I love how smart the H1 Marines were for their day. They're actually using strategy appropriate for their foe, in this case the Hunter: They circle around it and try to hit it in the back.
I just remember shooting at my TV "Triggers down, men! Triggers down!" I swear, somebody needs to explain to those marines that there's no point saving ammo if you die. I routinely dumped entire magazines into Elites just to drop their shields. Meanwhile, the Marines were firing short controlled bursts and wondering why they couldn't kill anything.
@@cymond Well it's actually more efficient to shoot short firing the assault rifle, because holding the fire reduce accuracy, and not only in halo 1 but in every halo (or even, every fps games). Try it yourself, you'll do damage faster
I just realized: Regular Marines never had pistols in Halo CE whenever there was a Hunter around, and in fact I think only ship crew and officers had them. Maybe that's why there's a T-pose glitch, because Bungie knew pistol was one-shot on Halo CE Hunters, so they never bothered checking if there was a glitch for regular Marines holding one, because they were never meant to.

You have to wait around in that room for quite a while before it happens. I remember just fucking off in that room as a stupid 7 year old, only to be scared shitless at this random flood attacking me in a room they arent supposed to be in yet. Took me a while to figure out thats how it got there.

I used to spend hours as a kid messing with the marines in Halo CE. They say the most unique shit, even when you betray them and force them to kill you. And playing on legendary I used to try my best to keep as many alive as possible since they could actually fight pretty well and they felt like actual humans
I feel like in each and every time two hunters appeared, it was less of them losing to two hunters and moreover they had some unlucky or stupid mistakes such as blowing themselves up, running in their own line of fire, or not firing until the enemy was already close to them.

No it’s not. It’s AI from a game put against different AI assets from a completely different game and game engine (one from the far future.) The marines have bad spotting range, but that’s programming, not individual intelligence. In terms of maneuvering, CE AI is still batter than any first person shooter since, and it’s 20 years old. The only reason they Tpose is because of programming. They don’t have animations for taking damage from those hunters, as those hunters are not an existing enemy
Halo 1 sniper marine in the seat of your warthog makes you basically unkillable. The marine becomes what the lore describes as a spartan, one hand holding a 50.cal and domeing elites while going off jumps in the warthog. Absolutely wild stuff.
That first hunter to go against the shotguns was as confused and concerned anyone would be. Just like when a shotgun flood jumps at you before you realize.

I think that at the first level when you fight the Flood, there's a Mad marine that's uses a Pistol to shot the Chief because he loses his mind.
