Immigrated to the U.S at the age of 11 with my older sibling age 14 in 1989, with just a backpack of belonging; fast forward 35 years later; retired from the U.S Army as an officer after 25 years of service; my sister now owns several businesses and is a millionaire; we did just fine because of hard work and perseverance in life. Yes racism exists; but for the majority of Americans, people just want to be able to provide for their loved ones; that has nothing to do with racism. All the best everyone!

3 everybody should stop thinking racism and slavery. Slavery happened because it was the status quo that time. Racism is also gone. You can name black billionaires and millionaires now. Where in the world you can find a “slave or black “ became president or leader of that country.
4 I came here with nothing also and I am not a millionaire now but live enough with my retirement and I am saving enough (in case needed) too because of my way of living(lifestyle - no drugs, drink, women,etc. just electronics hobby)
5. I never seen racism even before I came to this country (after waiting SEVERAL years for my petition to be approve to come here). My experience here 30+ years after is that I never had racism experience with white- maybe I am Asian and seldom in contact with them.
A bit of experience with black: a. They seem to show me that they are superior to them. b. Whenever (walking) I cross path with them I will need to clear the way for them pass. But I never thought about racism. I thought that it’s the culture.
For Asians I don’t know because even Asians have different culture and religions.

I just did a search for a billboard I saw a few years back in L.A , that stated "Children do not know what Race is", this is totally true, it depicted multi racial, white, black, brown , Yellow (not PC but I am married to a lovely Japanese wife) so I get a pass.... I cannot find it... Google it, it has all these links to "You must teach your kids early about race" Why? They do not know? I was bussed in the South, circa 1971, to a black neighborhood because of a Judge that thought, "Oh" yes, let's get kids that need their sleep, get up at 5am to catch a bus across town to an impoverished school , with kids that have been told to Hate you because of your color, I had none of this, it was passed down by "Their side". Total Liberal , Socialistic not thought out policy. How about , all the $$ spent on gas and administration on this stupid, failed idea. Why not just go make "Charter schools" , which ultimately came about in Nashville, TN. and other Southern States. Also, we still get push back about School Vouchers? Why, The affluent do not need them, others do.... Just do a simple P/L sheet , Oh your spending $ 8,000.00 per kid for failing public "Woke" school. NO! Give me that $ Cash, I will send my child to a good school where they can achieve their goals...

Race plays much more of a role in life's success than people know. Morgan Freeman has made it. We see that, but to ignore what is going on in the world and not want to understand the system that targets black people is an atrocity. When I did sports, I believed that race didn't matter. Sports and entertainment are different. After working in the real world long enough, I began to hurt because of what I never understood about my friends and family member's racial set backs. Now I understand more than ever.

Exactly your life is what you make of it and you can come up with all kinds of excuses as to why you’re not where you want to be but at the end of the day it’s because you didn’t want to put in the effort we live in a society that says the world owes me the world owes you nothing nothing And we’re soft and we’re comfortable and we think everything should just come to us. We live in a society where our parents tell us were just super amazing and just the greatest thing on earth we get out into the real world and we realize none of that is true we’re no one special, we have to earn our dreams. We have to fight for them work for them deal with the setbacks and persevere. It’s like that for everyone and it doesn’t matter where you come from rich or poor. That’s the beauty of America and Canada. You can build something of your life if you want to work for it

I am one of the hundred of thousands Vietnamese boat people ( refugee) that escaped our country and came to the US with nothing , not even $1.00 US dollar in my pocket, but the majority of us (90% or higher) succeed. We all started with the minimum wage ($3.50/hr back in 1980) and we studied part time, after 4 years we bought a small house for $100k in San Jose California.
If someone told you that America is racist, discrimination and inequality, use my case as an example because If that is true, it is impossible for an Asian person without a College degree and good English communication can accomplish and achieve the below:
1. Start with $3.50/hr assembly job and work my way up to $85/hr Engineering job before retirement in 2018.
2. Work for 38 years straight and never been unemployed.
Of course not everybody will have the same outcome but regardless of what you end up with, as long as you work and work hard, you will succeed in this country.
