    That's a pretty good set-up there Clay, the roots will go everywhere in the pipe.
    At the top open end, I suggest you put an old sock or something there, as the soil & potting mix will spill over the ends.
    I came across this video for a guide for Watercress growing.
    See; ruclips.net/video/7Licq5uvKGY/видео.html
    With the creek/spring, I suggest that you put over some chicken mesh until the baby plants get established.

    Jeez your a brilliant barstard alright Clay. If there's one thing I've learn about watercress, it's that watercress grows better in just water. A lot of the watercress that grows in the swampy areas or in dirt are a lot harder around the stem and more prone to rotting. Not an expert but I've definitely done my fair share of watercress picking. You also strike me as someone who would benefit from a aquaponics garden set up, have a look into it. Cheers for the great content!

  • @RobertJones-ey9qz
    @RobertJones-ey9qz 3 года назад +2

    Question for you about this planter idea. If watercress likes water real well, wouldn't it maybe be better to have the ends blocked so the water stays in the trough? I've never tried raising it, so I don't know, that's why I'm asking. The way you have yours set up, it seems that the water would always be draining. Like I said, I don't know, that's why I'm asking.
    Interesting idea though for recycling things.
    Another good video, keep them coming. I'll be watching. Have a good day.

    • @ClayTallStories
      @ClayTallStories  3 года назад +2

      a valid question. It would work blocking the ends but water cress likes slow moving water like ditches and creeks. This enables the nutrients to spread through all the root system.

    The stream near me gets choked with watercress every year, if there's been enough rain. The stream bed is gravel so I think the water is providing the nutrients washed out of the farmers fields. What's the water you're supplying like?
    EDIT
    River Mimram near me - lh5.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipMI77d8l2turw_se0VH8kEbfeMc7EDxC6-H0YRy=h1440
    (Really it's just a stream or a brooke)

    Nutritionally speaking, there is no such thing as a superfood. The term was coined for marketing purposes to influence food trends and sell products. The food industry bestows the superfood label on nutrient-rich foods with a supposed capacity to positively affect health.
    "Superfoods" are healthy foods that have a maximum amount of nutritional value for minimal calories.

    Not a good idea, water cress should be grown in spring water at source. You run a strong risk of liver fluke doing this.

    • @ClayTallStories
      @ClayTallStories  3 года назад

      from what I understand liver flukes live under the water? Thanks Wendy

    • @wendyrowland7787
      @wendyrowland7787 3 года назад

      @@ClayTallStories google the life cycle of liver fluke. It is the cistoceria that are carried by a little mud snail that is the intermediary host of the fluke which pass out onto wet pasture or water ways which is then ingested by mammals,who then host the adult fluke. You may not have the mud snails in NZ for all I know but it is worth finding out. Ask a sheep farmer.
