So you removed the fuse taps from the original installation ?, then cut those taps from the 3 wire harness where you had spliced them together ? I didn't see that part anywhere or did i miss something ? Did the butt connectors come with the camera, 3 wire hardwire kit or the battery ? Thanks
Great question Sean! I just watched this video and I was wondering the same? Do you remove the original hardwired fuse cables now that you are installing the Ivolt battery pack which is designed specifically to work in parking mode. Sean I don't see that this gentleman responded to your question. If you have the answer it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
In my case (2022 Honda CRV) there were no switched 20A ( Thinkware suggested) circuits that were switched. In your case I beileve you found the same. I see you put a 20A fuse in the tap with a 10A. Would this mean that if the circuit draws more than 10A while charging the battery you would blow the 10A fuse? In my case I see no other option that doing what you have done.
Good video. Perhaps I am a little slow but I was confused when you talked about your original installation of the hardwire kit prior to the addition of the ivolt battery. You showed the existing hardwire cable install connections to the fuse box but were not clear that you removed the fuse taps prior to connecting these wires to the output cable from the ivolt battery. It is clear to you, but somewhat confusing to the unskilled person doing this for the first time.
The original hardwire kit I installed (which I showed the installation in my first U1000 review video) requires both an ignition 12V and constant 12V fuse tap into the fuse box. When I installed the iVolt battery pack, the input to the battery pack only requires one ignition 12V fuse tap 5:48. On the output side of the battery pack, I connected the 3 output wires to the 3 input wires of the power cable going into the dash camera 6:45.
Hey great install video. I was wondering which fuse slot you went with on your install (ex. Accessory or Option)? Thinkware says to go with a 20a fuse slot and use an equivalent 20a fuse in the fuse tap, but on my Acura RDX, all the 20a slots are constant power, even when the car is off. Your help is greatly appreciated.
On my 2019 Odyssey, I tapped into the igntion 12V fuse labeled Option. On the battery pack, the charging switch Low is 5A, and High is 7A. So tapping into a 10A fuse slot will work fine.
If you get this battery, is it still worth using the battery protection cut off to protect the battery pack itself? And what would be the recommended voltage cut off for the BAB-50?
There is no published info stating what shutoff voltage you should set the dascam to. But I am pretty certain there is a protection circuit inside the backup battery that will cutoff the output when it drops to a certain voltage. This will prevent any damage to the battery. If you want, you can set the cutoff voltage on the dashcam as low as you want and this is fine because the backup battery is not used for starting the vehicle, so doesn't matter.
The "200 PCS Insulated Wire Butt Splice Terminals" you linked do not work well. The hardwiring kit wires are way too thin, even with a proper crimping tool...
Hi, Question and apologies in advance. I have the thinkware u1000 and the Blackvue B124x. The B124x is being charged via the cigarette port and the thinkware is also connected to the B124x via the cigarette port. Does this prevent the parking mode from being engaged and if so, do I change out just the output cable to the 3 wire from the the cigarette wire for the dashcam to the battery, or do I also have to hardwire my battery to the car and also the dashcam to the battery?
Does the rear camera independently detect motion and start recording during motion detect parking mode? Your info is much appreciated. Trying to figure out if I need 2 front cameras or just a 2Ch unit.
@@dial2fast Do you still made this unit to perform a test? Getting mixed answers and some say the rear will not detect motion and only start recording once the front unit does during motion parking mode. I'm usually head in first and the front camera is facing a wall, so it won't detect motion if someone walks by the rear to initiate the record.
Be aware that a car sitting in the sun for hours can still exceed that temperature. Better to just add a second actual car battery and hook that along with your radio equipment up to it.
Can this power pack connect to a smartphone so I can read how much charge it has etc like on Blackvue power magic pack? If not then how can I tell how much charge it has?

Hi I had a question... Do you just take the hardwire from the dash am and connect that to the battery hardwire kit? Do I just ignore what you did in the first video when you just installed the dash cam without the battery??
@@dial2fast Thank you, Sir! I was wondering the same thing. did the camera ever drain your main battery? I got a message on my 2020 Odyssey this morning that battery level is too low after running this camera for few days now, it did start as usual and voltmeter shows 14.3 when running, just curious. I'm getting the battery pack on black friday :) Any other recommendations for battery pack after you used it for so long? Something better but in the same price range maybe available from thinkware ? Also, how long is the battery pack wires, will it be enough to reach spare tire compartment? I have my amp, audiocontrol lc2i in there, so I might put battery pack there too
Since you said you are getting your battery pack on black friday, then I am guessing your battery low issue is from the dashcam being hardwired to the fuse box for parking mode. If this is the setup you currently have, then yes it does drain the car battery every time you park. You need to set the voltage cutoff on the dashcam to protect the car battery. Once you install the battery pack, the dashcam will NEVER drain the car battery when parked. It will be running off the battery pack. As for installing it in the spare tire area, it should reach since the spare is located in the second row. But keep in mind the battery pack need ignition 12v, and not constant 12v source.
What if you don’t want any recording to happen when you are parked in a secure garage versus parking in non secure public parking space. Is there a way to preference these recordings?
There is no scheduler for when parking mode recording happens. If you don't want parking mode recording (with this system setup), then switch the battery to the off position.
I believe you are asking about the 10A fuse (and not 10 volt). The fuse rating is in amperage which is the current draw. If you hardwire the charge cable to the fuse box, the maximum current draw to charge the Thinknware battery is 7 amps. This is why I tapped a 10 amp fuse because you want to use a fuse that is rated higher than the 7 amps. This also means a 20 amp fuse will also work. Having said that, you don't want to tap a 5 amp fuse to charge the battery because that circuit will not supply enough current.
@@dial2fast Hi, just to clarify iVOLT BAB-50 Battery Pack comes with set of 20 amp fuses, please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that the fuse that you pull out of the fuse panel/box must be same or grater amps as accessory (external battery in this case). The reason I'm asking this because I'm not sure should I tap this battery to 15 amp fuse (in my car that would be a cigarette lighter circuit) 20 amp fuse (in my car that would be a heated seats)?
@@ZNavy The fuse rating you are looking for in the car should always be higher than the device current draw rating. In this case the device being the BAB-50 draws 7amp max. So you can tap a 15A circuit or a 20A circuit. Even though the BAB-50 comes with a 20A fuse, that just happens to be the fuse they include. They could have included a 10A or 15A fuse and that will still work. The original fuse from your fuse box will go into the bottom slot of the fuse tap and therefore retain the original circuit in the vehicle. Since the BAB-50 comes with a 20A fuse, you will place that fuse in the top slot, and this 20A fuse will be the one to provide current to the BAB-50. Technically, you can put a 10A or a 15A fuse in the top slot of the fuse tap and that will still work fine. But you cannot put a 5A fuse in the top slot because the 7A will exceed the 5A and blow the fuse. In your example, you are perfectly fine to tap the 15A cigarette lighter fuse.
