Yes, you can unlock only the "Firemonkeys" license plate for all cars after you found all 12 hidden monkeys, so there's no other rewards.

During "Maelstrom" special event, I was checking on Reddit to see its material requirements guide for completing it, I saw one of the posts with "Secret Collectibles for Firemonkey Plate".
I wasn't noticed eariler when I started "Maelstrom" special event after I downloaded its update & playing on its 1st chapter as well, until on its 2nd chapter.
Thought it would be a good idea to help all players to find them easier, it's my own reason for revealing all locations of the hidden monkeys as a guide.

You need to complete all special events to unlock them with 5th stage as they can be playable in Vault Events. There are 2 types of special events, one is Live Event where new cars added on every update, and the other is Vault Event where you can start anytime & retry if you failed from old special events.
You can use "Lose To Win" method on Live Events as you can gain by failing on certain tracks with highest farmable credits & choose "Retry". However, you can't do that in Vault Events because it disabled the farmable credits, so "L2W" method in Vault Events is useless.
Also, you need the special event guides for every new special events on Reddit, they'll help you on completing them with the list of "Event Material Requirements" for unlocking all PR requirements on each chapters.

Just select a slower car, no need to hit the walls

It's not possible to do that without hitting the walls, because some hidden monkeys are really tricky to obtain that require hit the walls to slow down & you would get missed them easily if you don't, even you using the slowest car, like the AE86 Trueno.
Although, some of them can be obtain without hitting any wall with any hyper car.
