Totally world standard and professional and so Aussie Skyhooks were. One of the greatest bands in Australia’s pop rock history, sadly missed especially Shirl, but certainly will never be forgotten.
Terrific. Lucky enough to have met Greg Macainish in the old Barn or something it was called, in Melbourne back in 1988. Peter McNamara RIP was walking around with his beautiful girlfriend, fiance or wife (?) and keeping a close eye on her too 🤠 Spent a couple of hours at the bar with Greg just shouting each other pints and talking music and Skyhooks. He said, and I agreed, Ego was a better album than Living in the Seventies. A couple of classics for sure. Anyhow a totally down to earth bloke. Hope he is well 🍻. Very talented boys for sure. Shirl, unforgettable. RIP.
This brings back some great memories! Fancy relying on just 16 tracks! Those first two albums had excellent production for an aussie recording. And a Daddy Cool legend was producing them! How good is that! Red was a pretty good guitarist, didn't realise he could play decent keys as well. Great doco.
Excellent documentary! This is just what I've been looking for! I still have this on one of my VHS tapes, but haven't found it yet, due to a broken VCR.
Love it at 11:09 hearing and seeing Red play this is absolutely mint! How fast are his fingers going and what the heck kinda style is that? Certainly not Pentatonic :)
Bloody fantastic!! Can't believe how good this is to watch, all the little bits that go together to make up the whole. Tingles up & down the spine material! Is there a Skyhooks "Side 1, Track 1 documentary??? I'm going straight to the search field to see!!
There's a boxed set of Skyhooks (but good luck finding it) that has a recording of Shirl's predecessor singing lead on 'All my friend are gettting married'....I don't know whether the tv performance story is true (it might better apply to this guy: ruclips.net/video/biaGJ_4rEzE/видео.html ), but whatever the reason....it was the right decision.

I love that this still exists. It's great to see Skyhooks at work.

Thank you for uploading this.
. . . Extremely entertaining, and highly informative
Great clip 🤠😉
So enjoyed seeing Fred set up; took me back to the days when were 17, 18 and playing in Sound Pump together with Greg. Good memories.
Bought this album as a 10-year-old. It influenced me musically and spiritually.

My biggest influence by far in Australian music. Taught me that all that is popular isn't necessarily best. 🤘

I remember watching this - it was a program for schools on the ABC

How this was never released as a single is beyond me. What an error !!!!
So glad I found this gem too... Great insight into process
And let's give credit to the great Ross Wilson, another icon of 1970s Ozmusic, for his production expertise.
one of fav tracks and so very special to see this, thankyou.
a pleasure.
Very interesting ... Unfortunately no amount of production was going to save that song. But many Truly Great songs from the Legendary Skyhooks
+Peter Green > What an awesome doku! thank you for the upload.....
Glad you enjoyed it.
Very good.
Kids these days watching, will be saying 'what was that tape machine device'?
Nice little doco by the ABC. Wonder if there's any more gems like this out there! :)
sadly not much.. on this page also the 2 parts for BEFORE THE SCREAMING STARTS filmed on the Hooks 76 tour (well Brisbane)
Great video cheers
Wow, what a great doco ❤️
.."& then Shirley sings at a higher pitch"
No sampling & tweaks on computers to simulate that, like now.
13:08 - The irony it wasn't Red on the gong!
cheers Peter..love your work mate :)
thanks, it's what we do.
How many guitarists does it take to tune a Gibson? As many as you can find
Great work Peter!
Glad you enjoyed it David.
Been there and hate the fucken recording studio. Nothing better than rehearsing and live performing. I don’t reckon I’m on my own there.
I read the lead singer 'skyhooks' watched himself on a tv performance and quit
Where did you read that?

Wish I was around back then ahah
Brilliant
Cool !!
Where the hell do you find these things? Fantastic! Thank you.
PG is a friend of the band and has worked with them a ton. That's where!
He's not Split Enz' Peter Green, is he?
our band archives , thankfully we kept quite a bit
@@petergreen2534 Fantastic. It's a treasure. Thanks Peter!
Are you the producer from skyhooks?
