How to Build you B58 (A90 Supra or 40i BMW)

- The B58 is a 3.0 liter single turbo straight 6 from bmw, Now this engine had a lot to live up to, The N54 which was BMW’s twin turbo straight 6 is a legend in the tuning world, but it still had its problems, the engine wasn’t the most reliable thing on the planet, then bmw made the N55, it was less tunable but the focussed more on reliability. Now the B58 is there newest Straight 6 and now they have no excuses they know how to build a reliable strong straight 6. So did they?
Well lets talk stock motor specs.
The B58 produces 330HP and 500nm of torque not bad in its stock form hay, how is the power made? Well this 3 liter has 1 twin scroll turbo. Which force feeds the engine with all the oxygen it needs. Now remember when I talked about the N54 and I said it was so loved in the tuning community? Well the reason people love the engine is because its crazy strong, with people making 800hp on a stock engine, and I think the record is over 1000hp on a stock internal motor. How? Well the N54 has a Forged Crank and rods, with really strong cast pistons. So here is the Good news the B58 is much of the same story, It also has a Forged crank and connecting rods. Now the N54 block is made out of iron which is really strong but heavy, So bmw made a compromise. The B58 has a weaker aluminium block in order to save weight, but they made it a close deck aluminium block in order to keep the block as strong as possible.

On a B58 just get a good panel filter and keep the stock air box. It's so well ducted from the front you won't be gaining much with a CIA unless it has a full air box that is ducted also.

Only if you are stock turbo. If your upgraded turbo. You need aftermarket intake that’s less restrictive
they look better
Most after market systems lose HP on the B58. Panel and stock box (stock turbo) usually produces best results. I wish it weren’t his way (I want more induction noise from my 340i, but prefer performance to show) but it is.
You will be losing power if not well ducted and you will be gaining next to nothing even if it’s ducted the only application for intake mod is sound and super big power build anything under 600whp the stock air box with panal filter do just fine.
You don’t need to upgrade injectors. Full pump doesn’t max them out
You only need the TU pump and a downpipe for 500HP. Everything else is optional but nice to have

@@DrunkenVteccorrect. TU pump + Down Pipe are the only two mods needed to hit 500 crank. I’ve seen about 430 wheel on 93 pump and ethanol blends push very close to 500 with just those two mods and a proper tune to account for them. Most intakes actually lose power over stock box + panel.
It’s true I have a 16 b58 I have a highflow Carter downpipe, TU HPFP with stage 2+ I also have the bm3 flex fuel kit to run any type of ethanol. I got 510 hp stock turbo on E40 and I also have a mst intake lol sounds cool
What about the transmission ?

I just bought a 540i i love it I have unlimited warranty for 4 years I kinda wanna make it more faster but I don’t wanna lose my warranty 😭. What you guys think I should do??!!
Find an advisor at bmw that’s cool and wouldn’t mind you modding your car, not much can go wrong with simple bolt ons and a tune
Meanwhile my dumb ass has an E46 and is waiting for some stupid fucker to flip a 540i so I can put the engine in mine.
You don’t need a charge pipe on the b58
You definitly need a charge pipe if you go meth injection. The oem charge pipe dosent have a bungle for meth injection.
@@ai3270 The Charge pipe was the choke point of the N54, They got it right with the B58... You really dont need to upgrade it until big boy numbers or else u are just wasting money, same with a CAI its really just not needed..

You need an upgrade full pump for 500hp if you have an older b58

From what I've seen 600-650 is snap range for axles. Hopefully upgrade kits for the g42 chassis hit soon
