It’s December 2023 as I comment. The UB-Xa is currently tempting me as much as the Take 5 by Sequential (Circuits). For this price they better have spent some serious time on their best keybed ever. None of their synths so far have had respectable keybeds. It sounds amazing for sure, but before dropping that much on a synth I want to know that’s up to par with others in that price range; Moog, Sequential etc as far as the keybed goes.
Yeah - Honestly though, I don't know why everyone uses the TP9S instead of the TP8S, which feels like the best keybed to me personally. TP9S is good, of course. I don't know what Behringer uses in theirs, but it feels more akin to my Prophet 12 and Prophet 08 keybeds.
The problem is that you are expecting the quality of a keyboard that Moog, Sequential, Oberheim, Waldorf… sell for at least 3 times the price (or way more if you think about the One) on a 1300€ synth. Even if it is not “cheap”, in a relative way it is for a big poly synth.
@@vincewizz8534 I understand this… there are still Moogs and Sequentials under $1000 and the build quality is still fantastic regardless. Great demo and sound thanks a lot. One question that I didn't find yet in the comments. Looking at pictures of the UB-Xa online : on the rear panel, in addition to the air flow openings left and right in the upper portion of the panel, there is a round grid next to the power socket. After the success of the Pro 800 and Deepmind, skeptics still not willing to give this thing chance or Behringer a break. What’s the opposite of “Fanboi”? 🤔
I compared the later revision D which is improved with the OB-X8 side by side. In OB-Xa mode I could hear almost no differences. Both, UB-Xa and OB-X8 are very close to the original. As you might know I made a vid ob-xa vs OB-X8.
Probably means a miracle happend in this latest revision D. Im hoping! Audio here is nowhere close to OB-X8 or OB-Xa videos (like many people notice). Not sure why you would post it
How does it compare with the original OB-Xa or OB-X8 (build quality, sound, key bed, etc)? I had an OB-X8 for a while and liked the sounds, but it was a bit too big and limited for the cost for me in my tiny studio space. I'm hopeful Behringer will release modules of their upcoming poly synths. I'm interested in a module version of this or the potential "UB-X". Thank you for any insights you can share.
To be honest... It sounds very thin. Even the unison sounds don't sound powerful (there are 32 Oscillators!) I believe this video was shot before the vintage modes were implemented. So I have a little hope for more warmth in the final synth.
Think this B might be great for pads and complex textures etc but for me, it feels like there is no real sharp transient?! If I listen to the original OBxa I always think even one voice & one osc could be easily used for bass sounds where you would usually take a solid mono synth. With that quality, pads can shine just super premium deluxe, like many monosynths connected to a huge poly, what they acually did back then.. what I hear from this behringer is actually far away from that quality. Especially when people use the arp in these videos, it sound pretty toyish to my ears, idk if its just me.. the original or many other old synths are just clicky like machineguns. You own both, you feel the same? Actually its something I notice with almost all newer synths that are not that pricey, lack of transients and "organic sound" only by complexity. Somehow noone is really speaking about that.
Why not compare the two seeing as you have an original OB-Xa sitting right there? Wouldn’t have taken much to do. Does it not compare well and you didn’t want to open the UB-Xa to criticism before it finally goes on sale?
Relax and enjoy 17 min. of nice sounds. Not everything needs to be a competition. And you could even try reading the description. Nobody needs a big shootout with a years-old revision of the Behringer.
I've been watching and following the whole Behringer UB-Xa story from the beginning. Because I've owned the OBX and OB8 back in the 80's. So I bought the UB-Xa. But honestly? I bought the Novation Summit years ago when it came on the market. The UB-Xa sounds good, but doesn't come near the Summit. Not in depth, fatness, wideness, FX, Matrix Modulation and much more. The Novation Summit costed 800$ more than the current UB-Xa price, and that is the difference in quality you can hear... Sorry. Many people are blinded by the Oberheim-ness of this clone. It's a good synth, no doubt, but it is certainly is not a flagship... and not an Oberheim at all!! Sorry, but that is reality, despite look-a like and sound-a-like video's. People want to believe what they see...
Yes. I see the Oberheim on the bottom clearly marked OB xa but if you look at the Behringer board in the top left corner it reads OB xa and not UB xa. I froze the video at a couple of points to try and be sure I wasn't seeing it wrong but the Berhinger does not read UB xa in the top left area. Was just wondering why and who made it that way. Behringer to try and disguise a prototype? synth legends maybe put a sticker on it? just curious @@KBizzy
This is obviously an early revision of the casing when Behringer was still trying to get the rights for the Oberheim name and logo (before August of 2021).
Impressive features and price but no matter how many demos I hear I do not become friend with its sound. Too harsh and bright and far from what I expect to be fat and warm. When I hear any demo of the Arturia Polybrute I immediately love it. Seems to be a matter of taste in the end.
Sorry, but he UB-Xa doesn´t sound near a OB-Xa , just listen to Matt Johnson´s Video. There i can immediatly recognise the typical Oberheim Sounds that i known from so many 80´s records. I have the Pro 800 ,that improved a lot after two firmware updates and now it sounds very much like a Prophet 600, that i used to own in the 90´s.
I would say it sounds very precise, all the imperfect nuances of each vintage model unfortunately can't be replicated easily by cloning a few chips here and there . It is what it is . I like it still.

And from different videos I still couldn't understand wether ADSR envelopes on UB-XA are Ok to live with or maybe somehow slower/softer then for example on original oberheim or on OB6...
After the success of the Pro 800 and Deepmind, skeptics still not willing to give this thing chance or Behringer a break. What’s the opposite of “Fanboi”? 🤔
The opposite is a hater
I compared the later revision D which is improved with the OB-X8 side by side. In OB-Xa mode I could hear almost no differences. Both, UB-Xa and OB-X8 are very close to the original. As you might know I made a vid ob-xa vs OB-X8.
Probably means a miracle happend in this latest revision D. Im hoping! Audio here is nowhere close to OB-X8 or OB-Xa videos (like many people notice). Not sure why you would post it
Is there a 'panel mode' button to make the sound reflect front panel controls position instantly?
How does it compare with the original OB-Xa or OB-X8 (build quality, sound, key bed, etc)? I had an OB-X8 for a while and liked the sounds, but it was a bit too big and limited for the cost for me in my tiny studio space. I'm hopeful Behringer will release modules of their upcoming poly synths. I'm interested in a module version of this or the potential "UB-X". Thank you for any insights you can share.
To be honest... It sounds very thin. Even the unison sounds don't sound powerful (there are 32 Oscillators!)
I believe this video was shot before the vintage modes were implemented.
So I have a little hope for more warmth in the final synth.
DM is the same, you need it unison 2 to sound remotely like a Juno.
Sounds like OB-Xa to me
Think this B might be great for pads and complex textures etc but for me, it feels like there is no real sharp transient?!
Somehow noone is really speaking about that.
whats the preset name 4:25
Why not compare the two seeing as you have an original OB-Xa sitting right there? Wouldn’t have taken much to do. Does it not compare well and you didn’t want to open the UB-Xa to criticism before it finally goes on sale?
Relax and enjoy 17 min. of nice sounds. Not everything needs to be a competition. And you could even try reading the description. Nobody needs a big shootout with a years-old revision of the Behringer.
This is from 2021, Sir.
2 or 3 versions ago
So just... imagine the tweaking they did FROM HERE
Yeah just use your immagination! LOL@@keysthomas1966
Will these be stock patches?
Maybe yes
@vintagesynths if they are it would definately be worth it. They're great
@@nelnich4445 thanks, they were in the bank b and c. Hopefully Behringer let them and didn’t oberwritet
For the money, it’s ok. Not the best sounding synth in the world, but the poly after touch can make it a good midi-keyboard
It sounds like an Oberheim I would say, as good as. The best sounding or not the best sounding is a subjective topic.
They really get very close. Most sounds hardly indistinguishable. The OB-Xa is just legend, but technically poor
It would still be good for twice as much.....
Drums are too loud man, lovely sounds though!
Noticing an OBXa there too, for you to give it the approval is saying a lot. These are going to sell like crazy!
What would shut critics is a comparison between this and the real thing. This would prove them right or totally wrong.
you have a real obxa there, did you buy the ubx to stack voices with the original?
I already have this in my studio.
Both synths are very different. The summit is, of course an insane synthesiser.
why does the UB xa say OB xa ?
He has an actual Oberheim on the bottom there. He’s playing the Behringer
@@1899Dan time marker? On my phone it seems always cropped below the name.
12:34 it can be seen@@unclemick-synths
This is obviously an early revision of the casing when Behringer was still trying to get the rights for the Oberheim name and logo (before August of 2021).
sounds tinny
🏴☠️
Impressive features and price but no matter how many demos I hear I do not become friend with its sound. Too harsh and bright and far from what I expect to be fat and warm. When I hear any demo of the Arturia Polybrute I immediately love it. Seems to be a matter of taste in the end.
Frankly, it sounds no different from an Old Alpha Juno too me.
Solid, but imo lacks the gritty sound of the original. That ole fuzz...
Well that was underwhelming to say the least…..
Sounds thin..
Yep.
I would say it sounds very precise, all the imperfect nuances of each vintage model unfortunately can't be replicated easily by cloning a few chips here and there .
It is what it is . I like it still.
@@AdamTheAd-vanc3d 100% it sounds very controlled. Still good..... but a bit too perfect.
@@DanglyLingham BDS spotted
I wanna get one but I know I'll be lowkey pissed that I have a Behringer among my other original 80s synths.. it's cool but it's not authentic
sniff more cork. you'll feel better.
I didn't hear anything even vaguely like Geddy, Eddie, or Prince--does not pass "GO."
Harsh, thin and out of tune....
You should get your ears checked.
The part starting at 5:17 really sounds a bit out of tune...but that's quite possibly on purpose (pitch modulation?).
@@sauermusicDE It has different modes, one such like that....could be that, or not....no way to know sadly.
@@sauermusicDE yep, sounds deliberate to me.
No comparison….😑 both in the video and existentially.
