This video really did blow the socks of everyone when it came out, and upped the bar massively, totally rendering a generation of older skaters obsolete and behind the times. It was blatantly clear that there was a changing of the guard that took place once this and Shackle Me Not hit. The mix of ballsy, aggressive and technicality was jaw dropping. Nobody had ever seen anything like it before, and it was all done on these ultra heavy and clunky boards we had back then so it took major muscle to pull tricks off. Truly inspiring times. Thanks for posting this!
I went to the premier of this film in leicester.... It was totally RAD!! i saw matt hensley and ron allen there too, They were the days, never forgotten. this film just bought it all back!!
Im 33 yrs old and skated for around 13 yrs and this was def my favorite video to get amped up to go downtown and tear it up!! Yeah Matt! Thanks for posting the most influential skate video of all time!
wow the memories are flooding back, best times of my life, wish l could trully go back and do it all again, sk8 all day and all night, 360 flips, backside tail slides, backside flips down stairs, and ruling the mini ramps
I was nearly impossible for me to make it past the halfway point of this video back in the day without wanting to go out and skate. Glad to be able to watch it again. Video is long gone
I miss my H-street boards. Hell I miss my younger years period. It makes me wish I was born 10 years earlier I was good in my prime and now I'm 30 and I stay in mini pipes lol no more stairs and no more risky shyt. I love skating and will never stop.. SKATE OR DIE!
Skated all these spots with all these dudes back then. Ray & Jeff in San Rafael, big ups to Georgetown. Me an Noah used to go to Benicia all the time. He used to call those "drop tail" Indys. Cant forget the sessions with Ron at Oakland Tech too... Makes me want to dig up some old footage from '89 myself-- great post-- thanks!
"you have a job or anything?" "no Ma'am, just a vagrant!" God, that caught me in some vicious memory feedback! Thanks for posting this. It was a great, great video. It cost £30 when it got here to the UK - even now that's pricey for a vid - and a few of us banded together to buy it. Must hav seen it 200 times. Thanks!
Every time I watch this it gets better and better. Double flip Indy followed by a nollie 540 bigspin? On a vert ramp? In 89? My first board was an H-Street Matt Hensley in 1991, right around the first time I saw this vid. Back when skating was cool. Well, not cool, but cool to us.
Easily the best skate video on earth!!! I've been waiting for someone to upload this for years! Must have been spelling it wrong, because it was posted in 2009. DAMN!!! This video is legendary!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm with meistermarwin, I want the music!!!
I really miss the old days. Skating all day long. Only stopping to eat & then skating all evening. Converse Chuck Taylors, the giant fish head boards, shmitt stix & Santa Cruz speed wheels in punk as f*ck pink!
I have seen this movie countless times, more than 200 quietly. des small i've noticed in these rulers of the skate and although I have not gone from amateur level has been one of the best times of my life, as it has done less
what about the asian kid singin "i can get no satiofaction" and the song from the slam section. i gave my copy of hocus pocus to my nephew along with a skateboard. thank you, whoever you are that posted this on you tube. omfg. ollie north, ollie one foot, in the hick town i was in at the time we called it an ollie douche bag, jealousy maybe.
Praise Jesus to you Yuppiekiller for uploading this, I heard about this vid around 10 years ago and I am just now seeing it. Man I wish I wasn't fat so I could skate again.
Man these were the days, couldn’t wait to pop this vhs tape into the vcr and learn some new tricks! Jesus now my son is asking about skateboarding.....dam time flew by for me
Thing I love about these 80s and early 90s videos is how you can clearly see how skateboarding was progressing. Just a year prior to this video was Shackle Me Not and look how much the style and tricks progressed in just a years time. These days nearly everything that's done in videos has been done a million times already but back then everything was about being new and progression. Guess there's only so much you can do on a skateboard.
1:18 Chuck Norris logged in - i think i will have to count finally how many one-foot, nose-bone, roundhouse and late-flips there actually are in this piece of magic. Frigging third century laytur and still kicking the curb - this vid changed the woeirld - once and for all!!! P.s.: Luv ye channel-name!
Incredible video incredible company incredible skaters incredible music just freaking awesome and years ahead of anything else around at the time . Superb awesome Matt hensley is king
Hang On To The DReam was used in D-Ways and Magnusson's section in Shackle during the vert awards thing, and To Be A Hero was Magnusson's section right before the slam section in Hokus
This, World Ind. "Rubbish Heap", Blind "Video Days", Plan B "Questionable", damn the list goes on. All twenty or more years ago? Memories of going out and trying this stuff. LOL
Hey Guys! Just kidding. I used to skate very well in the late 80s and early 90s and I wish, I could turn the time back. It makes me depressive watching the videos of the good old time. Now I`m 38 and have to work all the time. Bought my last board three years ago. But today i´m not fit enough for hardcore moves . just doing "no complies", "olllie"s and easy stuff. Peace and skate on!
I have no idea what it's called, maybe frontside ollie body varial or something? As far as I can see he does a frontside ollie which he lands on the front wheels only and then he does a counter clockwise body varial straight away. The board ends up turning 270 degrees while the rider comes down the same way he went up. There are loads of those body varials in this film and thank god for that, cause I love 'em :)
I was hoping for more Ray Simmons and, but while this Ternasky proj lacks the post-punk ambience of Shackle, it had more film; which influenced my own videography from the get go. Plus, this one had Hensley kickflip/shovit-ing to melon over garbage cans in 1989. I don't think I saw anything remotely competitive until Video Days (Spike Jonze) , and after that, Questionable (The third Ternasky outing and basically the true third H-Street video).
Where do you live? Nowadays skateboarding is propably bigger than ever, pretty much a mainstream sport. Where I'm from, I don't have a day that I don't see some dude with a board. Or did you mean your friends you used to skate with, that you don't see them skating anymore? But yeah, this video right here is a true classic, as is "Shackle Me Not" (personally I think Shackle was even more influential, a real game changer and this being the 2nd most influential and Blind's "Video Days" as the 3rd)
Hes promoting new skaters and getting them hooked up.......yes he still skates.......man this vid is what made all skateing turn to what it is today,,,,,,the runs the night skateing ..thease songs on the whole video time less
Does anyone know if Sal Barbier still skates?Man I had his board second hand back in that time and I swear it felt like it was a part of my body, pefect balance.Id like to have one of just to have one.Impossible I'm sure, along with that one that had the bottle of Olde English for grahpics
i feel u. i bot a house like 6 years ago and lets just say i should of checked out the area frist insted of the price of my house and how cheep it is live here.let just say its not sk8ter friendly.
@NosajElttil76 I'll add 'This Is Not The New H-Street Video to that list but yep all those are classic skate videos from the golden era. Those old Powell videos really suck in comparison.
This video really did blow the socks of everyone when it came out, and upped the bar massively, totally rendering a generation of older skaters obsolete and behind the times. Great !! i had this movie on vhs at the time (i think i still have it). It was the only skate video i had. Thanks.
0:51 is pretty decent even by todays standards! 8 stair 360 flip on that oldschool board is nutty.
I remember being invited by Mike Ternasky to this premiere. Sat right up front with him. Also remember playing foos at his home with Tony Mag.
This, World Ind. "Rubbish Heap", Blind "Video Days", Plan B "Questionable", damn the list goes on. All twenty or more years ago? Memories of going out and trying this stuff. LOL

Hey what was that video where it starts out with matt hensley skatin and rippin it up to AC/DC's Back in Black? Gotta find it.
Was this the last video featuring skateboards shaped like a fish? If not it was close to it. Great memories!
1:41 :D They filmed a part for The search for animal chin at the same place.
Hes promoting new skaters and getting them hooked up.......yes he still skates.......man this vid is what made all skateing turn to what it is today,,,,,,the runs the night skateing ..thease songs on the whole video time less

We used to skate everywhere, all day everyday...now i never see anybody on a board
Rip 🙏 Kit Erickson
This is not the new H-street video! Found it!
awsome
The irony of that immigrant talking to those kids about property rights!
i feel u. i bot a house like 6 years ago and lets just say i should of checked out the area frist insted of the price of my house and how cheep it is live here.let just say its not sk8ter friendly.
Serious question: Is there ANY "bad" trick (for that time) in this vid? Either not or my BS-detector is malfunctioning.
Still rad.
@NosajElttil76 I'll add 'This Is Not The New H-Street Video to that list but yep all those are classic skate videos from the golden era. Those old Powell videos really suck in comparison.
@meistermarwin google h street special edition soundtrack bloodspot, you'll find a bloodspot that'll have a media fire link to it
Whatever happened to Ray Simmons and Jeff Petit?
i prefer to watch this with the vuvuzelas present
Santa Cruz - Risk It! (1990)
Santa Cruz - A Reason For Living (1990)
P.P. - Propaganda (1990)
