    I'm so happy to see a Booktuber who doesn't conform to the typical booktubing stereotypes aka constantly opening subscription boxes, do tons of YA sponsored videos or ten thousand arc openings which they'll never read.
    I love your strong and vocal opinions on controversial topics and that you're not afraid to express them. I guess it's because you're clearly more yourself and relaxed here than on your beauty channel (I might be wrong to judge you, because I don't know you, but, this is how you come across in my opinion).
    I really like your book taste and I can't find more youtubers like you, unfortunately. No wonder your channel is doing great.
    I wanted to comment on the forced diversity topic. I totally agree that a lot of books are being published just for marketing and $$$ reasons. I also HATE how some youtubers are so Pro-diversity that they can't read a book with a male protagonist without saying "oh, I would have given this book a 5/5, but can't, because the main character (or group of characters) was a male. It lacked a strong female character". Oh my god!! not every freaking book needs diversity and "STRONG" female characters....I've heard a lot of those comments about Lies of Locke Lamora for example.

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 лет назад +15

      That's kinda why I want to do book discussion videos. There are some things I now see differently than I did before I did videos but there are things I would like to explain why I'm also against.
      I'm not a big fan of subscription boxes.
      I've tried them and decided they weren't for me. I'm not against sponsored videos (but might see it differently than others as to why!) but it's too complex of a topic to say why here so I need to do a video on them!
      The beauty channel has been harder because I started so long ago and my English wasn't great lol I do think my most recent videos are more "me" but it can be surprisingly difficult to add your personality to a video about makeup!

    • @sashugh
      @sashugh 6 лет назад +6

      BookswithEmilyFox bring the discussions on!! We will go over every controversial topic 😁
      I don't think people in general (including me) are against sponsored videos, but only when they're done genuinely about the book/topic that one is interested in. I'm tired of seeing the same book popping up on every other channel: "it's not even that good, why are you talking about it?!" - me talking to my laptop while watching them.

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 лет назад +9

      I totally feel you! Probably why I'll need to do a video on that!
      I'm hesitating a bit because I don't want it to come off as "I'm not like other you tubers" or like I'm attacking anyone else... aka just drama lol

    • @sashugh
      @sashugh 6 лет назад +5

      BookswithEmilyFox if You don't do it, no one is going to do it on booktube! And also, drama on book tube? Please, we're just a bunch of nerds here dreaming about having magic wands lol
      You've already started dipping into controversial stuff, it's not the time to back off.
      Plus, you can always block the haters any time :D

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 лет назад +7

      There's apparently lots of drama on Twitter but I've been avoiding it all tbh!
      I don't really mind drama from one random comment/viewers but I don't want this to become a "let's point the fingers to certain booktubers" or getting hate from viewers or other booktubers that feels like I'm attacking people they love you know?
      I'm still planning on talking about it all but I'll have to watch how I say things a bit!

    I personally really like that your opinions are not of the typical booktuber one. It's a breath of fresh air. English is also not my first language. I've been subscribed to your beauty channel for years and when I found out you had a booktube channel I was so ecstatic. You've always been someone who comes off as someone with strong opinions and honest. I love your idgaf but at the same time open-minded and sensitive way of dealing with things. Although I do agree with a lot of what you say, there are still things I don't agree with and that's 100% okay because we're two different people. And I don't feel defensive or uncomfortable saying that because I know you feel the same.

    You're by far my favorite booktuber to watch. I love how honest you always are, that not every second video begins with "thanks to xy for sponsoring this video", and that you state your opinions so clearly - not only about how you liked the book in general, but also stuff like sexism. And I also like your sense of humor, I don't think I was ever bored watching one of your videos!

      BookswithEmilyFox literally the only “mistake” I’ve ever noticed with your English is an occasional pronouncing of the “th” sound. Like the word “with” you will say “wit”. But it is such a small thing that is barely noticeable. Your English is much better than even many people who speak English as their first language lol. Also.....I need to go make some peanut butter toast now.

    Oh hell no I would NEVER give up my books for makeup and I found your beauty Chanel first and was excited to know your a reader. If someone treats me like shit for not wearing make up they can eat shit. I’m confident in myself to care more about me than what others think. I find more joy and meaning losing myself in a good book and finding people to talk to about a good book than something as artificial as makeup. Makeup comes off at night but a good story stays in my mind forever.

I've heard so many people say that Booktube is such a nice community as if no one is ever mean to each other. I really love how you always speak your mind about everything and that's why this video passed by so quickly! I just recently finished the Reckoners trilogy and honestly it's not worth it if you didn't like the first book. In my opinion Steelheart was the best out of 3 and the other two were so underwhelming. Also I should mention I read Mistborn trilogy and Way of Kings and they are some of my absolute favourite fantasy books so yeah, that was the first time Sanderson disappointed me.

    I was so excited when you talked about Peggy Sue and Le Petit Dinosaure I love them so much! Peggy Sue is the first series I've ever read, even though I also stopped when the plot gets messy and the romance gets awkward... I'd love to hear you speak French out of curiosity but I totally respect your will not to do so.
    I feel like you're very genuine and even though you can voice your opinions you remain down to earth, you're very casual about it and that makes you even more relatable. You're a bit more mature than the typical YA reader one can easily find on booktube (which is totally fine). I feel maybe that's why you stand out (in a good way).

    One of the things I love most about your channel is you being a non-native speaker of English - I know the struggle, having started to study it seriously at 16, although I'm not nearly as proficient as you, but still, I firmly believe that any literature read in a L2 is perceived in a peculiar way. This is just to say that I find your videos deeply inspiring, especially when you are dealing with books you didn't like and the whole universe apparently did, and thanks to your channel I had the chance to read Matt Haig's novels (He is now my mom's favourite author: she even proposed to nickname our pet bunny Newton in honor of the dog on the cover of "The Humans". The bunny refuses his new name, though).
    Also, I admire your balance between RUclips and your private life: I'm sure that it can be very hard to run a successful channel without following the main trends, and since I'm in total denial of the modern fantasy- YA genre, which is basically a Harmony with a fantasy setting, it's so nice to listen to someone picking out the books because they are promising and not because they are sponsored or just hyped.

    Omgggggg yes! I totally get the forced diversity thing. Books that have nothing going for them except the diversity make me so angry because I can just fucking tell that it’s a marketing scheme and it was written because they wanna cash in on the movement. I can spot them a mile away and it pisses me off that everyone is always like “it’s was good because it was diverse” and I’m like “but what about the REST of the story?” Like I can just tell. As soon as ALL of the diversity is in the synopsis, the red flag goes up lol

    Really love your channel. I can't say that we have the exact same taste in books but I'm not looking for a clone for what I like. You opinions seem honest and you aren't afraid to say what you don't like and why. So good for you! One minor thing I'd love to see you and more booktubers do though is tell us whether the end of a book in a series is a cliffhanger. I don't want to have it spoiled, just a heads up so I'll know if I want to wait before I read.

    The bilingual thing is so relatable, I always feel so stupid when speaking english and trying to make an important statement or explanation -and I ramble a lot more than in French.
    I also feel for you about writing a book, I don't think I could have written one at the time, but since I've been speaking and reading in English a lot for the last years, writing feels even more impossible.

      Regarding aggressive feminism... In college I took a course on the Philosophy of Love and Sex. And yes, we literally sat around and debated issues of love and sex. Being an outspoken woman, I was labeled as a femnazi by one of my classmates (which was hilarious because he didn't seem to mind my opinions when it came to asking to borrow my notes or study together for the mid-terms/final exams). At the time, I didn't really understand what that meant. I thought I was only voicing a logical opinion for a member of my sex. However, now I understand that those comments often come from a place of not really understanding what feminism is/being threatened by women who speak their mind or *gasp* have opinions. The point is, congrats! If you're being labeled as an aggressive feminist, you're doing something right!

    The makeup thing is real. I tried to apply at a Sally that was "hiring" and they wouldn't even give me an application. Went into the store later on with a full face of makeup and the lady offered me a job. And yes, I turned it down! It just sucks that it'd make such a big difference..

    I'm so happy you posted this. I need the distraction. I had to give up my puppy today. I only had her a month but I was head over heels for her. Unfortunately she has health issues that we can't deal with because of my own health as you know (and we literally got her to try and raise my hopes) but I'm absolutely heartbroken beyond words right now. I don't know how to deal... 😭😭

    Hey Emily, I’m usually a quiet subscriber but I want to get this of my chest😊. I don‘t think you „sound stupid“ in english at all. In fact, I think you come across very well-read and intelligent. I love your videos and your personality so so much! You seem like such a raw and funny person, with whom I’d love to be friends with. Loved this q+a video so we got a little more of your personal side. Keep up your great work here on booktube as well as on your beauty channel (which I both love). Wishing you all the best in any- and every way possible! Lots of love from Switzerland😊❤️.

    80 bucks for library membership?!! *whistles* woah, that's a lot! We are really spoiled here in Ireland, it's been free for the past few years and before that it was only €5 a year. Membership in Ireland used to be limited to just the county region you lived it, it's now the entire Republic of Ireland so you can borrow books from all around the country. You can also rent CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and then there's Borrowbox app for ebooks and audiobooks, RB Digital for magazines and other apps for languages and newspapers and stuff. It's really the best! (though, lets be real, I'd prob pay for a membership as it stands, I couldn't do without the library!)

    Girl, I can't recommend you enough to listen to Peter Gundry's albums while reading or to just listen to. He's a composer and he has like '1 hour of witchy music' or '1 hour of fantasy music' and it's just so mesmerizing and enchanting.
