  • Atlanta got some work done over the off-season. It got fresh new asphalt, more banking, a narrower racing surface, and a new package, all with the purpose of becoming a superspeedway. But Why? Why Is Atlanta Becoming A Superspeedway? Let’s talk about it.

    that pit road is going to be scary since the track is still a 1.5 mile oval unlike daytona and talladega where the pit road is SUPER easy to get onto.
    also i feel like with the added banking the racing would be better with the 670hp 4 inch spoiler package but lets wait and see.....

    Atlanta Superspeedway should still be Atlanta Motor Speedway in my opinion. The track should have been repaved not reconfigured. I believe they should have left Atlanta alone and turn Texas into the superspeedway. Homestead-Miami is definitely the best 1.5 mile track in NASCAR. I just hope Atlanta Superspeedway is not an embarrassment for NASCAR and puts on a great product.

      Agree 110% they took one of the most distinctive tracks on the circuit where you can run multiple lines and completely ruined it if they were going to do experiment like this they should have took one of the other cookie cutter mile-and-a-half race tracks like Kansas or Kentucky and possibly tried it there and secondly why would you take a track that all the drivers loved and change it it just doesn't make good sense NASCAR continues to make bad bad decisions

      Didn’t you hear about the water coming out of track problem? The track was suffering from that type of stress under the roads. It had a fire catch on the roadway from a jet dryer. So they had to redesign with newer materials to prevent problems it had from its first 24 years of operation.

    One reason to not go to a short track is that like Auto Club NASCAR is not the only form of racing there. The road course that would be removed in the case of a short track being built is used for club events.

    I think this makes Atlanta a prototype for a mini-Super speedway. It will be interesting if we have the higher speeds, and pack racing, but in a smaller venue with faster lap times. This could play very interesting into green-flag pit strategies. I'm going to hold my judgement, but I kind of like, at least in theory, the idea of a mini-Super Speedway (maybe call it a pocket Super Speedway?). If anything, it will keep Atlanta unique.

    • @JettMDK

    Obviously they're two different leagues, but Indycar tried the "superspeedway style racing on a 1.5 mile track" package in 2011 and it ended with the worst motorsports tragedy since Earnhardt. Trying to race a 1.5 mile track like a superspeedway has a history of being dangerous so I'm a bit nervous about this one.

    I don't think we're going to see pack racing like we do at Daytona and Talladega. I think the turns are still too tight for that. What I expect to happen is the pack will stay together and positions will shuffle around, but the leader will be impossible to pass. That's what we saw at the 2-mile ovals when they brought in the 550 package.

    Should a driver make a pass below the yellow line, they will be penalized. This is the first time AMS will utilize the double yellow-line rule after its reconfiguration in an effort of making the racing closer together.

    Hey I wanna ask a question. What's your take on the ideas if nascar turning every track into a super speedway, getting rid of those damn restricter plates, or making each track different shape like square, diamond, octogon, ects. Also what do you think of nascar making the stock cars kinda like touring stock cars? Big wings in the back and automatic Jacks. Lastly what about getting rid of Toyota in nascar and bringing back Dodge so nascar can be the battle of the Muscle Cars again like in times of old.

    • @JFein
      @JFein 2 года назад +1

      Almost none of these things will ever happen.
      - Only having super speedways would kill the the sport, super speedways are entertaining to watch because they’re not the norm, but a season of only pack racing would be a farce.
      - Restrictor plates (or some kind of bhp restriction) will never go away, speeds are too fast and the danger is too high without them
      - The most unique shape you’ll ever see on the oval front in NASCAR is Pocono, a triangle. Anything beyond that and you’re basically just on a shitty road course. I could see a square “oval” maaaybe happening, but it would need to be huge to make the racing work in modern Cup cars, and it seems highly unlikely.
      - Making stock cars like touring or GT cars by adding wings and such would also kill the sport. Drivers would be flat out everywhere, like a poor man’s version of indycar. Stock cars are cool precisely because they don’t generate massive amounts of downforce and you really have to wheel them. Hydraulic jacks could happen one day though!
      - Toyota will leave NASCAR the day it stops making them money, which is basically when we’ll know the sport is on its death bed. They’re not going anywhere until then. I would love to see more manufacturers involved in the sport, but it certainly won’t be because Toyota pulled out

    • @racingray5450

      @@JFein We duh. I understand that it probably won't happen but every time I'm on RUclips someone is talking about Nascar being terrible and worse then what it was when it started. I'm just thinking about it because it's fun. Will it happen and will it really be that bad if it did? Idk. Just want Nascar to be at it's best like it was in the past but new so people can actually watch and like it and not get bord half way through. Idk. Just asking questions. I do agree with some things.

    • @JettMDK
      @JettMDK  2 года назад

      Well turning every track into I superspeedway or tracks that are meant to create pack racing would be a bad for the sport since no tracks can differentiate itself. It’s okay having superspeedway racing as long as it’s kept as a specialty and not an every week thing.
      Getting rid of the restrictor plates or now it’s tapered spacers would be good because it would eliminate pack racing and the closeness of cars and prevent less crashes and cars getting airborne but it would never work since NASCAR is all about entertainment.
      Making each track a different shape would be cool I think, it adds a unique twist and makes tracks stand out more.
      I think making the cars look more like touring stock cars is good because it resembles a lot more to the production cars (expect for the wings) and touring stocks are usually less aero sensitive so it’s better for racing.
      And I think getting rid of Toyota would be very bad for NASCAR since Toyota helps expand the sport on an international platform and some of the most popular cars on the road are Toyota or at the very least more relevant than Dodge. Dodge coming back would be great but Toyota has helped promote NASCAR in a big way and it would not do the sport any good getting rid of it.

    • @JettMDK
      @JettMDK  2 года назад

      It depends on the situation with some tracks Might need a whole change in its configuration based on attendance or just lack of good racing regardless of the package. Now there are a lot of other factors that play into it like promoting the event correctly or the date and time of race also matter but for some tracks it makes sense.
      As for bringing back old tracks, if there is enough hype behind bringing a track back to life and it’s still in somewhat decent condition because sometimes bringing back an old track depending on its condition can sometimes cost more than just reconfiguring an existing and stable track

      I’ve been to races at Martinsville, Michigan a few times, Indianapolis, Road America, And Atlanta. Are used to go to the race is at Milwaukee. The best racing was it had at Atlanta by far, I was there in 2002. The racing was very fast in Indianapolis and Michigan. I like the high speed and less restriction on the engines like with the too often utilized restrictor place. Martinsville was great short track racing and Milwaukee was almost ready to host the race I believe with better racing than New Hampshire but the owners that took control of the Milwaukee mile had very little idea what they were doing. I had a roommate and friend that interviewed there for a financial advisor position and was apalled. Atlanta was the best of the “cookie-cutter tracks “but was rather similar to Texas in Charlotte. I’m not sure what type of product they’re going to get with narrower racing surface and I miss the old three and four wide Atlanta lines that they would run. It looks like the best racing is going to be left at Michigan from my local area and now we have the Road America race here. I like the move towards the road courses and I hope that they drop the restrictor plate in Atlanta as soon as possible.
