him, well it is obvious by how we now live that Baal is our God just as much as it was for those in the Saviors day. Taking the name of God in vain, we think of swearing but what of teaching falsehoods in his name and claiming authority to do it. Even the name on the church is not authorized since he took his name from the church in 1832. We went from Church of Christ to Church of Latter Day Saints. The way we have it now is from Brigham. I wish an Abinadi figure would come and speak to King Noah again. They could not see their error and we cannot either even though Nephi, Moroni and the Messiah tell us of our awful state. The Book of Mormon is both a guide and a brutal warning.

      Good thoughts Rick. I have a question, where did Mormon give us the 10 commandments after Jesus' ministry? I'm curious if I'm not at that part of my reading yet. Do you have a reference?

      @@MormonRescue Poorly worded. Mormon chose what to give us in the Book of Mormon from Mosiah onward including the words of the Messiah. So he chose to put a huge focus on Abinadi of which the whole conversation with Noah was about keeping the laws of God and the commandments. Abinadi actually goes through each one. Since Mormon put this together about 400 years after the Messiah then he was aware of what both Abinadi taught and what the Messiah taught too. I guess for me if I see Mormon included something then it was something he wanted us to have and felt was of utmost importance. Sorry for wording that poorly. Thanks for laying out the Beatitudes that we more or less ignore.

    don't resist evil? and we are told to judge that we might know good from evil.

    • @MormonRescue
      @MormonRescue  9 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah, those were big questions marks in my mind. It seems like I'd always been taught by the LDS church that resisting evil was fine, and as for judging - we are the best in the world at it. I was even called as a "judge in Israel," and to my shame, was required to judge others. I pray for forgiveness for that.
      But I don't know, the Book of Mormon seems to paint a very different picture. Not only did Christ say from his own mouth, "Judge not," but I was just reading this morning in Mormon 8 where mormon says:
      Mormon 8:20 "Behold what the scripture says--man shall not smite, neither shall he judge; for judgment is mine, saith the Lord, and vengeance is mine also, and I will repay."
      So that leaves me with the question, where did this notion that we were supposed to judge others come from? Do you know of any scriptures I'm missing? Thanks for your insights.

      @user-ql2id3ml3i 9 месяцев назад +4

      Mormon 7:16 For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.
      17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.
      As for not resisting evil, I think we need to understand what he was actually saying there because the opposite of resist is surrender and I don't think he wants us to do that.
      In the old testament he talks about getting along with others in that society but it came across as a survival technic while they spread His gospel.
      By the way, your videos are great and I really like the one about iniquity and basically ... all of them. The neighbor one you did with an interview was very helpful as we all seem to be going through the same thing. @@MormonRescue

      @@user-ql2id3ml3i Perfect! I think both of those scriptures teach us how to judge "things" ( "every *thing* which inviteth", "whatsoever *thing* persuadeth").
      So perhaps the difference is that we are to judge "things" but not judge people? Is that your takeaway?
      I was also reading this morning in Mormon about the topic of resisting evil. Mormon said, speaking to our day, " 4 Know ye that ye must lay down your weapons of war, and delight no more in the shedding of blood, and take them not again, save it be that God shall command you." (Mormon 7:4)
      That last phrase, "save it be that God shall command you," jumped out at me. Perhaps that was why Moroni told Pahoran the Lord had commanded them to resist evil. So my question is, has he commanded us to resist evil? Or are we under the command not to?
      Difficult questions to wrestle with.

      The anti-Nephi-Lehi's practiced non-resistance, and then God commanded them to flee to the safety of the nephites so they wouldn't be completely destroyed. I think it's ok to defend our families based upon The Book of Mormon. But never offensively. And always seeking peace and preserving life through any means possible.

    An interesting contrast with the evangelical Law vs. Gospel paradigm. That view holds that because of mankind's inborn propensity to sin, we are unable to keep the 15 commandments (Law) perfectly. Our only recourse is to flee to Christ in faith and repentance thereby to be covered by His sacrificial perfect keeping of the Law in our place. The Gospel is what Christ does for us, not what we do to attain salvation. Only through Christ can we find release from the burden of sin. The sermon on the mount Mt 5-7, is Law to show what we ought to do, but cannot because of our sin nature.

    • @mjr0516
      @mjr0516 9 месяцев назад +4

      I agree. I was raised LDS - and most of us do not really understand the Evangelical belief of salvation, the miracle of Christ's gift, or the born again experience. And this is because of how ingrained this idea of obedience, progression and striving is in the LDS.
      LDS mischaracterize evangelicals in a "just say you believe" mentality. As if they don't care about God's commandments or try to keep them or think they are unimportant - when that's actually not true! (Generally speaking)
      I have learned this through my own experience with Jesus.
      I lost my testimony of everything I ever believed in 2011 when the LDS Church came tumbling down for me. I lost my belief in EVERYTHING, a lifetime of building - gone - in a matter of minutes. It was shocking, dark, and scary.
      I tried to simply push it away and tried for 12 years to regain my testimony in the same way I had originally built it. Which was impossible at first, to meager at best over time. Until I came to a point of futility - I was ready to give up trying, thinking that it didn't matter what anyone believed. Simultaneously, however, the spirit has been working on me in the back of my heart - to lay down all my idols and my heart in complete trust before Christ (not easy to do). To let go and put it all in His hands. Which I did do (in my heart).
      And that very same day within an hour or two - God started working in my life, waking me up to the truth, leading me on this path I am on.
      I was initially filled with His spirit to the point where I thought my body was going to explode off of my spirit (this was the moment when I had my testimony of The Book of Mormon returned) and I was filled with joy and love for others. That has faded with time however and I'm not sure why. But I do believe that we must come to Christ within. We must lay down all our pride and our idols before Him. But must see our brokenness and come kneel before the master - begging for mercy - with all our hearts. For He is the only one who can save.
      But then, when we are baptized by His Spirit and changed - we seek to know His true commandments - like they were so beautifully explained in this video - and to do them all, because our only desire to is serve Him and please Him BECAUSE He has saved us.
      Hence we keep the commandments out of gratitude and love, not obligation. This has been a very difficult thing to get myself to believe even though I experienced it myself. It can be difficult to let go and actually trust that Christ has got my salvation. And I can rejoice in that.

      I agree. I see those things outlined as more guidelines for living if you wish to follow Christ. Christ doesn’t force anyone. It is an invitation. Mormons are indoctrinated with a commandment psyche which is closely tied to the infallible prophet style leadership.

      @ron3537 9 месяцев назад +1

      Telavian, you bring up a good point. I think if everyone woke up with a desire to take on that charge, the world would be a much better place! But when we talk about loving everyone, I think we also need to add in for context, the times Christ didn't show the typical kind of "love", such as in the Temple when He pulled out the bull whip... and when He was dealing with hypocrites. I think in our lives, we may need to make "righteous judgments", if put in similar occasional situations. For example, those engaging in different kinds of abuse, etc.
      But imo, if there's any degree of uncertainty, we should always error on the side "Christ-like" love for all.

      John 14:15 KJV - If ye love me, keep my commandments.
      We keep them because we love Him who loved us first.
      It is blasphemy to suggest that Christ's redemptive power isn't enough, that our own merit has anything to do with salvation.

    #14 Reconcile...
    Isn't it interesting that we need to be reconciled back to our Heavenly Father. Yet... we are taught that coming to earth was a rightous decision... curious... very curious indeed.
    Our separation from God is ALWAYS because of our own doing.
    Isaiah 59:1 ¶Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
    2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
    Alma 42:12 And now, there was no means to reclaim men from this fallen state, which man had brought upon himself because of his own disobedience;
    Our primary call to repentance was due from our heavenly rebellion when we left our 1st estate.

    Lets start with the fact you still call us Mormons. Disrespectful. It's not our name. Second, you stated to not judge. Well, isn't that what this video is? Third, the 10 commandments are still in force. They were simply added onto for a higher understanding and law. 4th. I believe in prophets. You are no prophet. I see what you do and reject all of your premise. There are many commandments to follow and they are not exclusive to "The Mormons." You need to repent of your deception and assumption that you are the one authority by which everyone should heed. You're not. Thats all I have to say. Have a great day!

      MR has never claimed to be a prophet and has been very clear about only finding answers in The Book of Mormon. As the Church and its members become the anti-Mormons, it is a relief! Those who cling to The Book of Mormon as the iron rod can distinctively describe themselves as Mormons. A deep and humble study of The Book of Mormon and Bible will absolutely help us judge righteously (Moroni 7) and discern true prophets!

    I’m still struggling with understanding “fulfilled”. Surely we can’t make graven images or worship any other gods or take the lord’s name in vain right? But I don’t believe keeping the Sabbath Day holy is still a thing. We find “rest” in the Savior and that should be *every* day. That was part of the Law of Moses anyway so….im still confused.🙈 Idk why I’m struggling to understand this so much. Thanks for your presentations, Matt! They have helped me so much on my journey!

      Thanks Summer! Yeah, the fulfilled thing is hard to understand for me too. This video and "Hingepoint" are my best attempt at understanding it, but I realize my take might be different than most.
      Big hints to me that the 10 were done away are: 1) Abinadi's reference to the 10 commandments as the law of Moses that Jesus said he had fulfilled, 2) clear examples where Jesus said "of old time it was said...but I say" to distinguish the law of Moses from his new commandments, 3) no mention of the Sabbath day, honoring parents, idols, name of god in vain, etc. I just believe as I read that it was a seismic shift.
      It seems that the biggest change that occurred was that his commandments went from mostly personal to mostly interpersonal, or relational. I would be interested to get your take on it.
